#SaturdaySpotlight is on Patricia Preston and Everything His Heart Desires

Good Morning!

It's warm, wet and muggy here...been that way the last couple of days. Cameron Fir and Wildlife Festival is going on this weeks as well as a Martina McBride concert so you may not see me online much. But please welcome Patricia Preston back with her new release, Everything His Heart Desires....

Everything His Heart Desires

Thank you, Pam, for spotlighting EVERYTHING HIS HEART DESIRES. It’s a mainstream romantic novel that reunites former high school adversaries. Brett was from the wrong side of town and determined to make a success of his life no matter what. A wealthy senator’s daughter, Natalie was considered the Cutest Girl in class and a total slacker, which annoyed Brett to no end, especially when he got stuck with her for a lab partner. Fifteen years later, Brett is a cardiologist and still driven to succeed. Natalie is a photographer grappling with her future, which will not include Brett, who is still totally Type A.

Blurb:
The man most likely to drive her crazy…
Growing up in Lafayette Falls, senator’s daughter Natalie Layton hid her sorrows behind a bright smile that charmed everyone in high school—except Brett Harris. Hardworking and highly motivated, Brett dismissed Natalie as a slacker. Instead, she’s become an acclaimed photographer. And when Brett, now a successful cardiologist, needs her family’s help to secure a coveted position, Natalie’s more than happy to prescribe a little payback…
Hailing from the wrong side of the tracks, Brett believed he could never win the school’s popular princess. Now he’s intrigued by the complex and compassionate woman Natalie’s become. Gaining her grandmother’s goodwill is the key to becoming chief cardiologist—and Natalie has no intention of making it easy. But as mutual mistrust gives way to pure chemistry, there’s more at stake than either ever expected—and much more to learn about matters of the heart…

Here’s an excerpt from Chapter 1

Talk about the opportunity of a lifetime. If he could become Anna Layton’s physician, he would literally have it made. He would have Harry and Sheldon’s support and gratitude, which meant he could create a superior cardiology program at LFMC. Perhaps, someday, there would be a heart center named after him and he would be remembered for all posterity. Yes, he was definitely Type A.
“Do you want to speak with your mother and then give me call?” he asked Harry.
“Well, we have a little something different in mind.” Both Harry and Sheldon looked at Natalie as if it were her turn to speak up.
She tapped her fingers on the table. “I’m home for a few weeks, and I’m staying with my grandmother.” She managed to choke out the rest, “You can come over as my dinner guest tomorrow night.”
It took him a moment to process that. “Okay. So I’m not coming over as a doctor. I’m coming over as your date?”
“A date is kinda stretching it,” she said as if to say that was never gonna happen. “An old friend from high school.”
“Friend,” he repeated, meeting her gaze. “Seriously?”
“It was Uncle Harry and Aunt Lorraine’s idea.” She was quick to clarify, and she frowned at her uncle, who had a mouthful of cheese Danish. “And it’s not a good idea. It’s not going to work. Not with Nana.”
“Natalie, you promised us you’d help out.” Harry took a swig of coffee. “We’re counting on you.”
She shook her head, and Brett realized she was totally against the idea, which might cost him the chief of cardiology position.
He sat up straight. “Natalie, you do understand what’s at stake here?”
“Besides your ego?” She didn’t blink as she looked him straight in the eye. It appeared that, since high school, she had developed a Terminator stare.
He didn’t flinch. “Do you want me to help your grandmother or not?”
Her phone lit up, and she checked a text message. She stuck her phone back in her purse and withdrew a small notepad. She scribbled on it, then tore off the paper and folded it. “I’ve got to meet someone,” she announced.
She hitched her purse strap on her shoulder, and she leaned across the table to hand Brett the folded paper. “Here’s my cell number. If something comes up and you can’t make it tomorrow night, call me. Otherwise, dinner is at seven. Sports jacket. No tie. Be at Nana’s house, which is the Castle House on Rosewood, by six forty-five.”
“I’ll be there.” He tucked the paper into the pocket of his jacket.
In a low, vindictive voice, she said, “Isn’t it amazing to think that I’m the key to your success?” She glanced at Sheldon and Harry before she delivered a parting blow. “Nana is a piranha, Brett. She’ll eat you alive and not even burp.”

#TuesdayTreasures Guest post by Patricia Preston

Good Morning!

It's been a crazy couple of days so I'm going to just welcome you and let Patricia take the blog....

One thing I think we should all treasure is hope. The hope that your life will be better and/or your dreams will come true is what keeps us going. Hope can get you up in the morning and push you forward. Yet, sometimes, it is hard to hang onto hope. I have had it slip away many times and I think those are the most empty times, when you don’t feel hopeful about your future.

I was lucky enough to have some good friends, whom I treasure, that were supportive and encouraging. The main thing you have to do is get up and do something productive. I think goals inspire hope. Hope comes along with wanting to see something accomplished. So if your hope is lagging, imagine yourself doing something and succeeding. Hope will latch onto that.

I wish you much hope, inspiration and joy in the new year!

Thanks for stopping by Pam’s blog today. I write mainstream romantic novels as well as historicals and humor. Must haves in my writing cave include sweet tea, epic music and plenty of notebooks. Besides writing, I love music, history, the French Quarter, photography, reading and anything containing chocolate. I’m a fangirl of Supernatural and Walking Dead. I don’t do much with my life other than write.

I think good books make great friends! I hope some of my characters will become your friends. Here’s the recipe for my romance: Take one captivating couple, mix with adversity and angst, sprinkle with humor and add passion! If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, indulge in my contemporary series, Love Heals All. The series is set in a fictional Tennessee town, Lafayette Falls, south of Nashville where romance causes havoc, heartache, and humor for a cast of unsuspecting doctors until they realize love heals all.

Today is release day for my new book, an enemies-to-lovers plot involving high school adversaries who are reunited fifteen years later….

#SaturdaySpotlight Fall #RomanticTravel with Patricia Preston

Good Morning from Hattiesburg, MS!

Well my vacation to South & North Carolina is coming to an end. Left Cherokee, NC yesterday and will arrive back home in Louisiana this afternoon.

Today's guest is not a complete stranger to our blog. Patricia shared some treasures with us in June but returns to share some Fall Romantic Travels!

                  #RomanticTravel Fall Beauty along #NatchezTrace #GiftCardGiveaway

I love autumn and the Natchez Trace in Tennessee has provided me with plenty of inspiration for the fictional setting, Lafayette Falls, that I’m using in my contemporary romances for Lyrical Shine. The drive is leisurely and stunning along the Trace in the fall. This is a national parkway so there are no stores, gas stations, power lines or commercial traffic on the Trace. It is steeped in history along with pastoral beauty. Great for photographers.

So if you want to get out on a pretty fall day for a drive and a picnic, check out these places.

Rock Creek. You can skip across the creek on square rocks. Fall Hollow is a lovely waterfall. I used it as a model for the waterfall in my book. It is an easy walk from the roadside. Jackson Fall is a larger waterfall and a longer hike from the road. There is also a portion of the original Trace that you can hike. This is the path Jackson’s army took on the way home from the Battle of New Orleans. One of my favorite overlooks is Baker’s Bluff which features a working 19-century farm. To learn more about all the sightseeing stops along the Trace, go to https://www.nps.gov/natr/index.htm

New Release! One Week in Your Arms

My newest book, ONE WEEK IN YOUR ARMS, is mainstream contemporary romance filled with witty, charismatic characters. The fun, fast-paced plot features a secret baby, a billionaire baby daddy hero who needs a pretend girlfriend for a week, and a young doctor who is desperate to keep her child a secret. Unfortunately for the intrepid heroine, Marla, she needs money for her community clinic so she has no choice but to spend a week in paradise with the one man who can destroy her life. How can she say no? (Personally, I couldn’t say no. Could you?)

Blurb
IT STARTED WITH A FLING...

Six years ago, Dr. Marla Grant gave into temptation with a gorgeous man. Now the medical director of Lafayette Falls Community Clinic and a single mom to a little girl, Marla finds herself in a dilemma when the funding for the community clinic is threatened by none other than the powerful man of her long-ago fling and unsuspecting father of her child...

Carson Blackwell has never forgotten bright, beautiful Marla. When he discovers that she works at the clinic his grandmother's foundation sponsors, it's the perfect opportunity to end to his ongoing infatuation and use his leverage to cement a new business deal. He needs a fake girlfriend for one week in Hawaii, and Marla is just the woman for the job. It's a win-win situation, until they realize the attraction between them isn't feigned, and the heat has never died down. Only the secrets they're both keeping stand in the way of a future together and a love that could last a lifetime.

Excerpt from One Week in Your Arms

She picked up the letter opener. Her heart palpitated in sheer terror as she slid the opener under the flap of the envelope. With the envelope open, she peeped inside to see one folded sheet of stationery.
After six years, what could he possibly have to say?
She pictured him, standing beside a black truck in the drive of Royal Oaks, an old estate belonging to his grandmother. She recalled the date. June twenty-eighth. The day they had said goodbye had been a warm, blustery day in Tennessee. A summer storm was heading toward the rolling hills near Nashville.
The wind made a mess of Carson’s unruly dark hair. His dark blue eyes were hidden by a pair of mirrored lens aviators, and his alpha-male physique tested the seams of his polo shirt.
“If I’m ever back in town, I’ll look you up,” he promised as their casual affair came to an inevitable end. For three weeks, they had been together and finally, the time had come for them to go their separate ways. She hadn’t realized it would be so difficult.
“Sure.” She forced a smile of goodwill. After all, they weren’t parting in anger, or in love for that matter. And it was unlikely that she would ever see him again.
“I had a great time,” she confessed boldly. She’d loved every minute of their brief, steamy affair. Talk about a summer break to remember. She grinned.
He gave her cheek a stroke. “You’ll make a great doctor.”
“You think so?”
“Yeah.” He grinned. “You certainly know all there is to know about male anatomy.”
“Yours, at least.” She laughed. Then she hopped up on her toes and gave him a quick kiss. “Goodbye, Carson Blackwell.”
She stepped away from him. Now was the time to face what was ahead. A grueling three-year residency. There would be no more time for long summer nights, tangled sheets, and sighs against swollen lips. She walked toward her small, sturdy hatchback. Before she opened the driver’s door, she looked up and met his gaze.
“Goodbye,” he called.
             At that moment, she’d had an odd sensation in her chest that her life was never going to be the same.

#TuesdayTreasure: Guest Post by Patricia Preston

Good Morning from sunny Panama City Beach, Florida!

We are here for my granddaughter's Platinum Dance National Competition. She won Gold in Solo yesterday and had Duet tomorrow then Team on Thursday.

Patricia Preston visited with us a little over a year ago, but today, she speaks of treasuring those long, summer days....

I truly treasure long summer days. I am day person and I love that we have longer days in the summer. It seems like I have more time in the summer, although I know I don’t. But I get much more done in the summer, especially when it doesn’t get dark until eight. I treasure going outside just before dark while it is warm and watching the lightning bugs in the woods behind my house.

Plus I love wearing shorts and sandals. I also treat myself to ice cream in summer. Besides shorts, sandals, and ice cream, I also usually have a yard sale. Over the years, I have had several yard sales. Most of the the time, the sales involved me and some friends or relatives who got together to have one. Despite the work involved, I always had a lot of fun when I had one and they inspired me to write a short funny story about a yard sale. Some of the things that happened in the story and some of the characters are actually based on the yard sales that I had and the people who showed up. If you’ve ever had a yard sale, I’m sure you’ll be familiar with the Early Birds, Tightwads, and Packrats featured in the short story.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks Patricia! I believe most of us agree long, summer days are certainly something to treasure. I know I MUCH prefer summer to winter!
#TuesdayTreasure: Guest Post by Patricia Preston
Good Morning Friends,
It is once again my pleasure to introduce you to another new author friend, Patricia Preston....
When I decided to write this post about something I treasured, I thought of different things. Material things. Then I thought of looking beyond stuff I had to something else.
I think one thing I really treasure, at this point, is the ability to get my stories out to readers via e-books and writing full-time.
To me, that is a huge treasure for me from an artistic standpoint. I had to sacrifice a lot to have the privilege of writing full-time and I still have a lot of other responsibilities that take up my time, but I have to say I have treasured the past year so much.
I equally treasure all the new opportunities for writers now. There were short stories I wanted to write, but there was no print market for them. That was also true for a series of historical romances set in New Orleans that I wanted to write. Being able to sit down and write these stories and knowing that I would have the opportunity to reach readers has been so exciting. Not so much from a financial standpoint, but from the standpoint of a born storyteller. I’ve been writing stories since I was a child.
I only wish this opportunity could have come along years ago, but it is here now and I just published another one of my quirky Southern short stories, “Decoration Day.” It’s a humorous and poignant story about Decoration Day at Cypress Creek Church cemetery where a feud erupts over a gardenia wreath and a statue of Jesus. And Melanie Sue Haddock learns that being a heathen and a true friend is better than being flawless. Note: This story does have a little bit of an inspirational tone that came natural to the storyline, but I’m not an inspirational writer.
I have a couple of other short stories in the works, but now I have more to write than I have time to get written! And I do treasure that!
Patricia Preston is a Southern author who writes historical and contemporary romance as well as humorous Southern fiction. Her publishers include New Love Stories, True Romance, Affaire de Coeur, Cloverdale Press, The Blue and Gray Magazine, Sea Oats Review, and Carina Press. She won William Faulkner Award for Short Fiction, the Lone Star Writing Competition for Historical Romance, and Harlequin’s World’s Best Romances Short Story Competition.
Her current titles include two historical romances: To Save a Lady. Almost an Outlaw.
Contemporary Romance Short Story: “Delivering Love Today.”
Under the name, Patricia Ann Preston, she writes humorous Southern stories with happy endings. “Decoration Day” “The Yard Sale” “Laid to Rest”
