#SaturdaySpotlight is on Karilyn Bentley @KarenBentley1 and DEMON KISSED

Good Morning Friends!

I am happy to introduce to you my guest today, Karilyn Bently with her brand new book, Demon Kissed.

Published by The Wild Rose Press, Karilyn is new to me so I'm excited to bring her to your attention too.....

Karilyn Bentley's love of reading stories and preference of sitting in front of a computer at home instead of in a cube, drove her to pen her own works, blending fantasy and romance mixed with a touch of funny.

Her paranormal romance novella, Werewolves in London, placed in the Got Wolf contest and started her writing career as an author of sexy heroes and lush fantasy worlds.

Karilyn lives in North Texas with her own hunky hero, a crazy dog nicknamed The Kraken, and a handful of colorful saltwater fish.

Gin Crawford, the world's latest demon huntress, has no time to mourn her dead lover as she's called in to determine why a demon attack occurred at the local medical school. And not just any demon, but the one demon that gives her demon-killing bracelet the shivers. A dead professor, a lab full of missing anthrax, and a demon who turns good people into minions complicate her life. Can Gin and her mentor Aidan Smythe solve the mystery of the missing anthrax and the identity of the demon before someone else dies?

The scent of sulfur hangs in the air like a demonic stink bomb. I want to slap a hand over my nose, but no one else seems affected by the stench. Must be a demon huntress thing.
“Justitian,” Smythe mutters. “Not demon huntress.”
“If you don’t like my new title, then stay out of my mind.”
He glares. I swallow. Cross my arms. Refuse to take a step back. I’m learning not to be intimidated by his anger. Go me.
My justitia vibrates, throwing me out of my internal battle, pulling me back to the land of death and minions. The blob of colors pulsates, a glowing reminder of a moment of terror. The moment the demon appeared to the grad student.
Granted, I’m still taking Demons 101, but I thought demons formed minions in private.  Usually after the human committed a crime, not before. A tryout, so to speak. And maybe that happened, but it sure seems to me like the black blob of demon force appeared to the grad student smack in the middle of the hallway.
Or maybe that always happens, and I just now noticed it.
The justitia’s vibration grows stronger, trembling my arm, my veins. Not its normal excited tremor upon seeing a minion or demon. A rush of images spikes through my mind, scenes of terror coupled with blood and death, memories of the justitia’s former wearers captured in time by the entity in the bracelet.
I’m not the only one freaked out by the colored blob. How bad was this demon to scare a justitia?

Wow, if you like Paranormal Romance, Demon Kissed sounds like a perfect book for you! Get your copy today at Amazon, B&N, TWRP or iBooks.

I hope you enjoyed today's spotlight! Check back weekly for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlights.

#ThursdayThoughts: Guest Post by @kmdaughters!

Good Morning Friends,

It is with great pleasure I bring back to our blog, KM Daughters who are sharing some very special thoughts with us....

As little girls we idolized our dad. He worked three jobs for much of his career to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. We didn’t have much in economic terms, but looking back on our childhood we agree that we had everything we needed and that we were rich in the love our parents lavished on us.

We couldn’t afford a car, so taking walks together as a family was major entertainment. Those frequent expeditions on foot taught us to appreciate togetherness and inspired our love of nature.
Another childhood joy inspired us – listening to the children’s stories Daddy wrote for us.

He carried a steno book everywhere with him and whenever he had a few minutes downtime, whether waiting for a bus or a break from one of his jobs, he wrote. His stories set our imaginations soaring.

Many years later we continue the tradition of walking and talking. On one of our sister walks, K.M. Daughters created the storyline for our first book, Reunion for the First Time (Coming in 2016 from The Wild Rose Press). Every book since has started the same way – walking together on Prairie Paths, along a sandy beach, uphill on mountain paths or suburban sidewalks like the days we strolled hand in hand with our father.

We can’t help feeling that Daddy is still with us on those walks inspiring his daughters to weave tales of their own.

Visit K.M. Daughters at http://www.kmdaughters.com

K.M. Daughters is the penname for team writers and sisters, Pat Casiello and Kathie Clare nee Lynch. The author name is dedicated to the memory of their parents, Katherine and Michael, the "K" and "M" in K.M. Daughters. Inspired by their father who wrote children's books for them when they were small and their mother's love of romance novels, K.M. Daughters was "born" in 2005 at a Romance Writers of America national conference when the sisters plotted their first manuscript.

K.M. Daughters has published twelve award-winning novels garnering rave reviews. RT Book Reviews magazine awarded a 4-star, "Compelling, Page Turner..." rating to BEYOND THE CODE OF CONDUCT, CAPTURING KARMA and ALL'S FAIR IN LOVE AND LAW.

RT Book Reviews awarded ROSE OF THE ADRIATIC 4 1/2 stars! "Fantastic...", and the final installment in the Sullivan Boys Romantic Suspense Series: IN THE ST. NICK OF TIME, rated 4 1/2 stars by RT Book Reviews - "FANTASTIC, A KEEPER".

THE SNOWS, an Amazon Kindle Select book is the author's first women's fiction novel with inspirational elements.

FILL THE STADIUM, mainstream women's fiction, is K.M. Daughters' newest release and is available on Amazon inPaperback and for KindleBarnes and Noble and at All Romance Ebooks!

I've read Fill the Stadium and you can find my review at Amazon.

#TuesdayTreasure: Guest post by Linda Nightingale & a #giveaway!

Good Morning Friends,

It is with great pleasure I introduce to you Lind Nightingale who shares with us some interesting information about one of my favorite animals...horses!

For years I loved the Arabian horse and bred the Egyptian Arabian.  They are refined and lovely, but then I met the Andalusian horse at a show in Atlanta.  I also met a long-time friend, Irene Benjamin, who helped me along with my passion for becoming a great rider (I don’t think I ever achieved this goal, but I had another partner—my Andalusian stallion Bonito).   I sold all my Arabians and bought this young stallion imported from Costa Rica.  He was simply gorgeous with the most beautiful eyes and wonderful personality, even if occasionally spiced with mischief.  He had quite a sense of humor! We had a bumpy journey sometimes because he was trained to a higher level than I was, but I wouldn’t trade a moment.

In fact, he was such a friend that when I was getting a divorce and was confused and sad, I’d go to the stables into his stall, and he’d hug me with his big arched neck while I cried.

We did a musical freestyle to Phantom of the Opera.  The ride began with a complete side pass across the arena.  We performed a bit of piaffe (trot in place) and a canter pirouette (canter in place).  He was not your ordinary horse, but then no Andalusian is ordinary.  I have a poster in my guest bath that says “This horse will change your life.”  It is absolutely the truth.

Allow me to tell you a little about this extraordinary breed.  They are the bullfighting horses of Spain—either quick or dead.

The Andalusian is an ancient pure breed that has been carefully preserved over the centuries.  In Northern Spain, cave paintings depict men leading Mesolitic horses with convex heads, solid muscular bodies, elegant necks and luxurious manes.  Circa 1,100 B.C., Homer refers to the Iberian horse in his Iliad.  The Iberian horse carried Hannibal across the Alps in his invasion of Italy (though the elephants got all the credit!).  History records Richard I and many of his knights mounted on "airy Spanish Destriers".

In the heyday of European monarchies, the Andalusian's flair, style and formidable carriage made him the mount of choice for the aristocracy.  Not only did the Spanish horse excel in battle but he was a fancy parade horse and an elegant fine harness animal.   This popularity earned the Iberian horse a grandiose title, "Horse of Kings" or "Royal Horse of Europe."   Indeed, there was a time when no crowned head would consider having a portrait painted on any horse other than an Andalusian.

Wow Linda, Bonito definitely sounds like a treasure!

About Linda....
Born in South Carolina, Linda Nightingale has lived in England, Canada, Miami, Atlanta and Houston.  She’s seen a lot of this country from the windshield of a truck pulling a horse trailer, having bred, trained and showed Andalusian horses for thirteen years.

Linda has won several writing awards, including the Georgia Romance Writers Magnolia Award.   As well as an author, she is a legal assistant and a mother of two incredible sons, one in England; the other a graphic artist in Houston.  She is a member of the Houston Symphony League and enjoys events with her car club.  Two of her favorite things are her snazzy black convertible and her parlor grand piano.

She is the author of three novels published by Double Dragon Publishing, a Canadian publisher. Gemini Rising, winner of the Preditors’ and Editors 2013 Poll in Mainstream, is a controversial dark fantasy, getting good reviews.  Sinners’ Opera and Cardinal Desires are paranormal romances starring sexy vampires.  The following is a snippet of a review for Sinners’ Opera:  “Morgan and Isabeau are characters that could be placed in the same category as some of the most famous couples in romance history - Romeo and his Juliet, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy - and their romance plays out like one of Beethoven's famous love letters.”

Visit her web site at http://www.lindanightingale.com (site designed by Simon Nightingale) for a continuing vampire story.  Catch her on Twitter at @LNightingale.  She is on Facebook, or visit her blog http://lindanightingale.wordpress.com/

Under the pen name Bianca Swan, she writes erotic romance.  The Wild Rose Press published two novellas. Double Dragon Publishing released one Bianca novel.

Linda's latest novel, Gambler's Choice is available now from Amazon in paperback and for Kindle.

Linda is giving away an Ebook (winner's choice) of her back list to one lucky person~leave a comment for your chance to win!

Hope you enjoyed today's treasure. Check back weekly for Thursday Thoughts, Saturday Spotlights and of course, more Tuesday Treasures.

Until next time...take care and God bless!

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Mark Wayne Allen!

Good Morning Friends,

I'm not much of a Winter person so you can imagine my joy at the beautiful weather we're having! Cool nights, warm, sunny days....It's more like spring here in SW Louisiana. I hope you're as blessed.

Last month you met fellow Bayou Writers Group author, Mark Wayne Allen. Well Mark is back for Saturday Spotlight today so here he is with a few words about his life and book, 3 Lifetimes in 1....

Viewing The World

Through years of considering different aspects of my life and a keen desire to write about it, I finally wrote "3 Lifetimes In 1". The  physical as well as emotional things I've experienced have been all too consuming at times, thus writing my story was eventful, to say the least.

But, although traumatic by its own standard, the book is written now and available for all to read. It starts at my childhood and goes on through the wreck that my brother and I had. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder was my life after that. It's an unusual thing that was painful to recall, but getting through it was necessary in order to understand how my life has unfolded through those years and far beyond.

Our memories make us who we are and, to that end, I suppose that the sum total of "what is me" is the active kid that I started out to be, marred by pain from horrible tragedies. Over those long years of two lives ending and having to start over again from nothing (and I guarantee that 99% of you don't realize what "nothing" really is), it's given perspective. I see a lot of beauty in the world and know that we all must adapt to change and hold on by faith, not by might.

Mark Wayne Allen was born in Merryvillle, Louisiana where he now resides, but has lived in many states. Due to life tragedies, he is a quadriplegic.
A love of books inspired him to write down his own stories, which, over the years, has evolved to include all categories. From poetry to short stories to novels, his knowledge of the craft grew over time, and so did his love for it.
He wrote two short stories and several poems that were published in a short-lived e-zine called Dementia. In 2013, he published the science fiction book Star Siege which was written during his years at Louisiana State University. Since then, he has placed in several contests since and even had a first place poem. He writes regularly for The Voice Of Southwest Louisiana Magazine.
Having lived in the North, South, East, and West has given him the opportunity to talk with a diverse group of people as well as an appreciation for different cultures. Currently, he lives with his wife of many years, Kelley, and is an active part of the community. You can keep up with Mark through his Website,Facebook and Twitter.
Mark's brand new book, 3 Lifetimes in 1 is available through Amazon in Paperback and on Kindle!
Hope you enjoyed today's spotlight. See you next week for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and another Saturday Spotlight.
Until then....take care and God Bless.

#ThursdayThoughts: Special Guest Post by Kryssie Fortune

Good Morning Friends,

Kryssie Fortune returns today to share with us some thoughts that are mighty powerful and encouraging for sure! So without much further ado, I'll turn the blog over to her.....

2001 – A heart Odyssey

Way back in 2001 my heart valve collapsed unexpectedly and my life hung by a thread. The doctors said I wouldn’t survive the operation to fix it and kept me on bed rest for six weeks before they operated on me.

Open-heart surgery isn’t pleasant, but I survived. Since a wonderful surgeon gave me a second chance, I didn’t intend to waste it.

I was back at work within three months, but my colleagues were very protective. Now, 15 years later, I feel like I’ve crammed a lifetime into 15 years. I’ve visited ancient Celtic sites in the Orkney Islands, including the Tomb of Eagles where you lay on your back on oversized skateboard and pull yourself along a rope into the rock. A few meters inside it opens out into a huge chamber. Human bones were found inside, along with the bones of 14 white-tailed sea eagles.

Not content with that, I’ve explored ancient Greece and even run the length of the track where ancient athletes competed. My husband took me to Italy next Pompeii fascinated me, but not as much as Herculaneum. Our guide knew the team excavating fresh areas and we got the behind-the-scenes tour.

Travel’s great, but there was still one dream that stayed out of reach. I wanted to write a romance novel. My husband enrolled me on a writer’s course, but that was only the start. Hard work and perseverance paid off, and Loose ID published my sixth book, To Seduce an Omega, in January. It’s a stand-alone romance but it forms part of my Scattered Sibling’s series.

Throughout the last 15 years, I’ve thought about my heart operation a lot. It changed the course of my life. And I’m loving it. Sometimes, I think I’m the luckiest woman alive.

Wow Kryssie, sounds like you ARE one blessed lady!

Don't forget folks, Kryssie writes hot and steamy, erotic paranormal romance and her latest release, To Seduce an Omega is available now and can be purchased from the following places:

Now a little more about Kryssie in her own words....

I’m a dreamer, drawn to drop-dead gorgeous Fae, sensual vampires, and Lykae with a dominant streak so wide you can play football on it. It took a while before I dare put my dream down on paper, but now I love to share them with my readers.

I’m a grandmother on the cusp or retiring to live by the sea. I can’t wait to enjoy romantic walks hand-in hand with my husband on the beach.

You can find/connect with me on Facebook and Twitter @kryssiefortune

Also, you can read the first chapter of any of her books by visiting her website or download an exclusive story "My Future Step Brother" and join her special friend's list. All on her website www.tinagayle.net

As autumn comes to the Winston estate in Ohio, Amber Harrison learns further lessons in her new position as keeper for the spirits and ghosts who haunt the estate--and further lessons in love, too. She and her love, Carter Miller, grapple with the fears and passions of new love, while caught up in the storm of ancient family drama.

This is the second book in the unfolding saga of the psychics and talents associated with the Winston estate, a sheltered place where past, present, and future are woven into a single dramatic tapestry of love and desire. The tale spans multiple generations, multiple eras, and offers something special for all ages of reader. A sexy, erotic winner, with an assortment of couples to appeal to most tastes.

“How long before you install the new cabinets?”

He turned on the ladder. His dark brown eyes captured her, engulfing her in an encompassing warmth. She melted under his heated gaze, which ran from the top of her head to the white socks on her feet. He lifted a brow at her attire, but he didn’t comment on her pink sweat suit.

“With the old cabinets out of the way, I need to knock down this wall and tear up the flooring. The electrical work is next on the agenda.” He climbed off the ladder, yanked off his gloves, and slid a hand through his thick, wavy hair.

“It might be awhile before we install the new cabinets. Right now, we’re simply working to remove the old stuff so we can start fresh.” He smiled, which didn’t hide the dark circles under his eyes or the fatigue in the slump of his shoulders.

“There’s no hurry. If you’re busy with something else, this can wait until your Dad and Mattie come home next week.”

“No, Dad doesn’t want her dealing with this mess.” Carter unbuckled his tool belt and placed it on a workbench. “I promised him I’d have it done.”

“Is Grant helping?” Amber stepped around several pieces of sheetrock and stray bits of wood, to the bottom of the stairs.

He walked to the backdoor. “Friday, his classes are over at noon.”

With his hand resting on the doorknob, he appeared anxious to leave. “I’m headed to lunch, and then I need to drop by the office for a while. Are you sure you’re okay here by yourself?”

Amber toyed with the idea of saying no. She missed the taste of his lips and the strength of his arms, but she nodded instead. “Yes, I’m fine.”

After opening the door, he paused. “I guess I’ll see you later.”

She waved and turned to head to her room, satisfied she’d at least gotten him to talk. Her leaden feet trudged up the steps. Unexcited, she contemplated her latest assignment from the family council. How could she achieve such an impossible task of convincing her great grandmother’s ghost to cross over?

Now let's hear a little bit from, Amber from Fallen Leaves....

What is your current job or position, Amber? I'm the new keeper of the Winston Manor
What is your favorite food? chocolate chip cookies
What is your most important goal? to save my grandmother’s spirit
What is your birth date and place? April 17, Irving, CA
And do you still live in Irving? If not, where? No, I moved away and am now living in Hebron, Ohio

Wow...thanks Amber!

#SaturdaySpotlight is on @HopeTDougherty and her book, Irish Encounter

Good Morning Friends!

Before I introduce you to Hope and her book, I'd like to tell you about a movie that releases Friday April 1st.... God's Not Dead 2! Grace Hill Media sent me this info and a link to a special  featurette of the move which you can see HERE. I'll be posting more on God's Not Dead 2 in April but wanted you to get this sneak peek.

Now on to our Saturday Spotlight guest, Hope T Dougherty!

Hope Toler Dougherty holds a Master's degree in English and taught at East Carolina University as well as York Technical College. A member of ACFW, RWA and SinC, she writes for Almost an Author. Before writing novels, she published non-fiction articles on topics ranging from gardening with children to writing apprehension. She cheers for the Pittsburgh Steelers, ACC basketball, and Army West Point Football. Hope and her husband, Kevin, live in North Carolina and chat with their two daughters and twin sons through ooVoo. Irish Encounter is her first novel. Her second one, Mars...With Venus Rising, is published with Pelican Book.

Find out more about Hope by visiting her Website or connecting with her on Good Reads, Twitter, Facebook and/or Pinterest.

Now on to Hope's book, Irish Encounter....

After almost three years of living under a fog of grief, Ellen Shepherd is ready for the next chapter in her ife, perhaps an adventure during a visit to Galway. Her idea of excitement consists of exploring Ireland for yarn to feature in her shop back home, but the adventure awaiting her includes an edgy stranger who disrupts her tea time, challenges her belief system, and stirs up feelings she thought she'd buried with her husband.

After years of ignoring God, nursing anger, and stifling his grief, Payne Anderson isn't ready for the feelings a chance encounter with an enchanting stranger evokes. Though avoiding women and small talk has been his pattern, something about Ellen makes him want to seek her--and God again.

Can Ellen accept a new life different than the one she planned? Can Payne release his guilt and accept the peace he's longed for? Can they surrender their past pain and embrace healing together or will fear and doubt ruin this second chance at happiness?

Payne and Ellen lingered over their food. He explained he was working in Africa and admitted he’d just arrived in Ireland when they met. “I’d been traveling for about two days with hardly any sleep, but it’s better to stay awake a while before crashing. I adjust to a new time zone faster…with less jet lag, too.”

“So those were safari clothes you wore yesterday, and you tried to stay awake by picking a fight with a stranger in a caf√©.” She smiled at him as though she’d just given the correct answer in a board game.

He shook his head. “Huh uh. I stayed awake by talking with a beautiful woman.” He leaned his forearms against the table.

She blinked twice. Was he flirting with her? She wasn’t sure. A warm tingle rose from the bottom of her stomach, grabbing the breath from her lungs and stealing her smile. She searched for something to say. “Ah. Now I find out you’re a flatterer, too.”

“Wrong. I don’t flatter. I say what I mean. Always.”

Wow, sounds intriguing!

Hope is giving away 1 E-copy of Irish Encounter, so leave a comment and include your email address!

However, if you don't want to wait to see if you win, you can purchase Irish Encounter at Amazon in print and for Kindle.

Well friends I certainly hope you enjoyed today's spotlight. Hope will be back in April with her PBG title, Mars with Venus Rising so be sure and visit weekly for more Saturday Spotlights, Tuesday Treasures and Thursday Thoughts!

Until next time...take care and God Bless.

#ThursdayThoughts: #EggcerptExchange with Tracey Clark

Good Afternoon!

Yeah I'm late posting today but I won't bore you with the details why....I'll just get on into my Eggcerpt Exchange with author Tracey Clark and her book Shocking Finds....

An act of rebellion, Marin doesn't think that running into the new store in town will hurt anything. Her aunt will never know... right? One car wreck later, her aunt is hospitalized, Marin is forced to spend her twenty-first birthday fighting for her life, and magic - the very thing her aunt has always sworn to be for fools - is real. And so is the irresistible Fae dedicated to Marin's protection.

Kyland has searched Earth-side and all the other realms, looking for a missing Fae child. A child his Queen prophesied would be able to one day save the Fae people from the Danshue, as the evil Fae threat tries to overwhelm the entire Supernatural Community. A child that would know nothing of her blocked gifts, or her Fae heritage waiting to be claimed. A child that has grown into a curvy, delicious morsel he would love to taste

Together Marin and Kyland will fight Fae assassins, overcome betrayals, and if they're lucky ... they will find the Danshue responsible for their plight. That's if Marin doesn't shock him to death with her erratic new gift, and her out of control emotions.

Marin needed answers. Like why had they been targeted? The parking lot hadn’t exactly been lacking for vehicular violence victim contenders. There had been a group of at least four women, standing by their cars, chatting. If there was a target more deserving of vehicular rage, it had definitely been that group of women. They had finished shopping, and courtesy demanded that their parking spots were to be relinquished as soon as possible. Why not them?

The man—and Marin was only guessing that the driver was a man—had bypassed those without parking lot etiquette and zeroed in on Lindal. If she had continued her slow progress through the parking lot, would Marin be in this horrible room with its beeping monitors and bleached air instead of Lindal.

Staring down at her aunt’s unmoving form, Marin tried to find a place to rest her hand. She needed to touch her. She needed to know that the only person willing to take her in, after the death of her mother, was really here and still alive.

“They will find him, Lindal. He won't get away with this,” Marin made her vow as quietly as possible, not wanting to disturb Lindal's recovery.

Glancing up to keep tears from falling from her eyes, Marin noticed something swinging off of Lindal's oxygen line. “What the...” It looked like a Barbie doll with wings, perhaps six inches tall. The odd little creature wore a loin cloth and sported some overly obvious male attributes. Was it wrong to be checking out the abs of someone no larger than a child’s toy?

His arms tugged and his muscles bunched as he attempted to make a knot in Lindal's oxygen line. His silver skin tone went beautifully with his tri-colored wings— a mix of light purple, maroon, and gold. The little man didn't seem to realize that Marin was staring at him.

“Stop,” Marin shouted. Dammit, this was a hospital. She needed to lower her voice. She also needed to go upstairs to the psych ward. Head trauma, shock, or hallucinations...something wasn’t right. If she told Lindal about this, her aunt would call her every kind of fool.

Hallucination or not, she grabbed the little man by the wings, pulled him from Lindal’s oxygen line, and tried to speak more calmly. “What do you think you’re doing?”

She finally had her figment’s attention. A striking, though small, pair of lavender eyes glared at her through overly long sandy brown bangs. On closer inspection, she could see that his hair was actually multicolored. It seemed to go from crystal white sand to bronzed gold.

“Well, answer me. What do you think you're doing?”

“Waiting for you, of course.”

“What are you?” She was losing it. The buzzing in her temples was increasing. And she was now speaking to a figment of her imagination. Yep, she needed to be medicated.

The creature put its tiny fists on narrow hips. “A Sprite, of course. Don't you know anything? I have my work cut out for me.” Now she was being insulted by her imagination. Great.

“Nope. Too Much,” Marin said and tossed the little man with wings out of the hospital window. She needed coffee. Either that or a large dose of Thorazine. Maybe both.

Get your copy of Shocking Finds at Amazon, B&N, Kobo, Indigo, or Smashwords.

Now a little about Tracey...

I am a country-twang gal from the bluegrass state. Kentucky is a hot bed of horses, cave systems, and whiskey. And I love all three. With my pugs and bossy kitty cat, I spend my days writing and working social media. I write with the help of the voices pushing me to create worlds for them to live in. Fantasy Romance, Contemporary Romance, and eventually some cowboys (because cowboys live in a group all their own, yummmm)… These are the genres that I love best. Oil paints, crafts, dealing with Multiple Sclerosis, and writing into the dead of night… this I my life!!!

Find out more about Tracey and her work by visiting her Website, BlogGoodReads Author Page, and/or connecting with her on Facebook, and Twitter!

#TuesdayTreasure: Special Guest Post by Marilyn Leach

Good Morning!

Today is Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday for those who aren't sure what it means) which always ushers in the Lenten season. Today's guest, Marilyn Leach tells us why she treasures Lent...

Thanks, Pam, for having me on your Tuesday Treasure blog, especially this very special Tuesday.  Why is February 9, 2016 so special?  Many people are very aware, others have no notion.

Today, depending on what part of the world you’re in, is Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras Finale, or the last day of Carnival, or Pancake Tuesday.  And it’s followed by Ash Wednesday which signals the start of the liturgical season of Lent.  It is forty days of preparation in the run up to the celebration of Christendom’s grand Easter Sunday.

I’ve heard Lent, for the sake of illustration, described as our 40,000 mile spiritual tune up, much like our motor vehicle.  It’s an inspection of the engine, parts, and electrics to make sure everything is ship shape in Bristol fashion.  The vehicle can operate at its peak performance when tuned up.  So, what does that mean practically in our spiritual lives?

Lent is a time to do some spiritual inventory, to make sure “our engine is running smoothly.”

That’s not to say we don’t invest in daily maintenance.  Just as we gas up, wash the windshield, and buckle up, so too we have daily time to feed our spirit, keep our hearts clean, and seek God’s protective care.

My observance of the Lenten season has taken different forms at various times.  I’ve read a special book that dealt with an issue I was facing, a few pages daily, for all four weeks until it was completed.  One year I spent all four Saturday mornings to pray and read Scripture away from home in a quiet place.  It was a difficult challenge, and one of the most rewarding as well.  Memorizing Bible passages about Christian living birthed new fruitful actions.  I’ve also done more traditional observances.  I gave up drinking colas, which were affecting my energy highs and lows.  Forty days of no cola was replaced with flavored seltzer, fruit slices added, which I found refreshing.  It has become my favorite cold drink.  Many times, my Lenten disciplines have become life affirming habits.

Lent can be a time of genuine enrichment, a real treasure, when we do a little inspection and repair work.  It’s good to do a full tune up.  The Lenten season is all about being in good running order.  By Easter our celebration can be “on the nose,” our spiritual engines purring like kittens.

Have you experienced any positive outcomes in observance of Lent?
How do you ‘tune up your spiritual engine’?

We'd love to hear from you!

At the age of nine, Marilyn wrote her first play with a childhood neighbor, “The Ghost and Mr. Giltwallet”.  It was a mystery.  And she’s been writing in one form or another, hobby or livelihood, since.  As well as teaching art, she’s had the opportunity to co-author several plays that have been performed on both church and secular stages, as well as two screenplays.  Marilyn has had the good fortune of “discovering her roots” while visiting England where she developed lasting relationships with wonderful people there.  It has greatly impacted her writing.  A great fan of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and David Cook’s Hetty Wainthropp series, Marilyn was inspired to write her Berdie Elliott Mystery series.  It takes place in a small English village where the vicar’s wife, Berdie Elliott, is the divine sleuth.  Marilyn lives lakeside in a cottage on the outskirts of Denver near the foothills.

Marilyn's book Up from the Grave is set during Lent!

Unearthed bones in the church back garden sends this small English village digging into the truth.

A Lenten sod turning ceremony for a new water feature in the back garden of St. Aidan of the Wood Parish Church goes utterly pear-shaped when the upturned soil reveals a human skeleton.  With Berdie Elliott at the helm, the whole of Aidan Kirkwood digs into the mystery.  When the bones held life, just who was this person?  Who is the mysterious contessa that arrives on the garden scene?  And what does the young and beautiful Robin Derbyshire’s wedding have to do with the grave?  Unearth the answers in this fun spring romp.
