#ThursdayThoughts on Friday!

Good Morning!

I normally don't do this but there's a reason I'm posting Thursday Thoughts on Friday Morning...Read on and you'll find out!

It's getting REAL now....Christmas is days away. If you did not receive my newsletter, you're missing out on a great deal of fun. Never fear though, I'm sharing it with you here......

MerrChristmas!

As I was pondering on what to write, these thoughts came to mind....

The Gift of Life

I know and understand the holiday season can be painful for those whose loved ones have transitioned from this life, so I wanted to take a moment, and, hopefully, be an encouragement to YOU–dear family, friends and loved ones.

This is the time of year many people take a moment and reflect on days/weeks/months past. We look forward to ringing in the new, but many times we don’t actually “ring out” the old.

Life is progressive. Always moving forward. Always evolving. Ever changing.

And so should we.

When we look at our pasts and make plans for our future, we should consider what old beliefs and/or mindsets need eradicating from our consciousness and with what to replace them.

Limiting beliefs about love, relationships, jobs, money, etc.,  are best left behind. While thoughts of happiness, joy and abundance are best experienced when allowed to run rampant through our hearts, minds, souls and bodies.

Our entire lives can take a turn for the better, miraculously even, when we choose to focus on the gift of life with which we’ve been blessed.

Therefore, when you take a moment to breathe deeply the crisp, fall air, or to draw in the sights and sounds of the holiday season, enjoy the moment, say a prayer of gratitude for your blessings and remember the old cliché … Yesterday is the past, Tomorrow the future, Today is a gift – that’s why it’s called the Present.

I have created a Christmas Word Find Puzzle for your fun and entertainment. It even has a misspelled word!

Download it HERE.

Those who find and respond with the misspelled word will be entered into a drawing for a Starbucks OR Amazon gift card. Winner will be announced in the January newsletter.

ALSO: If you signed up for my newsletter but did not get a welcome email to access your FREE short story, you can read it HERE (password: FREE).

I hope your Holidays are Blessed, Happy and Miraculous and that you'll join me in 2018 for another wonder-filled year.

Until next time, take care and God Bless.

                                                                    * * * * *

Folks seem to be having a LOT of fun with the word find puzzle, I hope you'll play along. If you'd like to sign up to receive my newsletter you can do so in the sidebar, from my website or simply click HERE.

Now for the reason I'm posting my Thursday Thoughts on Friday....  Santa's Book Shop is a feature fellow author Joan Reeves does annually on her blog for Christmas. Also on the 26th, she features boxed sets for 'Boxing Day' (I'll post something about that on the 26th). Meanwhile, be sure and visit Santa's Bookk Shop and choose a book or two for someone on your Christmas list or even for yourself!

#TuesdayTreasures with E.A. West!

Happy Tuesday!

Back in 2014 E.A. West shared treasures and the spotlight with us so it is with great pleasure I bring her back for another visit.

When Pam asked me to write about something I treasure, my thoughts immediately went to my youngest dog. I adopted Cody in July of 2014 when he was about eight weeks old. He came from a backyard “oops” litter, and I was assured he was the sweetest puppy of the bunch.

From the moment I met him, I knew he was different. This large, mixed breed pup seemed so confused by everything. He acted like a much younger puppy and was more insecure than he should have been when confronted with anything new. Cody spent most of his first three days at my house hiding behind or under a chair in the living room. Then he came out and started getting to know the other animals and people in the family.

He gained more confidence as he got older, but he continued to get confused easily. His sweet
personality shone through brightly, and he craved touch. It didn’t matter whether he was being petted, cuddled, or just leaning against someone, he constantly wanted physical contact. Mentally, he continued developing slowly. I joked that he was developmentally delayed...until he couldn’t find his way out from under a blanket, even if it was only over his head. I would throw a ball, but he didn’t understand that he was supposed to chase it. That’s when I realized he isn’t developmentally delayed. He has a low IQ.

Fast forward to today. Cody has the maturity level of a six to nine-month-old puppy most of the time and still gets confused, but I couldn’t ask for a sweeter, more intuitive dog. He picks up on the slightest change in my mood and does his best to make me feel better. He’s figured out blankets are fun to play with and no longer gets stuck under them. Fetch is beyond him, but now he’ll chase the ball, touch it with his nose, and stare at me as if to say, “What am I supposed to do now?” He still craves hugs, cuddles, and any physical contact he can get.

It’s been challenging at times to raise this special needs pup. The amount of patience and creativity needed to train him and build his confidence have been astronomical. Yet I will always treasure what I’ve learned along the way and the dog who taught it to me. He’s the most loyal, well-behaved dog I’ve ever owned, and I believe a lot of it can be attributed to his special needs.

Awww...how sweet! Cody reminds me of my own German Shepherd - Cassie! Now tell us about your latest book, Crash Course.

Parties, dirt bikes, boyfriends… Angie has it all, but everything changes when her father kicks her out. Gone are the freedom and parties she thrived on. Now she has to survive a conservative mother with strict rules and a stepfather who may or may not like her. Then she meets freestyle motocross rider Brady Scott. He’s gorgeous, talented, and shows her respect at every turn. There’s only one problem — his opinions of life are opposite hers. The more time she spends with him, however, the more she’s drawn to him.

As Angie struggles to find her place in two conflicting worlds, she gets a crash course in life lessons and has to make a difficult decision — give up the partying life to hang out with Brady and his youth group friends or continue down a dangerous path that could destroy her.

E.A. West, award-winning author of sweet and inspirational romance, is a lifelong lover of books and storytelling. In high school, she picked up her pen in a creative writing class and hasn’t laid it down yet. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys reading, knitting, and crocheting. She lives in Indiana with her family and a small zoo of pets.

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Dave Biebel & Away in a Manger

Good Morning!

Yesterday we woke up to a winter wonderland here in SW Louisiana. There was snow everywhere! Since it's a rarity of course we had to get pictures. Here are a couple for you to enjoy.....

Over the last couple of months we've met Dr. David Biebel and he's shared thoughts and treasures with us and introduced us to his Christmas book, Away in a Manger. Today Dave is sharing an excerpt with us.

Take it away Dave.....

Away in a Manger:
The Christmas Story from a Nativity Scene Lamb’s Point of View

(Excerpted from Chapter 4: “Angelic Visitations”)

by Dr. David Biebel

This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.
As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David," the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."
All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
“Look! The virgin will conceive a child!

She will give birth to a son,
and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’
When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have . . . relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.”
“To me, one amazing part of this passage is the message of the angel in Joseph’s dream," the pastor [narrator] said. “Joseph knew that Mary, to whom he was engaged, was pregnant, and that he was not the father. But he was a just man and he loved Mary, so he was going to divorce her secretly.
“Have you ever wondered how the angel knew what Joseph was thinking? The point is that God knows us through and through—our thoughts before we have them; our words before we say them; our deeds before we do them. That is definitely a sobering truth, and one that should motivate us to keep our mind stayed on him, for when we do that, we are so much more likely to live a life that honors him.
“But of course there’s another side to this story, and that is presented by Dr. Luke, who must have interviewed Mary in order to obtain the details that are included. Reading from Luke 1, in the New Living Translation:
In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”

Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. “Don’t be afraid,
Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!”

Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin”
The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. For the word of God will never fail.”
Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant.
May everything you have said about me come true” And then the angel left her.
“So Mary went to visit Elizabeth and this is what happened next," the pastor said:
She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s
child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said."
Mary responded,
“Oh, how my soul praises the Lord.
How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!
For he took notice of his lowly servant girl,
and from now on all generations will call me blessed.
For the Mighty One is holy,
and he has done great things for me.
He shows mercy from generation to generation
to all who fear him.
His mighty arm has done tremendous things!
He has scattered the proud and haughty ones.
He has brought down princes from their thrones
and exalted the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away with empty hands.
He has helped his servant Israel
and remembered to be merciful.
For he made this promise to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his children forever."

As if on signal, someone started playing a guitar and singing “Away in a Manger,” while the adults and teens joined in loudly, and the children ran forward to pet the animals. Many of them headed right for Ransom [the lamb] who was watching intently for [his new friend] Jenny, but she was nowhere to be seen. His countenance fell, well it fell as much as any lamb’s countenance can fall, but he knew he had to pay attention to the other children, whose caresses took away his sadness in a very short time.

On the way back to the ranch, Ransom asked, “Mommy, what is ‘lineage’? Do I have one of those?”
“Everyone does, dear,” she replied. “It means your parentage or family tree. This helps place a person like Jesus in history, and shows how his lineage could be traced back to King David, which was one element of the prophecies about him.”
“Is a family tree like a spruce or an oak?” he asked.
“Well now, I’ve never thought about it that way. An oak loses its leaves each year, but it also grows a little bit with each new spring, and it branches out so if you look up from the trunk, you can see branches in all directions, some of them with their own branches off the main branch. Since the phrase ‘family tree’ is using the idea of a tree that branches out, I’d say it’s more like an oak than a spruce.”
“So where am I on our family tree?”
“You’re like a bud at the very end of one of the branches. And if you become a father someday, you’ll then become part of a branch that has grown even longer.”
“And you are part of the same branch, only a little closer to the main trunk. I think I understand. . . .” Ransom stopped mid-sentence. “But I must also have a father. You’ve never mentioned him.”
“His name was Virgil, and for many years he was the master ram of our herd. But this spring, just after you were born, and I was not strong enough to defend you, he gave his life to save us from a mountain lion. He won the battle, but the lion wounded him so badly that there was nothing that could be done to save him.”
“Oh,” Ransom replied, not knowing if he should be sad he’d never gotten to know his father, or proud that his father had laid down his life to save the herd.
And for the first time in a long time, he couldn’t think of anything else to say.

#TuesdayTreasures with Dave Biebel

Good Morning!

A few weeks ago I introduced you to Dr. David Biebel, author and owner of Healthy Life Press. Today, Dave is sharing something he treasures with us....

What I Treasure Most
by Dr. David Biebel

My father was a preacher in northern New England. This meant that as far as the church was concerned, if the doors were open, we were there – with bright, shiny faces, and sitting in the second row, which was numbered 34 or something like that, because in olden times pews were rented to the constituents.

As far as the community was concerned, as PKs (preacher’s kids) we were supposed to be exemplary in some nebulous sort of way so the Gospel (and our father’s reputation) would not be impugned by some act of moral turpitude that one of us might commit. Being the oldest, I got to test that fence first, with the result that I learned the hard way that Jesus really is the “wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, prince of peace” (Isaiah 9:6) for there were times when I lost my bearings and needed a wonderful counselor, a mighty God to protect and call me back from my wanderings, a divine Father whose love is unconditional and eternal, a Person to provide a hiding place – his grace – where the storms of life could not drown me.

I treasure him whom the apostle Paul calls “the indescribable gift” (2 Cor. 9:15). But what I treasure most is the astounding process that God chose to give his Son to the world. For if Christianity were not the truth, no human would design this way to eternal life. Consider, for instance, the following passage from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 1:1-17, excerpted):

This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers.

Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah (whose mother was Tamar). Perez was the father of Hezron. Hezron was the father of Ram. Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon. Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab). Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth). Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon (whose mother was Bathsheba, the widow of Uriah). . . .

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who is called the Messiah. All those listed above include fourteen generations from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the Babylonian exile, and fourteen from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah.

Why would I treasure a part of the Scriptures that some find “boring?” This genealogy is extremely important because it establishes that Jesus had the credentials necessary to be the Messiah: son of Abraham; son of David. If this were not true, he could not have been the Messiah.

You would expect the Messiah to come from an impeccable family tree, wouldn’t you? But the first six verses of this passage name a liar, a conniver, a woman who seduced her father-in-law (thus causing him to commit incest), a prostitute, a Gentile, two adulterers (one of whom was a murderer, also). Sounds like a description of the moral mayhem taking place in our world today. “There is nothing new under the sun,” said Solomon (see Ecclesiastes 1).

While it’s true that Matthew was establishing the lineage of Jesus, God uses this ‘boring’ section to say something really awesome to anyone who will listen:

I can use anyone to accomplish my purposes, and ‘anyone’ includes you, with all your shortcomings and failures.

#TuesdayTreasures with Jacqueline Seewald!

Good Morning Friends!

Today's guest has shared treasures before and been in our spotlight as well, so please welcome back one of my long-time author friends, Jacqueline Seewald!

Time for Thanksgiving by Jacqueline Seewald

Pam has asked me to write about something I treasure. As we once again approach our national Thanksgiving holiday, this seems particularly appropriate.

First and foremost, I treasure my husband, my children and my grandchildren. I treasure good health. I also treasure the fact that I am now able to be a full-time writer.

My husband, Monte, encouraged me to write something that would be meaningful and significant. I thought long and hard about how to fulfill that suggestion.

On November 8th, my novella THE BURNING was published by Annurlunda Enterprises. The Burning is based on a play I wrote which won the Playhouse 22 Playwrights Award (in the late 1980’s) and was performed on stage. I decided to approach the story in another genre.

THE BURNING is faction, part fact, but also fiction, about what happens to a family in Pennsylvania as the result of a coal fire burning under the town. Members of the Ferris family face his or her personal hell, barely coming through it alive, forced to acknowledge painful truths and deal with issues of faith. It’s based on real events that occurred in Centralia. Unfortunately, such problems continue to plague coal-mining communities in different places. And there are no easy answers.

Here is a brief excerpt from the novella:

Chapter Four

George drove home on autopilot, detached, barely aware of his surroundings. The talk with Baines kept turning over in his head. He’d worked so hard for so many years to provide a good life for his family. Was that going to end now? The whole thing seemed crazy. Could some underground fire wreck his life and that of his family? He shook his head, refusing to accept this as inevitable.

The living room of George Ferris’s house usually offered a refuge, but he didn’t want to walk inside yet. Instead he stood in the front hallway praying for composure while silently lurking. He could see Amy was sitting on the sofa attentively reading a book, feet tucked under her.

Every so often, she coughed. Liz came into the room. She was dressed in brown slacks and a casual cream-colored blouse. He admired how beautiful his wife was. With her natural good looks, she wore very little make-up and didn’t need it. George was reminded of how much he loved her. Liz was the real deal. What would this news do to her? She deserved so much better in life. For a few minutes, he watched Liz straightening up the room, but then she stopped to listen to Amy’s recurring cough.
THE BURNING is now available both in print and as an e-book. You can check out the details from the publisher at:

#ThursdayThoughts with Dave Biebel

Good Morning!

Today's guest is brand new to our blog so please give Dave Biebel a great, big, SW LA welcome and see what thoughts he has to share with us today. Take it away Dave....

Some Uplift for Your Downcast
Dr. David Biebel

Every day that I knew him, my grandfather read the New York Times, front to back. Many of those days, when I was in prep school and college and seminary he would end the letter or conversation with this question: Do you think we’ll ever beat the Russians? He died a few years ago, and I’m glad that he didn’t live to see the chaos in our world today, because he took a lot of it inside, with the result that he experienced quite a lot of anxiety over things he couldn’t change. From one who knows, it’s not hard to inherit this tendency.

Thankfully, there is Jesus, Prince of Peace. My most uplifting thought these days is that the Prince of Peace is still the Prince of Peace, and all around us people long for what he can bring to them and to their world. It’s up to Followers of Christ to tell them, and show them -- “to give them what they need in the guise of what they want.”

And that summarizes why I wrote the book, Away in a Manger: The Christmas Story from a Nativity Scene Lamb’s Point of View. It’s stealth evangelism when an agnostic parent reads the words in this book to the children, at Christmas time or anytime. Imagine that parent reading, from this little book:

"It was the prophet Isaiah who said the Lord would keep us in perfect peace, if our mind was stayed on him. Isaiah prophesied:

... the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Im¬manuel (which means "God is with us").

"We all know that's not the way it works; but God is in the miracle business and that is how he decided to make it work. Then, just a few verses later, the prophet added this":

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

"What a marvelous description of the Lord Jesus Christ, given approximately 700 years before he was born!"
-----
When I was a pastor, it was challenging to find a way to tell this old, old story in a new way, or at least in a way that had the congregation sitting on the edge of their pews, engaged in a novella with great original art, versus sitting on the edge of their pews hoping the roast wouldn’t burn if the sermon went too long.
Though I never achieved it then, a chance meeting with an inquisitive lamb named “Ransom” -- which occurred in my mind about three years ago – and the help of a great young artist, Marina Calin, we resurrected the Christmas story project.

The following is a fellow author’s reaction: This extraordinary Christmas storybook tells the Christmas story in an entirely new and fresh way that will capture the hearts of both children and adults. The book is filled with beautiful lifelike illustrations and rich content that will educate children and surprise adults, enriching the typical way the story has grown to be told with fascinating Christian history and solid theology. Using God's creation, in this case a lamb, to tell the Christmas story paints a compelling picture of the true meaning of Christmas. Anyone who has children in their life should first read this book and then give it as a gift with a personal inscription to each and every child they can think of this Christmas.  -- Monte Swan

This full-color book is available in two sizes, 6.5x6.5 and 8xl0 (Large Print). The ISBN for the 8xl0 (Large Print) version is: 978-1-939267-85-6, $15.99. THE CHRISTMAS ANGEL THIEF
by Lillian Duncan
Zoe Adams has a secret—one that’s worth killing for!

As the country’s most infamous PK (preacher’s kid), Zoe chose to rebel against her famous father and his beliefs. Instead, she lived the party lifestyle with the rich and famous of Hollywood until she disappeared after witnessing a crime. After more than three years of running and hiding, all she wants is to go home for Christmas but knows that can never happen—if she wants to stay alive.

Ex-FBI agent, Marco Bernstein traded his gun in for a Bible. His path crosses with Zoe’s in a most unusual way. When he recognizes her, he makes a promise to get her home for Christmas but someone else is just as determined to make sure Zoe never gets home alive so keeping that promise turns out to be more difficult than Marco ever imagined—and even more dangerous!

ANGELS AMONG US
by V. B. Tenery

In the season of Love, Peace and Joy, a chance meeting with a young woman in a supermarket sets Detective Cole Allen on an urgent quest to save the lives of three young women.
It will take the combined skill and dedication of the Twin Falls Homicide Bureau, and a helping hand from God, to locate and end the nightmare of the helpless victims.

WORKS OF DARKNES
by V. B. Tenery

Some secrets just won’t stay buried.

A construction site provides a horrific discovery when a worker uncovers the skeleton of a small child wrapped in a sleeping bag. Police Chief Matt Foley links the murder to another cold case, the hit-and-run death of Attorney Josh Bradford.

The long-suppressed memory of the young victim’s childhood friend, Sara Bradford may hold the key to both crimes. But Matt has mixed emotions about Sara—his prime suspect in her husband’s murder.

Matt soon discovers the twenty-five-year-old mystery has the power to stretch across decades to kill again.

A devout Christian at heart, Jeremy Hinton, a Psychotherapist, Life Coach, Spiritual Mentor and Energy Medicine Practitioner has studied all of the world’s religions and homeopathic healing modalities. CHRISTMAS WITH THE ENEMY
By Mary Vee

Samantha Windermere, a successful marketing intern, is lured by her parents to leave a hectic Chicago life for one relaxing week in the Windermere/Tucker family-share lodge. She arrives in a Rocky Mountain blizzard before anyone else and is scared when the family enemy walks through the door.

The generation-old disagreement between the Windermeres and Tuckers over a priceless antique toy sparks when Sam’s parents arrive a few hours late and find Hank. A family Christmas just can’t be celebrated with one of them on the grounds.

Sam’s boss calls with an emergency from the Chicago office to the archaic lodge landline. She must attend a meeting tomorrow evening or her money-making account will be given to her rival. With no cell phone coverage or Internet at the lodge, city girl Sam must ask family enemy and mountain man, Hank, to guide her through white-out conditions to find an Internet connection.

Blizzards, avalanches, bear attacks, snowmobile accidents, and deadlines become minor concerns when Hank’s parents arrive unexpectedly, igniting the toy train feud and exploding any chance for Peace on Earth.

Oh, how good and how pleasant it is for the brethren to dwell together in unity. Psalm 133:1 KJV
