#ThursdayThoughts with Melisa Marzett

Happy All Saints Day!

Last month I introduced you to Melisa Marzett, a freelance writer hoping to gain a little more exposure for her writing when she shares something she treasures with us. Today Melisa returns to share some of her thoughts......

“Gone with the Wind” was the first book I took from my mom’s bookshelf…

I remember the time when I went to visit my parents’ house in Arizona. My mom used to have some cosy space in the living room of her own library, which was always full of different fiction and non-fiction books. I found this beautiful cover of “Gone with the Wind” by Margaret Mitchell on the top of the shelf (guess it was mom’s favourite book collection), the Pulitzer Price award-winning novel describes the period of the Civil War events and the Reconstruction of America in the middle 30’s of the 20th century.

I was in my twenties when I first read this book. Very powerful, fundamental novel. A great classic book, which shows the perfect example of how to move through the challenges such as war, slavery and other difficulties a life can present. The plot closely intertwined with the important historical event of the 19th century, which instantly attracted my attention. (I am a huge fan of American history) From the very beginning until the last page, I was deeply impressed by the characters, their dignity, faith, strength and unconditional love for life. It is a story full of amazing descriptions that give depth to the heroes as well as to the plot of the novel where lies loyalty, betrayal, friendship, love and patriotism. We are not able to change the history of past events but to face the fact how far we have gone…

Let me know in the comments what do you think about this book. Do you love classic literature? What are you reading now?

“Men are motivated when they feel needed while women are motivated when they feel cherished.” (John Gray, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus)

I would like to share my thoughts with people who truly value strong and healthy relationships as one of the most important treasures in our lives.

It is an essential part of our nature to have a person, who will spend a lifetime with you. Nothing compares to the most beautiful feeling two persons can possess. To LOVE someone genuinely without demanding anything in return is a great wonder. Building romantic relationships are not just about the initial bonding, when you see your partner’s personal and business growth, it is so encouraging… you want to grow with him or her, spend more time together, be the best motivation, achieve more goals and reach together new heights. That is the key, which might open a treasure chest, where happy relationships will last for many years.

Have you ever fallen deeply in love? Have you already found your hidden treasure? Leave a comment down below. I would be glad to see your answers and let me know if you have book recommendations in the psychological field on how to create devoted and faithful relationships with your partner.

You're so right, Melisa! Relationships are wonderful treasures in our lives. Thanks for sharing. Here's wishing you the best of luck and God's blessings on your writing career.

Thanks for stopping by and supporting Melisa friends. I hope you'll drop by often for more Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlights!

Until next time take care and God Bless.

#TuesdayTreasures: Special Guest Post by Melanie Purifoy!

Good Morning Friends,

Today it is my great pleasure to introduce you to a very special friend of mine. Melanie and I met about ten years ago when we worked together to produce her book, One Touch: A Woman's Journey to Wholeness. Over the span of time, Melanie's life underwent many changes and like a lot of folks, the book rested on her hard drive and in the back of her mind.

Today, One Touch is available for your reading pleasure! I'll share more about the book in a little bit, but first Melanie shares with us something she treasures.....Relationships...

As I contemplate the topic of what I truly treasure, many things come to mind with a brief explosive element of excitement. As a cancer survivor, I feel I should humbly and gratefully say "life". However, my life is truly joyous because of my relationships. The one constant is my life has been the exploring, building, and healthy maintenance with the people in my life. I have studied boundaries and forgiveness. I have worked on my own codependency. And I have learned the importance of patience, compassion, and understanding.

I treasure my friendships, family, mentors, and students. And in each individual case I have come to understand that working to have the healthiest relationship possible is always my gift to myself. I become enlightened in new ways and my perspective shifts into a multi-dimensional view of the world and the people in it.

There was a time when I managed a large number of people in a Fortune 500 company. My strength was influencing people to get jobs completed and deadlines met. I was highly effective at this and prided myself on my ability to take a troubled project and turn it into a finished, fully functioning environment in a matter of a few short weeks. I would fly back home feeling proud and accomplished. However, I could not have told you one thing about any of those people's lives that I had just spent numerous hours with all working together to complete a goal. And once the feeling of pride and accomplishment dissolved, I felt lonely.
Today I treasure the brief visits with my busy children, the phone calls with my aging mother who lives over 800 miles away, and the quiet evenings my husband and I spend as empty-nesters. I cherish my visits with my grandson and share little pearls of insight about God, forgiveness, and loving one's self. He is a wise, old soul for such a young man.

I feel very proud that I have passed down the importance of relationship building to each one of my four children. They too cherish their relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries that nourish their souls.

My interaction with others strengthens my connection to God and enhances my personal relationship with Christ. I value the life lessons that have brought me here. And I will continue to always cherish the people in my life as precious treasures.
Melanie Purifoy draws from her own experience as a two-time cancer survivor bringing to life the character of Rebekah, the bleeding woman healed by Jesus in the New Testament. After being diagnosed with invasive cancer she began a one-day-at-a-time healing path to recovery. Her miracle brought into focus that healing one’s body, mind, and spirit can only be attributed to God’s grace and her willingness to reach out for the gifts He had bestowed upon her.

After training and becoming a certified Heal Your Life coach, a course developed from the methods and philosophy of Louise Hay, Melanie founded Conscious Creations, a support network for cancer survivors, their families, and physicians. Using the principles of forgiveness and acceptance as the basis of her teaching, Melanie conducts workshops and life coaching. One Touch A Woman's Journey to Wholeness is a result of her compassionate insight into the lives of minor characters of the Bible and can be found at Amazon (Kindle) and Smashwords.

Well, I'm sure we can all relate to Melanie treasuring the relationships in her life. Check back Thursday when she shares some thoughts with us on Transparency vs Invisible.

Until then, take care & God Bless!

#ThursdayThoughts: Chivalry

Yep, you read that right. I'm thinking & talking about chivalry. But before we get into my thoughts, let's define Chivalry.....

The definition I found here, is that men should be truthful, loyal, courteous to others, helpmates to women, supporters of justice, and defenders of the weak. They are also expected to avoid scandal.

This is all fine, good and well, but what about women?

You know, I'm kinda tired of men getting a bad rap. I know, I know, there are all sorts of reasons men have that reputation...years of oppression, chauvinism, abuse and all that, but instead of keeping them ALL pegged as dogs or bums or jerks, we women should look to our own beliefs, behaviors, and expectations to see if and how we contribute to that of the man/men in our lives.

No, I'm not saying that it's all our fault (nor is it Eve's!!!) but what I am saying is that if we buy into the rhetoric that all men are dogs and jerks, then we not only expect them to be that way and to treat us that way, but we are often closed off to the ones who are the complete opposite!

So my challenge to you is this.... Treat the man/men in your life the way you want/expect to be treated.

Want to be respected? Respect him--his thoughts, feelings, dreams, and ideas are important too.

Want to be loved? Love him--his heart is tender too.

Want to be cherished? Cherish him--treat him with kindness and tenderness and he will respond likewise.

Want to be romanced? Romance him--what's your idea of a romantic gesture? Doing that for him will encourage him to be more generous in this area. Know also, that his idea of romance might not match yours exactly but appreciate his efforts and communicate your needs in a gentle way and he will learn!

Want to be encouraged and uplifted? Encourage and uplift him.

It is my honest and humble opinion that most men want to please their lady but ladies, if we have no clue what it takes to please us, how on earth can we expect him to know?

More importantly, if we're giving him mixed signals, how is he supposed to get it right?

I also believe deep inside, most men have the heart of a gentleman. However, in this day and age where they are labeled as pansies or whatever, and treated as less 'manly' when their tender side is exposed, many are afraid to let that gentleman out of his cage of insecurity and false bravado.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule and sometimes the best thing you can do for your own health and sanity is to leave a relationship but when you do, leave with kindness and take time to heal your heart, soul and mind before jumping into another.
