Tuesday Treasure: Simple Things

Happy Tuesday Morning and I pray it is a Blessed one for you out there!

A couple of songs have been running through my head this morning.... the Christmas jingle about "my favorite things" and the tune sung by Kenny Chesney about the simple things in life.  This brought to mind a question....

How often do we really appreciate the simple gifts we are blessed with on any given day?

The more I study and experience living in alignment with God/Jesus/Holy Spirit/Angels & Saints, the more I'm beginning to realize the necessity of gratitude for the simplest things.

Like sunrise splashing color across the sky & weeping its tint onto the hills.

After all, gratitude (thanksgiving) is one of the most basic courtesies.

All of the spiritual leaders I study tout the value of gratitude for everything in life, even (especially) the simplest. So as you go about your day today, think of all the treasures in your life....and send up prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving for each and every one of them....then, do the same for the dreams in your heart.

Speaking of dreams....  just a reminder....Tempered Dreams (and the entire series) is available in Ebook @ Amazon, Barnes&Noble, and Smashwords and will soon be available in print!

Dr. Scott Hensley (introduced in Tempered Hearts) has built a wall around his heart since the death of his wife and parents.  Katrina Simmons is recovering from scars inflicted on her as a battered wife.  Can dreams be renewed and faith strengthened?  Can they find joy and peace in God’s love and in love for one another?

Saturday Spotlight: Gail Lukasik & Peak Season for Murder!

Good Morning!

This week we welcome Gail Lukasik back to our Spotlight with her brand new release, Peak Season For Murder.

Twenty-three years ago local actress Danielle Moyer vanished after starring in a play at the Bayside Theater—Door County’s professional residential theater. Her body was never found. And no one knows what happened to her.
Now the specter of her ghost seems to be haunting the Bayside Theater’s summer season. Two of the actors who appeared with Danielle that fateful summer have returned--Julian Finch, a renowned stage actor; and Nate Ryan, Hollywood’s reformed bad boy. Has their return unleashed the bizarre events now plaguing the theater? From a proliferation of bats invading the stage one night to the planting of a real knife in the prop box. And strangest of all, the unnerving clues someone is leaving inside the abandoned Moyer cabin.
Door County Gazette reporter Leigh Girard, who’s writing an article on the theater for their 65th Anniversary, chalks the pranks up to theatrical hijinks. She’s engrossed investigating the murder of Brownie Lawrence, a formerly homeless man she befriended. Desperate to prove Brownie’s long-time friend, Ken Albright didn’t kill him, Leigh digs into Brownie’s past and discovers Brownie had assumed another man’s identify. But unraveling the secrets to Brownie real identity doesn’t bring her any closer to proving Albright’s innocence.
Then things turn deadly. Leigh suspects that the fate of Danielle Moyer has triggered a deadly revenge. What she never expects to find is a killer so vengeful—anyone is fair game including her.
EXCERPT

Prologue: Twenty-Four Years Earlier

The woman stood over her sleeping lover, watching the gentle rise and fall of his naked chest, listening to his breathing. In her right hand, she held the pistol, the one he’d given her for protection.
“Mostly from me,” he’d joked.
Small, compact with an ivory handle, she could cradle it in the palm of her hand, carry it in her jacket pocket, hide it in her purse, and no one would see it.
She raised her right hand and aimed the gun at his temple.
How easy it would be to kill him, she thought. And no one could blame me.
As if he sensed her, he took a deep breath and let out a soft snore, then settled back to sleep.
On his left hand she could see the glint of his gold wedding band.
“You knew what we were about. I never lied to you,” had been his explanation.
Was I that weak, she wondered? No, he was that strong.
Suddenly, lightning flashed against the window, lighting up the room for a second as if illuminating her weakness—his perfect face.
She pulled back on the trigger thinking how easily she could destroy it.
A clap of thunder crashed overhead.
Had his eyes flickered open for a brief second? she thought, holding her breath. But it was just an illusion; he went on softly snoring, oblivious as always, wrapped up in his own dreams.
No, she told herself as she eased up on the trigger.
She took one more look at him before she crept out of the bedroom.
As she stood in the living room, she was tempted to take something, some reminder of this time. But she knew she had to make it look right.
She put the pistol back in the desk drawer.
Quietly, she opened the front door, locking it behind her, as if she had never been there, as if she had never let him into her life.
Her car was parked in front of the apartment building. But she walked past it into the dark, wet night, the rain soaking through her t-shirt and jeans. She congratulated herself on two things: her cleverness in staging her own disappearance and her restraint in not killing him—the man who had ruined her.
After all, she thought to herself, as she headed toward the highway, murder was never part of the plan. I simply want to disappear forever.
Chapter One: Present Day, Sunday, July 9

“Didn’t mean to scare you, Leigh,” Ken Albright said, his eyes scanning the woods. “But I can’t be too careful, now.”
The now hung in the air like the blistering heat and humidity. Ken lowered the aluminum bat, and with it his powerful shoulders sagged. He seemed to shrink into himself as if something were eating him from the inside.
“Next time say something, before you jump out at me with that bat.” I bent over and gathered up the spilled contents of my shoulder bag, my hands shaking.
He’d left me a cryptic voice message around six this morning that had propelled me to Marshalls Point, where he and Brownie Lawrence lived in a dilapidated shack off North Bay.
“Brownie’s dead. I gotta show you where I found him. It isn’t right. You come today.” Ken’s words were clipped with rage, and I was afraid for him. Only one person could keep Ken’s anger in check, and that person was dead.
“Yeah, well, c’mon,” Ken demanded. That was the closest to an apology I was going to get.
He walked past me, and I caught a peculiar odor of sweat and sweetness like musky rotting fruit. I knew hygiene was a problem for the men and that on warm days they bathed in the bay. Winters they hitchhiked to the YMCA in Fish Creek.
I dusted the sandy soil off my bag, slung it over my shoulder and hurried behind him. I’d been blundering down the path looking for the three stones that marked the hidden entrance to the men’s shack when he’d jumped out at me holding the bat like a weapon.
As I walked, I studied his clothes: cut-off jeans and a white muscle shirt. White strings hung from the jeans, and his t-shirt was yellow around the armpits. The gnats and black flies, which kept circling me, didn’t seem to bother him. A black fly was perched atop his shaved head.
When we came to the scarred pine, Ken moved left, pushed back a tangle of dense shrubs and then disappeared into the forest. He must have removed the three stones. No wonder I couldn’t find the entrance.
I scurried after him, stumbling through the heavy green undergrowth and tall, ancient trees, wondering if it was fear or anger that had made him remove the stone markers.
We walked in silence until the woods opened into a clearing. There stood the ramshackle house the two formerly homeless men had built a few feet from the bay. Like their lives, the house had been pieced together from what was at hand—plywood, tarp and tin. How they lived there in the winter was beyond me. But I knew it was better than living on the streets.
“We got windows now.” Ken pointed toward two windows on the front of the house, which caught the sun in a shimmering blaze. “Salvaged them from an abandoned barn down the road.”
“How did you get them here?” I knew he was slowly leading up to what he wanted to show me, Brownie’s last resting place, and I wasn’t going to push him. Always touchy, Ken now gave off the vibe of a wounded animal.
“Carried them.” Ken walked away abruptly, still toting the bat. When he came to a gnarled cherry tree beside the house, he stopped. “That’s it. That’s where I found him when I got back from my sister’s yesterday.”
I stared at the indentation in the grassy weeds—a yellowed outline where Brownie’s body had lain exposed to the elements.
Dark pellets of dry and rotting fruit were scattered under the tree and crushed where Brownie’s body had been. I took a step closer and was assaulted with the rank odor of decay. I put my hand over my nose. There was a clumped stain that looked like dried blood. Though it could be crushed fruit. It was hard to tell. And I wasn’t about to poke around in it.
“I should have never gone to see my sister in Green Bay.” Ken scratched the back of his neck. “I coulda gotten him to a doctor. Maybe saved him. He didn’t deserve to lie out here like a dog for days, rotting. The damn insects had already gotten to him.”
“Do you know how he died?” I asked, still staring at the clumped stain. “That looks like blood.”
“How would I know? I wasn’t here. Maybe Brownie hit his head or something. Maybe you could find out.” It wasn’t a question. “The police kept asking me stuff like were we getting along, where was I, that kind of thing. I wanted to bust them one. But I kept looking at Brownie lying there on his back with his eyes open, and I could hear him saying to me, ‘Take it easy, Kenny. Just let it go. You know what happens when you get mad.’ So I held my temper.”
The last time I’d seen Brownie, he was strumming his beat-up guitar and singing, “Take It Easy,” at the beach party celebrating the bequeath of land to him and Ken by the Door Conservancy. That was two weeks ago.
“I’ll give Deputy Jorgensen a call and see what I can find out for you.” I wondered if the police suspected foul play or were just being thorough.
Ken looked off toward the water. I could see the glisten of tears in his eyes. “But I fixed them cops all right.”
I waited for him to tell me why he’d really called me from the marina in Sister Bay this morning.

Thursday Thoughts: Intimacy

Good Morning Friends and welcome to another edition of Thursday Thoughts.

Although I do my best to share my heart with you every time I write or post something here, today I'm really going deeper.

I've given you my thoughts on Kisses but today I want to talk to you about intimacy.

Many folks confuse intimacy with sex but that's not what I'm talking about. I meet so many people today whose idea of being intimate is jumping into bed with someone. While that may be a wonderful experience, they don't always realize what they're missing!

Intimacy is not about getting naked with each other literally, it is however, about getting naked in every other way.

Okay so now I've got you confused. Welcome to the club LOL!

As I mentioned in my post on being single, I didn't ask to be thrust into this role. I've always felt more complete as part of a couple. I love being in a monogamous, committed relationship. I love being half of the whole!

I know, I know, you can't be half a couple unless you're a whole person and someone who has experienced the loss of a spouse (or marriage) needs time to heal and become whole, but that is not my point! (I'm getting off track here...we're supposed to be talking about intimacy)...

One thing I've learned in this time of "single-hood" is that what I miss most about being in a relationship is the intimacy....no, not the sex..the INTIMACY.

Now you think I'm weird, or frigid...let me assure you both are far from the truth! I mean, I don't write romance for nothing LOL! and I certainly know how to enjoy the natural progression and fulfillment of a physical relationship with the man I love.

That's just it though, if there is no LOVE and no INTIMACY, why then should you venture into sex?

Okay, maybe I was born in the wrong century or am just too old fashioned for my own good, but that's how I feel.

I miss being intimate, feeling cherished, and cherishing .... long, intelligent conversations, hugs and caresses, sweet, undemanding kisses....all those little things that when added together may end up culminating in physical completion, but are just as stimulating (maybe more) when they don't!

True love is more than a great sex life. True love is intimacy. True love is commitment and compromise and sometimes just deciding that whatever you disagree on is not worth fighting about, not worth losing your intimacy over, not worth the stress and drama and upset of losing sleep and peace.

If you've known me for a while, you know I write to encourage, not judge or condemn and this post is no different, so here's a little advice:

If you are single, don't compromise intimacy for sex.

If you are in a relationship, seek intimacy above all else because where there is love and intimacy, there is peace, joy and contentment.

JMHO of course, but definitely something to think about....

Saturday Spotlight: Marilyn Dawson with "Mom's Little Black Book"

Good Morning Friends!

So much is going on in my life! Good things are happening. One is that I'm getting my Tempered series & The Visionary up on Smashwords, so if you have an e-reader (other than a Kindle or Nook) you can now get them! Check out my page HERE.

Enough about me though...Today we welcome Marilyn Dawson back to our Saturday Spotlight with another of her titles. Mom's Little Black Book: Godly Advice for the High School Graduate sounds like a great book to give to the graduates in your life. Here's more about it and Marilyn.....

Marilynn Dawson, author of "Becoming the Bride of Christ: A Personal Journey", has written a new book entitled, "Mom's Little Black Book: Godly Advice for the High School Graduate".  This little book is meant to be a Mother's attempt at guiding her teen-turning-young adult through some of the more common aspects of daily life.  Among it's pages the reader will find quotes from a much more comprehensive guide, otherwise known as the Bible!  Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.  Each page contains one tidbit of advice, or a Scripture, or a work-page to help your youth along their way.  This book is divided into sections, so that if your teen needs advice on something, they can find it quicker just by going directly to the desired section.

God says to raise up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.  God also urges parents to ensure that their children, like arrows from a quiver placed in the bow-string, fly straight and true.  It is Marilynn's hope that these tidbits of advice assist your youth to fly straight and true as they go out to become all that God created and designed them to be.

EXCERPT: Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

My Dearest Child,

There are many forces in the world that seek to conform you to their standard, their way of thinking, their ideals, their measure of success, etc.

Do not be swayed by the world, but instead, measure yourself against the Word of God!  When your ways please God, you can rest at night knowing the only person who matters, smiles over you.  Pattern your life after God's ways and you'll never go wrong.

Love,
Mom

God has a sense of humour.  How do I know?  Just look at the Platypus!

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Don't hoard God's blessings for yourself.  You may just be the delivery conduit.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me."

Attend the House of God!  Don't abandon it because of how others treat you!

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Spend a little time every day in God's Word.  It is food for your daily life.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Remember God's involvement in your life, how He was there in various situations.  He is there now.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Talk to God.  He loves to hear about your day and how you feel.

Mom's Little Black Book: Godly Advice for the High School Graduate can be purchased through Amazon.

Thursday Thoughts: Fatigue

Good Morning Friends,

Today's thoughts revolve around fatigue...mental, emotional, spiritual and physical.

We all go through times where we feel just plain worn out...tired, burned out, etc.

What can we do, especially when the workload doesn't seem to get any smaller?

Take a break!

Walk, meditate, phone friends, rest, read a book, just do something different for a bit.

Whether 10, 30, 60 minutes or a whole day, nothing is as important as your health ...again mental, physical, spiritual, & emotional.

That's what I'm going to do today.

I've had so much going on and so many irons in the fire that although I feel great, my brain is plain tired.

So...I'm off to play today!

Hope your day is filled with Bliss!

Tuesday Treasure: Sedona, AZ

Good Morning Friends!

If you've been following me for a while, you know that I made my first trip to Arizona last month and I must say it is a beautiful state!

My first introduction to Sedona, AZ came from reading a Nora Roberts's book. I don't remember the title but I remember the story well. A reporter, a novelist and the beautiful setting of Sedona. Ever since reading that book, I've wanted to visit this place.

Known as one of the earths spiritual portals, I'd heard of the majesty and beauty. I was not disappointed.

The landscape is amazing, the colors magnetic and the scenery absolutely gorgeous. Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy...

There is also a beautiful church called Holy Cross Chapel built into a hillside.

If you ever get a chance to visit Sedona, I promise it'll be a trip you'll treasure.

Until later...take care, God Bless and remember....Love felt on the spiritual level is the truest, purest form

First, I’d very much like to thank Pam for inviting me to be the focus of her Spotlight blog this weekend.

September is an important month for me as an author. My co-authored mystery novel THE THIRD EYE: A PINE BARRENS MYSTERY is published in a hardcover edition on September 12th from Five Star/Gale/Cengage. Reviews are starting to appear. (That’s the hard part, waiting for reviews and hoping they will be good!)

I am particularly pleased by the recent review in Buried Under Books:
“The Third Eye was an excellent read and I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages and types.”
You can read the full review on the Buried Under Books blog. You can request this book at your local library or check it out @ Amazon and from the Publisher.

Harlequin Worldwide Mystery published two more of my Kim Reynolds librarian sleuth romantic mystery novels, THE INFERNO COLLECTION and THE TRUTH SLEUTH, available in low cost paperback editions this year. (They previously published THE DROWNING POOL in 2012).

On September 1st, they published DEATH LEGACY in a paperback edition. This stand alone novel is a fast-paced romantic suspense mystery/spy thriller. You’ll find it HERE.

The novel received excellent reviews from both BOOKLIST and PUBLISHERS WEEKLY among others.  Here are some blurbs from the reviewers: http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-1-4328-2573-7

“In this entertaining novel of romantic suspense from Seewald, international PI Michelle Hallam looks into the mysterious death of CIA agent James Parker… This thriller keeps moving from its very first pages, while the palpable sexual tension between new cohorts Daniel and Michelle fortifies the story's intrigue with romance.”

http://www.booklistonline.com/Death-Legacy-Jacqueline-Seewald/pid=5273579 “Seewald (The Drowning Pool, 2009; The Truth Sleuth, 2011) has written a tale of international intrigue sure to please fans of thrillers and romantic suspense.”

“I enjoyed the pace of the story as well as the bantering between the two main characters. This story will draw you in and keep your attention to the end. The author knows how to make her words dance across the page. If you’re looking for an exciting mystery/thriller, this book will work fine for you.” Long Short Reviews

“The plot is twisty as a thriller should be. The romance between Michelle and Daniel is heated...This is a good action thriller with a bit of romance and well developed plot…If you enjoy international thrillers with a bit of intrigue and romance, give Death Legacy a try.”   The Gumshoe Review

Thursday Thoughts: Wisdom in Choices

Good Morning Friends,

Today I'm sharing my thoughts on wisdom in the choices we make.

James 1:5 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

Now I'm not going to sit here and lead you to believe I've always made the wisest choices in life. It's safe to say we can ALL look back and see where we failed to use wisdom. But as followers of Christ, we should seek to do so in all things.

Especially those life changing choices.

So as you go about your day and deal with the circumstances and choices you have to face, take a moment (or several) to pray and seek the wisdom of God before you decide.

How do you know you've used wisdom and made the right choice?

Again, look to the bible for the answer...

Colossians 3:15 says,  "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful."

If you have prayed for wisdom and have peace about the decision you make, go with your gut instinct and remember the devil is a liar and the source of confusion so don't second guess that which comes to you in total peace.

Something to think about....

Speaking of Choices, check out my short story!

Best-selling novelist and songwriter, Camie Rogers has penned numerous accounts of the secret love she holds in her heart. Country-Music Superstar Kip Allen has changed from the shy, humble boy, to the epitome of “star.” Can the two rediscover each other after one night of his Home is where the Heart is Tour?

Available now directly from the Publisher, @ Amazon for Kindle & Barnes and Noble for Nook!

Well friends, hope you enjoyed this week's Thursday Thoughts. Until later...take care, God Bless and Remember....What you choose today creates your circumstances tomorrow!

Tuesday Treasure: Awakening the Harmony Within by Eugenia Oganova

Good Morning Friends!

I pray your Labor Day weekend was blessed, fun, restful & safe and that your month has gotten off to a great start!

Today's Tuesday Treasure is a VBT brought to you by Nikki Leigh Promotions.

Clarifying your Soul’s desires, and the setup of proper intention for their manifestation

Intent is a purposeful aligned design. Affirmations and self-programing are ways of intent-application in order to manifest a desired reality. Affirmation is a strong declaration. Programingis a sequence of command instructions from the Higher Mind. The Higher Mind then influences the lower mind, the emotional body and the physical body, manifesting what we desire. Manifesting our desires is guaranteed. But this guarantee has six “small print” clauses:

  1. embodying the truth that “I Am God” (for affirmations) and alignment with the Divine Mind (for self-programing);
  2. alignment with the perfect “Universal Timing”;
  3. precise wording;
  4. faith/ belief without proof;
  5. detachment;
  6. absence of doubt (facing/consciously transmuting the “internal Saboteur”).
And these six parameters are often the reasons why intentions do not work. Making a positive affirmation while having fears, worries, doubts and disbelief will achieve nothing. The same result will follow if an affirmation/intention is not continuous because we expected it to work immediately. If one is not detached while affirming (i.e. “know that it is”), it is very easy to manifest the fears of not getting what we want instead. If one does not comprehend, agree and embody as personal truth the knowledge that we are all interconnected, that our thoughts generate our perceptions and that there are Universal Laws that govern energy interactions, NO affirmation will work because its origin will be “too low” (instead of originating in one’s Divine Self, it will emanate from the lower mind).

This is why detachment is necessary for awakening. It allows us to release unconscious intense emotions, so we stop bringing these unwanted experiences into our lives. When detachment is mastered, intent is under our conscious command, and so is the application of intense desire upon request of our Higher Selves. Detachment does not mean “no desires,” instead it implies the knowing that any desire that is in alignment with the Universe is already fulfilled.

Intentions can easily be diffused by the “internal Saboteur”, a belief or memory that is opposite from that which we are stating. This “Saboteur” is a secondary pattern that runs parallel to the one we are affirming, thus they cancel each other out. One of the main “Saboteurs” to being in alignment with “I Am” Divine Self is the belief that we are only spiritual if we do “right, spiritual things”, like meditate, or do lucid dreaming, or eat a certain way, take vitamins, and many other limiting ideas we subscribe to.

An example of intent (program) that can override this pre-set self-judgment is this: “All my energy bodies, and my cellular body, are harmonious with the Universe. This is the truth in every moment, whether I eat, sleep, exercise, meditate or do anything else.” By choosing to program yourself with this intent, you are transmuting limiting feelings and thoughts.
Excerpt from “Intentions and Manifestation” chapter
of "Awakening the Harmony Within" by Eugenia Oganova

Awakening the Harmony Within: How to Create With Spirit by Eugenia Oganova delves much deeper and eliminates the fluff you find in so many books on these topics.  For people who want to make a dramatic change in their lives and want the full details on how to make that happen – this is a must have book. For more information about Eugenia Oganova and her work – visit her website and to get your copy today @ Amazon!

From the Author:  I have always felt myself to be “on a mission” of enlightment – for myself, others, and the planet. My clairvoyant abilities allow me to have an intimate relationship with Earth, the Galaxy, and the Universe, which have never felt far away to me. Being able to perceive the multidimensionality of universal energy, I live in a perpetual experience of Source’s Light/Code in every moment, parallel to regular life’s circumstances, thoughts and feelings. The holographic nature of our reality was apparent to me from birth, and the exploration of that hologram became my life’s work.

I have studied science, history, archaeology and astronomy in Russia and in the U.S. and have a BFA degree from the Art Institute of Boston. I am an autodidact in anatomy and biology, nuclear physics, archaeology, ancient history and mythology, metaphysics and Theosophy. I now live in Maine with my husband, and have a company called Pravda, Inc. (which means “truth” in Russian). For over twenty years now, using my ability to see and read energy, I help people figure out solutions to many life’s challenges through my books, seminars, and private sessions. Read more from Eugenia HERE.
