What
inspired us to write Slivers of Glass?
by
Janet Elizabeth Lynn and Will Zeilinger
We knew we wanted to write a noir
style story but we were stumped as to the location until we attended a wedding
in California's Sonoma Valley. Our hotel was located near an ancient round barn
just north of Santa Rosa. The dilapidated
structure intrigued us. Every time we drove by the barn we mentioned that it
was an interesting place. One day we
snuck in behind the fence and walked around the outside. Slowly our story began
to unfold. Characters popped into our heads with personalities, and events. To learn more about the area, we visited the
historical society and museums. It's history fascinated us to the point we
began to take photographs of the barn. We couldn't stop talking about the
stories, characters, and events floating around in our heads. Before we left
for home we pulled out our laptops and began to put down ideas.
The results- SLIVERS OF
GLASS and an inspiring experience for both of us.
