In last week's Thursday Thoughts we talked about winning. Well today, I'd like to talk to you about the idea of contests.
What is it about a contest that thrills us?
Is it the possibility of winning something, anything--even if it's something we don't really want, need or can even use?
Is it the chance of getting something we really want for free instead of just going ahead and buying it?
Or is it simply our basic human nature of competition?
For authors and artists, is entering your work in a contest a chance for validation?
Perhaps its a combination of all of the above, but most of us enjoy a good contest. We must beware however, that our focus in life doesn't become a crap shoot of good when we're winning and bad if we aren't.
