Saturday Spotlight: Christine Lindsay & Londonderry Dreaming

Good Morning Friends,

It is my pleasure to bring to you a brand new title from Pelican Book Group / White Rose Publishing's brand new "Passport to Romance" series by one of our brand new authors!

Although Christine Lindsay is published elsewhere, Londonderry Dreaming is her debut PBG title!

Acclaimed New York artist, Naomi Boyd, and music therapist, Keith Wilson, loved one another five years ago, until her grandfather separated them.
That root of bitterness keeps them apart until a letter from Keith’s grandmother, Ruth, draws Naomi to Londonderry to find she’s too late. Ruth has passed on. After the death of his beloved grandmother, Keith has also come to Londonderry only to open the door to his past . . .Naomi...beautiful as ever, the girl who broke his heart.

A mysterious painting in Ruth’s attic brings up questions about their grandparents’ entwined past and their own broken romance. More comfortable with the unspoken languages of art and music, Naomi and Keith find it difficult to share their old hurts and true feelings.

Will the majestic coastline of Northern Ireland inspire them to speak the words to bring peace to their grandparents’ memory and to rekindle love?

Londonderry Dreaming is available through White Rose Publishing!

Christine Lindsay was born in Ireland, and is proud of the fact that she was once patted on the head by Prince Philip when she was a baby. Her great grandfather, and her grandfather—yes father and son—were both riveters on the building of the Titanic. Tongue in cheek, Christine states that as a family they accept no responsibility for the sinking of that great ship.

It was stories of her ancestors who served in the British Cavalry in Colonial India that inspired her Multi-award-winning, historical series Twilight of the British Raj. Book 1 Shadowed in Silk, Book 2 Captured by Moonlight, and Christine is currently writing the final installment of that series called Veiled at Midnight to be released August 2014.

Londonderry Dreaming, Christine’s romance novella set in N. Ireland releases Feb. 21, 2014.

Aside from being a busy writer and speaker, Christine is also VP of Christian Authors’ Network. She makes her home in British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada with her husband and their grown up family. Her cat Scottie is chief editor on all Christine’s books.

Thursday Thoughts: Guest post by Jayne E Self

Good Morning Friends!

Today I bring to you a special blog post by my friend and fellow author, Jayne Self....

Lines in the Sand

Lines are a fact of life. Some are absolute—the values and rules that stand true no matter what happens. Others are conditional. They change with the situation.

As a parent, it doesn’t take long to realize situations aren’t static. And it’s easy to get caught in an escalating battle of wills if you don’t recognize the difference between absolute lines and conditional ones.

Here’s a truth I’ve learned.
If you draw a line in the sand you have to enforce it
If you’re not willing to enforce it, don’t draw the line

Of course, if a child violates a line because they’re unaware it exists, that’s not their fault. Parents need to make expectations clear.

But, in our home, once the line was clearly designated, adherence was mandatory. Unless…

According to child behaviorist, Barbara Coloroso, “If it isn’t life threatening, and it isn’t morally threatening, it’s negotiable.”

Life threatening.
Morally threatening.
Those are the absolutes.
All other rules are conditional.

From an early age, I taught my children, if they were unhappy with a ruling I made, they could challenge it. If their arguments were reasonable, and expressed respectfully, I would rethink my initial decree.

Most lines in life are conditional.

We hurt ourselves and those around us every time we fail to recognize the difference between absolutes and conditionals. Sadly, we Christians seem especially susceptible to this error. We love God so much, we want to follow His rules. We love others and want them to follow His rules, too. To help them, we nit-pick, criticize, judge, and condemn. We focus on the conditionals, often completely missing the absolutes.

In New Testament times, the Jewish Pharisees made a lifestyle out of following rules. They loved the lines laid out in the scriptures because they believed knowing and following those lines made them special.

People have the same attitude today. Follow God’s rules and you’ll be part of the in crowd.

But if our adherence to those lines violates God’s absolutes, we must re-examine your stand.

What are God’s absolutes?

…What does the LORD require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah: 6:8

Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22: 37-39 NIV

Love, justice, humility and mercy—absolutes so basic anyone can know and follow them.

Tuesday Treasure: Angels

Good Morning Friends,

Back in June (2013) I shared a post with you on Divine Help in which I mentioned Archangel Gabriel. Since that time I've been more and more drawn and fascinated by angels.

Now before we go off on a tangent, I am not worshiping angels above God or Jesus but the Bible does tell us that God has given His angels charge over us (Psalm 91), so I'd like to get to know them better.  In fact, the Bible is filled with scriptures about angels so I don't think God minds that I pursue knowledge and connection with them.

Anyway...today I'd like to share with you two books I'm reading by Doreen Virtue.

Dr. Doreen Virtue's life changed dramatically when angels miraculously warned her and then intervened during a carjacking. After her angelic encounter, Doreen began asking the angels for additional guidance. They answered her requests with very clear and loving words. She writes of how the angelic guidance affected her work as a psychotherapist:
"I began helping my counseling clients to hear their own angels. Very quickly, I discovered that the healing power of the angels exceeds any form of 'man-made' therapy I had ever witnessed. The angels have wonderful gifts from God to impart to us.
"The angels have a different way of seeing ordinary situations. Their messages help us heal our beliefs and thoughts, transforming them into empowering and loving viewpoints. They teach us how to use our spiritual senses to see, hear, feel, and know the real world that transcends the illusory world's problems."
Angel Therapy can be purchased at Amazon in Print or for Kindle & Barnes and Noble in Print and for Nook!

Bestselling author, Doreen Virtue, brings you this enlightening book on connecting with your inner calling; recognition of your higher purpose; and spiritual power for healing. Doreen describes her innate spiritual gifts, such as psychic communication and spiritual healing abilities. She tells us how we all have these innate gifts, and provides The Lightworker's Way as a guidebook on how to bring these abilities to fruition. The Lightworker's Way will help you to set your spirit free, teaching you how to have miracles in your life as an everyday experience. It tells you how to divinely plan your life, heighten your psychic receptivity, open your third eye, make peace with God, and much, much, more.

The Lightworker's Way can be purchased at Amazon in print and for Kindle & Barnes and Noble in print and for Nook.

I have learned so much from these books that I am now on my second reading of The Lightworker's Way!

Even if you don't feel called to spiritual work, these books serve to enlighten you in so many ways I highly recommend reading them.

Until later...take care, God bless and remember....There are angels among us!

Speaking of Angles...don't forget I have a short romantic story about God answering a prayer for a human angel :-)

Single mom Cathy Johnson is tired of running her life alone...what she needs is a well-trained angel to help out. Jared Savoy gave up the dream of having a family when he discovered he is sterile. Can a confirmed bachelor and the mother of four find love amid normal daily chaos?

Cathy's Angel can be purchased for Kindle or at Pelican Book Group!

Fleeing a secret that changed her life forever, Judith Robertson decides she can live in the little cabin in the woods that she inherited from her grandfather. The big barn and the quaint little church just add to the allure of the four hundred acres of her new home. Within minutes of her decision, Reverend Washington asks to use her church building, and Jacob Fraser wants to cut a deal to timber the woods Judith now owns. But arsonists are burning African-American churches and threatening anyone who dares to intervene. Judith loans her church to the recently burned out members of the All Faith Community Church, which brings troubles beyond anything she ever imagined. And Jacob Fraser is everywhere, causing a heart she'd thought was stone cold dead to flutter with emotions she had lost a long time ago. But Jacob has secrets, too.  Can two heartbroken people gain the courage to challenge the status quo and accept the Lord's blessings?

EXCERPT
Jacob Fraser aimed the stream of high-pressure water toward the burning roof of All Saints Community Church. This was the fourth church fire he and the other volunteer firefighters had fought, and his heart sank lower with each fire. Someone was intentionally destroying places of worship.
He glanced at the familiar faces in the huddled groups of onlookers. Arsonists liked to watch their handiwork. Was one of his neighbors the culprit? Maybe it was George Hampton, his old Boy Scout leader, or Marvin Simpson, his Little League baseball coach. Maybe he didn’t know the people of Piney Meadow as well as he thought.
Henry Washington, the pastor of the church, stood in front of a separate group of bystanders. His dark skin glowed in the firelight, but the brightness of his dark eyes was more than mere reflection. Was it anger, righteous indignation, or something more that ignited the fire inside the African American pastor? Henry raised his Bible toward the flames and his congregation gathered around him. Some embraced and others cried, but most stood in silence, their backs straight and their gazes fixed on their suffering church.
Above the roar of the fire, Jacob heard voices singing a familiar chorus:
“Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms. Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.”
Jacob’s heart swelled with admiration. The fire might destroy their building, but their faith was strong.
What have I to dread, what have I to fear, Leaning on the everlasting arms?”
A second truck from a neighboring community arrived, but there was no saving the All Saints Community Church. Jacob and the other firefighters could contain the blaze, but the church was beyond rescue.
At last Chief Dutton gave the order to turn off the hoses. While Jacob’s team stowed the equipment, other volunteers raked through the charred ruins, putting out hotspots.
The county sheriff, Vince Miller, clapped Jacob on the shoulder. “Good job keeping the fire contained.”
“We were lucky there’s so little wind tonight.”
“Is Chief Dutton around?”
“I saw him just a few minutes ago.” Jacob scanned the area, then pointed to a man talking into a radio. “There he is.”
. The chief raised one hand in acknowledgement and strolled toward Jacob and the sheriff. Sheriff Miller shook hands with the other man. “What do you think, Emmett?”
“Same as the others. It burned too fast to be anything other than an accelerant.” Chief Dutton removed his wire-rimmed glasses and wiped his sooty face with a bandana. “When are you going to call in the cavalry?”
“Already done it. The FBI is sending a special agent from the hate crime task force.”
Chief Dutton let out a low grunt. “Hate crimes in Piney Meadow. Didn’t think I’d ever live to see the day.”
Jacob’s stomach churned as he removed his heavy firefighter’s jacket. Four churches in three months, all belonging to African American congregations, and now the FBI was coming. What was happening to his hometown? Piney Meadow had always been a place where neighbors could live and work without the threat of violence. He’d needed just such a haven after his stint with the Houston Police Department. Now crime menaced his refuge as sure as a nest of copperheads.

From the Ashes is available from Pelican Book Group.

Thursday Thoughts: Love....

Well since tomorrow is Valentine's Day I think I'll just share with you an excerpt from my devotional, Love is a Rose....

As you know this devotional parallels God's love and the Christian life to the words of the song, The Rose written by Amanda McBroom and performed by Conway Twitty and Bette Midler. Here are the lyrics...

Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless, aching need
I say love, it is a flower, and you its only seed
It’s the heart, afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking, that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give
And the soul, afraid of dying, that never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love in the spring becomes the rose

This excerpt is from verse 4....I say love, it is a flower, and you its only seed...

Faith is a seed that blossoms into flowers of hope and joy. The Bible says that, "God's word will not come back void."
We are told to plant seeds of faith, water them with prayer, fertilize them with hope and watch with joy as they blossom into flowers of blessing.
Matthew 17:20 tells us that if we have faith as a mustard seed we can move mountains.
Galatians 3:29 says that if we are Christ’s, then we are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Therefore, no prayer goes unheard or unanswered. What we must realize is that God's answer may not always be what we think it should be.
When we get intimate with the Lord and learn His ways, we'll see our seeds of faith blossom and grow into rose gardens of blessings because when we're intimate with Him and know His ways, our prayers will be in alignment with His will for our lives.
God is happy to grant our prayers and bless our lives if we "ask in faith and believe that you receive." But remember God will give "good things to those who ask" He will not grant you something you think would be a blessing but would ultimately be for your ruin!
Some wise soul once said, "Sometimes God withholds our answer until we have gained the knowledge, acquired the wisdom, or formed the character to appreciate what He has chosen to bless us with."
Think about it!  Would you rather get what you "want" or what He wants for you?
Knowing God as the generous, loving, Father He is, it is more prudent to have what He gives because only He knows what's best for us, and when we understand this our lives will be simpler and much more peaceful.
Many of us have a dream of where we’ll go and what we’ll do when we get the perfect job, retire, or hit the big jackpot, thinking life will be better “once I get there.” God calls us to “bloom where we’re planted.” Believing something else, or someone new, or some other place will make us happy, will only lead to discontent.
Happiness comes from within and one of the quickest ways to true bliss is to get over yourself and sow joy and happiness into someone else’s life! This is such a simple thing…a phone call, email, note, letter or card. Even a simple smile can brighten someone’s day. Make sharing love, peace and joy a priority in your life and watch dreams become reality and miracles happen.

Seeds to ponder: God is love. If love is a flower, and you its only seed—how can you plant seeds of love and faith into the lives of others?

Prayer: Dear Lord, You said, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me” AND “Inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.” Please help me to see the good I do and that which I don’t and to strive in all things to show Your love, mercy and grace unto the least of my brethren.

Love is a Rose is available in print with pages for reflection for only $5.99 and for Kindle, Nook and @ Smashwords for only $0.99!

As you remember those you love this Valentine's Day....let's not forget the ONE who loved us first and most...

VL. Virgin Lips. You may not have heard of it, but where I live, it's a thing with a card, even if it is a figurative card. I was Brooklyn Hamlin, certified virgin lips, and I planned on clinging to that figurative card with all I had--while dating as many of the hottest guys at school as I could.
Maybe that's a bit strange. I mean, what teenage girl isn't interested in kissing? Locking lips definitely interested me, but the drama that came with it didn't. No kissing, no drama. Simple.
But on my sixteenth birthday, on my first real date even, the drama found me. His name was Luke Graham--cute, funny, and bad news for the whole female race.

In real life, she's given up on the fairy tale ending...
After having her heart broken twice, Alicia Dayne has sworn off men, decided to concentrate on her career, and is delighted to win a lucrative contract to make a commercial for Highborn Mattresses.
She could make the most awesome fairy tale commercial ever--except for Jonas Highborn, who isn't exactly thrilled with her Princess and the Pea ideas, and really doesn't want a prince in tights representing his company.
Though he's trying to keep his grieving mother happy by letting her have charge of the commercial shoot, and though Alicia's trying to keep in mind that this annoying guy is her boss for the moment, they can't seem to keep from clashing.
Throw in an overly-handsome prince, a matchmaking mama, and a stunning rose garden, and maybe, just maybe, Alicia can be convinced they have a chance at something real.
Because while she might not be a real princess, sometimes an ordinary girl's got to take a chance, even when it seems too good to be true.
When did Happily Ever After become so complicated?

Especially when she discovers her old teenage crush, Luke Carney, is one of the bachelors and it's up to the viewers--not her--to decide which bachelors stay or go. Coerced into participating, Taycee does what any self-preserving girl would do. She launches a subtle attack on Luke's good name with the hope of getting him voted off the show. Unfortunately, Luke's an eye-for-an-eye kind of guy, and when he discovers what she's up to, it means revenge.

Ellie Garrett never planned on being a divorced, single mother—she also never planned to get married again. Ever. Her ordinary life changes when the house across the street is sold. The new owner is Nick Coulter—quarterback and MVP for the Sacramento Defenders. Oh yeah, he’s also one of People magazine’s top 100 most beautiful people and America’s most eligible bachelor. So why would she pick him to have her first crush on since her divorce?
Recently retired from the NFL, Nick is more than ready to find a wife and start a family. He's tired of his high-profile lifestyle and moves to Pleasant Wood, Colorado, hoping to finally settle down and focus on his foundation Kids Come First. It would just feel nice to be a normal guy. Of course being rebuffed by Ellie the first few times he meets her makes him feel a little too normal.
As Nick and Ellie become acquainted, their mutual attraction is hard to ignore. But Ellie’s been hurt before by her womanizing ex-husband. She’s not sure that Nick has left behind his playboy reputation. Can she risk falling in love with the celebrity football player or will she miss her chance at scoring big in the game of love?

When Kayla Shaw travels to Bogotá to help renovate a house for a mission to street children, nothing can prepare her for the ever-present mission employee Mateo Luis. He looks like he could be one of the rebels who have caused so much fear throughout Colombia. Then she begins to see him with her heart instead of only her eyes.

Mateo Luis Gómez Días has dedicated his life to the mission, and he's determined to help as many street children as he can. Unfortunately, he can't keep his thoughts off the beautiful American helping renovate the new children's home. Although he would love to have a relationship with Kayla, his past and the bad neighborhood God has called him to serve in prevent him from pursuing her.

Has God truly led Kayla and Mateo to each other, or does He have something else in mind for their lives?

Excerpt

Kayla’s gaze drifted to the door as an older woman hurried in with a piece of cardboard in her hand. The woman looked over and held up the sign with a questioning look—Shaw Restoration.

Relief washed over Kayla as she returned the woman’s smile and nodded. “Our ride’s here.”

She led the way over to the woman. “Hi, I’m Kayla Shaw, and this is Angie Martin and Paul Reed. We’re the group from Shaw Restoration.”

“I am Maria Santiago Uribe de Ramírez, wife of Pastor Carlos Ramírez Ochoa. Please forgive me for being late,” the woman said in heavily accented English. “The bus did not want to start, and Mateo Luis had to fix it before we could come.”

“I understand,” Kayla assured her.

“My husband sends his apologies for not being here, but he was called away by an emergency.” Maria lifted a hand toward the exit. “Come. Mateo is waiting to take us to the mission.”

As soon as Kayla saw the rusty, ancient bus with the mission name scrawled in faded blue paint across the side, she completely understood why Maria had been late. The vehicle looked as if it would take a miracle to get it to run, and Kayla made a mental note to contact the missions committee of the church she attended with her father. Perhaps they could raise enough to fix up the bus or possibly buy a newer one. The mission needed reliable transportation, and their current bus appeared to be far from it.

A swarthy-skinned man stepped out of the open door of the vehicle, and Kayla’s heart leapt into her throat. His dark, brooding eyes scanned the group, his stance wary as he took them in. A scar down the left side of his face made him look even more menacing than the heavy, dark stubble shadowing his face.

Maria stepped up beside him with a warm smile. “This is Mateo Luis. He works for the mission, so you will likely see him often. Mateo, this is Kayla, Angie, and Paul.”

Kayla struggled to find her voice, certain it was her responsibility as team leader to respond. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

He nodded, his gaze drifting over her. “If you will move to the back of the bus, we can load your luggage.”

As they followed him, Kayla noticed a slight limp in his walk. She felt a small twinge of guilt for judging him by his appearance alone. Since he worked for the mission, he was probably a very nice guy, even if he did look as scary as the rebels she’d seen in news reports. Perhaps his limp had been caused by the violence that had gripped Colombia for several decades. That could explain his wariness and the scar on his face as well.

Still, a little wariness of her own until she knew him better wouldn’t be amiss.
