#SaturdaySpotlight is on Sloan McBride & The Treasure

Good Morning and a COLD one it is here in SW LA!

I hope you're warm and cozy wherever you are. I'm doing my best to stay comfortable. Laundry is going, sitting with grand babies (although 15 & 10 deem then no longer 'babies' LOL!) and bringing you the latest Saturday Spotlight. If you're a subscriber to my newsletter, watch for a very special announcement Monday the 11th (and here's a quick SALUTE to all Veterans and their families out there!!) .... lots of new stuff coming so if you're not a subscriber, join now.

Also, the huge, Thankful for Our Readers giveaway ends tomorrow so enter the contest today.

I introduced Sloan McBride to you last month on Wednesday Words with Friends. Today she gives us a peek into her novel, The Treasure.

Take it away Sloan!

‘A Pirate’s Life for Me,’ that is Celeste’s plan. Revenge drives her to be daring. Attacks by smoke demons, and the appearance of a swashbuckling rogue—a handsome rogue with magickal powers—detracts her from the mission and reveals frightening truths about her family.

Orion is a time walker—a protector of the human race—and warrior against the Underworld King and his minions. The shadowy creatures seek the young woman who has the blood of the gods running through her veins. Orion senses something mysterious—and wrong—in Celeste’s blood.

Time Walker law dictates no interaction with humans, but Orion can’t stay away. Celeste has the uncanny ability to draw demons and time walkers, alike. To protect her, Orion must keep her hidden from the Underworld and his own people. Should the gods discover her secret, they will destroy her, and he won’t let that happen.

Excerpt: “My blood?” Celeste squeaked.

“It’s what draws them to you.” They approached a house on vast private land. He grabbed her arm. “Wait.”

Orion released the cinch on his powerful senses. When certain of no immediate danger he said, “Let’s get inside.”

“What do you mean my blood draws them?”

He heard Celeste’s heartbeat quicken, smelled the sweat beading on her skin.

A sharp knock had the door opening to a startled elderly man. Orion quickly drew a sword.
Rushing to the man’s side Celeste cried, “No! Rafael is family to me.”

Orion sheathed his weapon, turned, and latched the door. To the gentleman he said, “Go through and check the entire place to make sure all the windows and doors are secured.”

“Please do as he asks, Rafael.”

Rafael frowned, but left to carry out the duties.

“This way,” she said and led him to a quiet room. “Please be seated.” She settled herself on a padded chair, hands fidgeting in her lap. “So tell me about these soldiers.”

This human knew more than she should. The go’ras—mind swipe—erased memories or at least that was its function. Yet it had not worked on her. “You never explained why you were aboard a pirate vessel dressed as a boy.”

“’Tis business of my own.”

Evasion and more nervousness. His long legs carried him around the room as he examined the fine wooden furniture, the elaborate paisley curtains, and fingered petals of flowers flowing from a vase on the table. One hand held a sculpted dagger with precise balance, and a specially crafted blade. He tossed it in the air catching the handle every time.

In French, he said, “I hear a French accent when you speak. Is that where you were raised?”

She rose. “Why do you expect answers and yet give none yourself?”

“It may be important.” He strode to her, stopping with only inches separating them. The dagger flipped in the air. The heat from her body seeped through the silk fabric of his shirt. Her blood seduced him in ways he’d never experienced.

Flip. Flip.

“Must you continue tossing that knife? It unnerves me,” she said.

“Your scent is unusual.” He reached up and released the comb tangled in her hair. The long curly tresses fell to delicate shoulders. He grabbed a handful and brought it to his nose. It was not human hair. A wig? Curious.

Breathlessly, she said, “What are you doing?”

He dropped the hair and with the same hand caressed her cheek. “Trying to discern what makes you so alluring.” He leaned forward and brushed the side of her neck with his nose and lips. A gut-wrenching need roared to life, encouraging him to rid their bodies of barriers and delve into the forbidden.

“I do not understand.”

Frowning, he said, “Neither do I.” He pulled back, needing the distance to think clearly.
This was a damnably odd situation. He flipped the dagger end over end. She was a direct descendant of Lord Sin, the Moon God. The blood scent was strong and it flowed with mysticism and magick.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all.  Okay, the answer was never me, but a girl can dream, can't she?  I grew up with fairytales and happy ever after, so it stands to reason that when I write, I make sure my characters have their happy ending.  It may not always be what you'd expect, but it works for them.

I write romance, no doubt about it.  I can't imagine writing anything else.  I'm a hopeless romantic, or a hopeful one.  Either way, readers get the hope.

My books delve into the paranormal romance, romantic suspense, time travel, gypsies, tramps, and thieves.  Oh sorry, I went off into my music zone for a minute.  I have fantasy, mythology, and I try to make it all relate to the everyday.

Thanks for your interest.  Happy Reading!!!!

#WednesdayWordswithFriends Guest: Sloan McBride

Good Morning!

Well, fall fell here in SW LA...for now anyway we are enjoying cooler nights and milder days and I am SO happy about that! I'm more of a Summer person but I'm d-o-n-e with high 90's that feel like triple digits!

I hope you enjoyed DiAnn's visit yesterday and the treasure she shared. Today's guest is new to me and our blog so without much further ado please welcome Sloan McBride to share a few words with us....

So a couple of weeks ago I moved my daughter to Tennessee.  She is a writer, but her first love is music so she combines her writing and her music. I support both my children in absolutely everything they do and always try to find a positive, bright side to anything.  No matter how much you want them to succeed, and how proud you are of them for trying it’s hard not to miss them terribly when they are gone.  If I had my way (and all the money in the world) I’d own many acres of land where I’d build a plantation-type house (I don’t need anything too BIG), and houses for my kids. We’d have an animal preserve with a huge lake (and slide for the penguins), and full film studio (for my son).  But, alas, that’s a pipe dream.  You have to let them go out into the world and live their lives.

This is the link to my book page on my website where all my books are along with links to all the sites where they are available in every format.  https://sloanmcbride.com/books.html

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Dana Littlejohn & Tri-Romance

Good Morning Friends,

It's been a busy week and only going to get busier as Medicare AEP comes up next month. We've had several days of rain and our friends in SE TX are flooding again....much like they did with Hurricane Harvey. Please keep them in your prayers.

Today's guest is new to me and brought to us by Personalized Marketing Inc. so please give Dana Littlejohn, author of sensual, erotic romance a huge welcome!

Twin sisters, Opal and Pearl Jefferson, and their best friend Debra Flores were living blissfully by their no strings attached rule, enjoying the many comforts of a good life. All was well in their world until Frank, Jake, Doug and Rakim entered into it. When one of the girls abandons their well practiced rule and falls in love, does her decision throw a monkey wrench into the lives of everyone else around her? Or does it open up the possibility for love to capture them all?

Excerpt: Opal spotted Doug coming from the floor, but tried not to smile. The braids fit his head nicely. They made the almond shape of his eyes and cute rounded ears stand out more.

“So, what do you think?” he asked leaning across the counter.

“It looks great. Debbie always does a good job.”

“I’ll be in the car, man. See ya, Opal.”

“Bye, Rakim, remember what I said.”

Doug nodded at him then returned his attention to Opal. “Okay, maybe I should rephrase the question. What I meant was, how do you like the braids on me? How do you like me in the braids? How about just me, by myself? Do you like me?"

She chuckled. “You want to know all that?”

He laughed, too, a throaty, sexy sound that kept the smile on her face when she heard it.

“Well, maybe not all of that. How about just this one: will you go out with me?”

“I don’t know you, Doug.”

“I’m trying to change that, baby girl, if you give me the chance. Let me take you out so you can get to know me. People who know me like me, you know.” He flashed that beautiful smile again.

“They do, huh?”

“Yeah, girl. Come on, let me show you.”

“Well…”

He came to the other side of the counter and pulled her up. “Will ‘please’ help my case?” he whispered.

He held her firmly by the waist, pulling her closer. She put her hands on his chest to push herself back. The firmness of his torso excited her.

“Umm, okay.” She reached over to pull a business card from the desk and handed it to him. “Call me and we’ll set something up.”

He smiled again, dazzling her one more time. “Awesome, I‘ll do that.” Letting her go, he pulled a pair of shades from his top pocket and put the card in its place. He gave her a wink and walked toward the door.

“Doug…”

He stopped holding the door open and slid the glasses in place.

“You do look good in your braids, much better than that poof you started with,” she said with a teasing smile.

This book is sensual and erotic. NC 17 rating and can be purchased directly from Dana who is going to tell us a little more about herself in her own words....

Writing has always been a part of me...in my blood, my soul. As a child I wrote hickory dickory dock type poetry as i doodled on my papers in school. By the time I got to middle school I was writing full stories in weekly installments to entertain my friends.
I continued to write over the years but life and family took over. When my children grew up and moved out I had time to write again. I wrote my first real novel in 2003 and got it published in 2006. I haven't stopped writing and I don't plan to.

Come along on the wild ride through my imagination. You will not regret it!

#ThursdayThoughts Guest post / #EggcerptExchange with Linda McLaughlin

Good Morning Friends!

Today is the first of our EggCerpt Exchange features!

Our guest, Linda McLaughlin (aka: @Lyndi Lamont) has shared thoughts and treasures and been in our spotlight before, so please give her a warm welcome back!

Grief is Like an Ocean…

"Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is
calm & sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim." - Vicki Harrison

I love this quote. I can't think of a more apt analogy for grief than an ocean.

Grief begins with a shock akin to an earthquake of epic proportions, followed by a tsunami of emotions: disbelief, denial, anger, guilt, and above all an overwhelming sadness that engulfs your whole being. It takes a while for the tsunami to recede, leaving you feeling adrift in a turbulent ocean.

After a while, the turbulence decreases and there are periods of smooth sailing, but like the ocean, grief is seemingly endless and unpredictable. There will be squalls during which we experience what the professionals call a STUG: a short, temporary upsurge of grief. And sometimes there are storms of emotion. These usually occur at some pivotal moment: a holiday, a birthday, an anniversary, when thoughts of the lost loved one are impossible to deny or keep at bay.

And then the ocean smooths out again and we go back to living moment to moment, waiting for... we know not what. Does grief ever end? Not really, though the storms and squalls diminish over time until the loved one becomes a cherished memory rather than an open wound of the heart.

My heroine in Lily and the Gambler is still mourning the death of her lover when she arrives in California to start a new life.

Wow, Linda, never heard of STUG but I know exactly what you mean! Please tell us a little more about Lily & the Gambler your Sensual Western Historical Romance

Respectability is in the eye of the beholder. Or so Lily Penhallow hopes when she assumes the guise of the widow Albright. She has learned the price of flaunting convention and is determined to obey society's rules from now on. After her lover, Nigel Albright, was killed in a duel over a card game, Lily dons widow’s weeds and travels to Grass Valley, California where she plans to marry the man her uncle works for, a respectable mine owner named Hugh Ogilvie. Then, on the riverboat from San Francisco, she meets Creighton 'King' Callaway, a professional gambler, just the kind of man she should avoid.

King believes that since life is a gamble, there's no point in planning for the future. You have to trust Lady Luck. After meeting Lily, King knows he has found his Queen of Hearts. But can he convince her to pass up a sober businessman for a foot-loose card sharp?

Only Lady Luck knows for sure...

Excerpt:

Callaway looked at her curiously. “Were you married long?”
“We were together for five years,” Lily said. Her words were true as far as they went. She hoped Mr. Callaway wouldn’t ask too many questions about her husband. It still astonished her that she had told more lies since she became respectable than in her entire unconventional life.
“You must miss him.”
“Yes,” she said, swallowing the lump that suddenly lodged in her throat. Unwelcome tears sprang to her eyes and spilled onto her cheeks. She blinked rapidly to stop the tears.
Mr. Callaway pulled out his handkerchief and dabbed at her face. “Better now?”
“Yes. Please forgive me for breaking down. I’m usually not weepy.”
He gave her a reassuring smile. “No apology necessary. You suffered a terrible loss. I admire your strength and determination.”
“Do you?”
“Yes, ma’am. And your pretty blue eyes.”
She felt a blush heat her cheeks, but had to smile. “Are you flirting with me, sir?”
“I’m giving it my best shot,” he said with a grin that quickly faded. “Mrs. Albright, I know this is none of my business, but I don’t think it wise for you to travel alone. I doubt your husband would have approved.”
Lily turned back to stare at the sea of stars above, seeming almost within reach. Would Nigel approve of what she was doing? Yes, she decided. He’d been the consummate adventurer. He wouldn’t have expected her to live the rest of her life wrapped in cotton wool. And his death had given her greater freedom than she’d ever known. It was both frightening and exhilarating.
Creighton Callaway seemed to take her silence for agreement. “Please, at least allow me to see you safely on the train.”
Lily spun around to stare at him. “And in return?”
He spread his hands. “I expect nothing in return but the pleasure of your company. I have a widowed mother and sister. If either one was forced to travel alone, I would worry.”
Ah, so he thought women were too weak to take care of themselves. A typical male notion. “I’ve gotten this far on my own, Mr. Callaway, and my journey is almost over.”
“Mrs. Albright, you are not in England anymore. I grant you California is more civilized than it was twenty years ago, but it’s not what you are used to.”
Lily thought about the men she’d seen wearing gun belts and suppressed a shudder. Perhaps she should accept his offer. Once she reached Grass Valley and Uncle Arthur, she need never see the man again.
“I suppose you have a point, and I’d appreciate help with my trunks and sewing machine. Very well, Mr. Callaway. I place myself in your capable hands.” The image of his hands on her skin sent a shiver through her, but she suppressed the notion. The last person she needed in her life now was another gambler.

#ThursdayThoughts Fall #RomanticTravel with Anita Philmar

Good Morning Friends!

Today we welcome Anita Philmar back to our blog, this time as part of the Fall Romantic Travel blog exchange.

Anita has been here several times in the past, for other blog exchanges so she is no stranger to us. Although her normal genre is erotic romance, today Anita and I are pleased to bring to your attention a brand new collection of sweet to sensual cowboy ghost stories.

Sounds like a whole other country right LOL!

Anyway without further ado....here's Anita....

I believe visiting wineries is a great way to have a short romantic escape. Almost every state has a few and most are affordable, running anywhere from free to $20 for a tasting.

While in Nebraska where McKee’s Ghost story takes place, I had a chance to visit a few. As you can see by the picture, it’s a great to unwind and relax.

~*~  ~*~  ~*~

Nebraska is certainly on my "to visit" list Anita!

Now let's find out a little more about Anita's contribution to this collection, The Good, The Bad and the Ghostly.....

Blurb for McKee’s Ghost

His fiancée called off their engagement after be accosted by a ghost in his house.

Now, a beautiful ghost detective has shown up at his ranch, saying his brother has hired her to take care of the unwanted spirit.

Konnor McKee is more than happy with PSI Agent Ruth Oliva Wilson. One look and he was hooked. Now, if he can only get some help from a ghost, he might be able to secure himself a bride after all.

With the return of his ex-fiancee, his life is turn upside down by an angry ghost, a vindictive woman and a sexy medium. Konnor doesn’t know which way to turn.

Can he get everyone out of this alive and marry the PSI Agent?

Or has he lost all hope of a happy future because of the ruthless ghost of one of his ancestors?

Excerpt:

Somehow, Konnor must have realized her inability to stand. Because one minute, Ruth stood before him, the next he’d swept her up in his embrace. “My, but you are a tiny thing.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck and worked to clear her vision while her head still spun in circles. “What are you doing?”

“Carrying you upstairs. A pint-sized woman like you must be exhausted from your trip. What time did you start out?” Konnor walked up the stairs without giving her a chance to demand that he release her.

Her gaze narrowed in on the strong column of his neck. The word determined joined the stubborn tag she’d used to describe him. Nonetheless, she appreciated his assistance. The ache in her feet eased, and she snuggled closer, letting his strength revive hers. Still the man was being awful forward. She needed to remind him she expected to be treated as a professional, not his lover. “I’m not exactly sure when the train left Omaha, they were running late.”

“Omaha?” He paused outside a doorway and released her legs. Her body swung against his. He tightened his hold on her waist and drew her into his chest. “That means you’ve been traveling all day.”

“Yes, after I got to Shelton. I managed to get a ride with a couple who let me off about two or three miles down the road from your house.” She recalled the older man and his wife. They had encouraged her to go home with them and pay a visit to Konnor tomorrow after she’d given herself an opportunity to rest. She smiled. “Mr. and Mrs. Stout. They said they didn’t live too far from here.”

“Yes, they have a place near my parents.” He continued to examine her. A frown formed on his mouth and brow, each leveling out into a straight line. “And I’m sure they stopped by there to tell them I have a visitor. Which means, we might have a problem when they find out you’re staying here alone with me.”

“Why? I’m here on assignment.” Ruth had run into this situation before and understood how her bunking at a client’s home inspired rumors. “It’s not like anything is going on between us. I’m a respected agent.”

He squeezed her tighter against his chest and lowered his head. His eyes alight with desire, he whispered against her lips, “Wrong. One look and I was smitten. Now, holding you in my arms, I’m ready—”

~*~  ~*~  ~*~

Hmmm....sounds pretty spicy to me! You can purchase The Good, The Bad and The Ghostly at Amazon.

Now let's find out a little more about Anita...

#TuesdayTreasure: #RockingSummerRomanceRead with @TinaGayle!

Good Morning Friends,

Today's treasure is, My Best Friend's Ex, a new release by Tina Gayle.....

She loved him first, but her best friend married him. Now, divorced Brooke must choose between her best friend and the man of her dreams.

Brooke Janson has loved Garrett Sawyer since she met him on her first day of high school. Now, he’s free to love her too.  Except, his ex-wife happens to be her best friend.
How can Brooke choose between a friend she’s known since kindergarten and the man her heart wants?

Excerpt:

“Hello, Brooke.”
Ignoring the sudden butterflies in her stomach, she waved a casual hand. “Hi, Garrett. It’s been awhile.”
“I believe it was just before Janet moved out, almost a year.”
“Janet told me about the divorce. I debated whether to call, but, well...I didn’t know what to say.” To cover her awkwardness, Brooke allowed the words to flow from her mouth as if she had vocal diarrhea. “I always considered you, my friend, too. We had such fun together.  I wanted to see if I could do anything for you, but I...”
Embarrassed by her rambling, she stared at the stuff in her cart; lettuce, fruit, protein bars, each one good for her.
Man, I need to pick up a box of cookies.
Forcing back the urge to binge on any tasty treat available, she recalled how his face lit up when he was excited, his deep belly laughter, and his willingness to listen when she had a problem.
Damn it, she didn’t blame him for the breakup. Well, maybe for not listening to her warning. She had told him that her friend had a natural tendency to throw responsibility to the wind. Still, Brook hadn’t wanted to take sides. Because it was incredibly hard to choose between two people she cared about, one a friend since kindergarten and the other the man of her dreams. Guilt sparked inside her.
Why? Did she still want more than just to be his friend? Was this her chance?
“Don’t worry, I’m over it now. I bought a house, which requires most of my time. I spent last weekend putting in a new hot-water heater. The old one leaked.” Garrett brushed a hand through his dark, curly hair. The silky strands fell back into place without distracting from the perfect picture he represented.

Sexy, hot, and totally off limits.

My Best Friend's Ex can be purchased at Amazon!

Tina Gayle grew up a dreamer and loved to escape into the world of books.

After years of working in the business world doing a variety of jobs, she decided to try her hand at writing and hope to incorporate the joy of being a mother into her books.

Currently working on a series about four executive wives, she is excited about combining elements of women fiction with the passion of romance. The  first  three books, “Marketing Exec’s Widow”, “IT Exec’s Baby” and now “CFO’s Affair” have all been released. The last one will be out next year.

Married twenty-five years, she and her husband love to travel and play golf.  She can’t wait for Mike to retire so they can do more of both.

Saturday Spotlight - Tory Richards aka Debbie Wallace

Good Morning Friends,

Well as usual life is in a whirlwind LOL! Since I returned from WA on the 18th I've....done bookkeeping, attended an Artist Fest with my books (met some WONDERFUL people, sold a few books & had a BLAST!), met another artist who has beautiful work and who is creating a possible cover for The Visionary, had a photo shoot with a photographer to update my picture for publicity (more on that later), and now I'm getting ready to head back to Bandera & the Silver Spur for a week. Since my Tempered series is set in Bandera, I'll have some time in Silver Spur's booth at "Celebrate Bandera Festival" so if you're in the area c'mon out and see us!

IMW, please welcome to our Saturday Spotlight, author Tory Richards who writes "Romance with an Attitude." (I like that tagline LOL!)

First, a little about Tory in her own words.....
I'm in my early fifties, am happily married, have one daughter and one granddaughter. And a niece who's like my second daughter. I honestly don't know what I'd do without any one of them. On top of writing, I work full time. Right now writing is a hobby for me. My goals are simple and realistic. By the time I retire I'll be happy if I'm just making enough "mad money" from it to be able to travel a little and spoil my grandchildren. I like to travel any place a cruise ship will take me. I don't like to fly but I will if I have to. I collect antiques, most especially crocks, and art. I love chocolate, (who doesn't?) And good coffee. I've wanted to be a writer since I was a kid, only life got in the way of my dreams. A few years ago I decided to get serious.

And now... The Senator's Daughter......

Most women kidnapped on the eve of their wedding would be devastated, but not Sophie. She's thankful for being rescued from marrying a millionaire she doesn't love. Besides, her abductor is a gorgeous hunk who makes her feel anything but frightened.

Brent can't believe he let Senator Adams talk him into kidnapping his daughter. Now he has a hellion on his hands, who's as clever as she is beautiful. He tries to convince himself she's not his type, but every time he touches her he can't deny the rush of sensation that leads straight to his loins, and then his heart. Soon he begins to question; can he let her go when it's over?

Excerpt: How in the world did he expect her to sleep with him lying next to her all night? She already felt the heat from their close proximity, reaching up to undo some of the top buttons of her shirt. She fluffed the material against her hot skin, thanking God for the cool air of the fan overhead.

In the end it wasn't enough. As Brent settled into an exhausted sleep, Sophie lay there burning up, listening to his soft snores and undoing yet another button, and another. She tried to inch away from his hot flesh but their handcuffed wrists prevented her from getting very far. She couldn't even roll onto her side, which was how she usually liked to sleep. She stilled for a second before fluffing her shirt again. What had she ever done to deserve this kind of torture? God, it was like a furnace…

"Will you be still!" Brent grumbled.

"I'm hot!" She whispered, defending herself.

"Well if you'd stopped wiggling you'd cool down. I'm hot too."

This was impossible, Sophie thought, squirming to get into a more comfortable position. She was frightened but more than that, she was aware of his closeness. He had no right, forcing her to sleep with him! He released a snort as she continued to twist and turn.

Her fingertips inadvertently brushed against his muscular thigh. She tried to pretend it didn't happen but that was like trying to pretend she wasn't a woman. Besides, now her fingertips were singed and worse, tingling.

"Damn it!" Brent barked losing control.

"I'm use to sleeping on my side," she said in her defense.

With a deep sigh that sounded more like a grumble of aggravation Brent rolled to his side, turning her with him so that when they were finally settled she was in the scooped out hollow provided by his body, with his arm around her. She gasped at his audacity, trying to scoot away but he yanked her back just as easily. "Now go to sleep!" he snarled against her ear.

Sophie grew stiff as a board, holding her breath, speechless with shock. The intimacy of their position terrified her. Their bare legs were touching from thigh to ankle. Oh dear Lord this was worse than anything she could have imagined! Everything at that moment became intensified. The warmth of his breath against her ear, stirring her hair. The rhythm of his heart as it beat against her back. His large hand resting against her belly, she could feel every one of his fingers.

Not until his soft, steady breathing indicated he'd fallen back to sleep was she able to finally relax. She could forget about cooling down now, she was hotter than ever, but at least she was on her side. Finally, after an agonizing hour of waiting for the unknown, her eyes began to drift shut and she sank into a welcome slumber.....

Oh my goodness - I'm blushing LOL! Talk about romance with an attitude.
