#WednesdayWordswithFriends welcomes.... Me!

Good Morning from Toledo Bend Lake!

We drove up on Sunday and have been enjoying some quiet time on the lake. Not much luck in fishing, although we hope to change that today before we head home. The RV will stay a couple of months which makes it much easier to travel back and forth to home.

You may have noticed in the side-bar already, that Tempered Truth releases on Monday, March 15th!

I shared an excerpt with you on Feb. 6th but just wanted to pop in and remind you to pre-order your copy today for only 99cents.

We're 20 days into the Lenten season. How are you doing with your practices?

I've managed to stick pretty close to my commitment to spend more quality time with God, but have realized this is something I should do more than just during Lent.

Have you come to that conclusion too?

What will you do about it?

Personally, I've rediscovered Rev. Jesse and Sister Cathy Duplantis and have found wonderful teachings through Total JDM that have helped me tremendously in studying the Word and fellowshipping with Jesus.

Check it out! I'm sure you'll find something to encourage you too.

Not much else to report, Friends. Just thought I'd pop in and encourage you to keep your faith and trust and to remember....In ALL things give HIM praise.

Until next time, take care and God bless.

#SaturdaySpotlight is on #EggcerptExchange

Good Afternoon!

I'm a bit late posting today. My scheduled guest was unable to get here and I didn't have time to improvise this morning but never fear.....We're spotlighting this year's Eggcerpt Exchange feature.

You've seen these before, where authors from one of my Authors Helping Authors groups share excerpts and other info from their books.

I'm hoping to have a guest for you next week so be sure and watch for the hashtag #EggcerptExchange and this graphic!

Also, Eggcerpt Exchange kicks of the Easter/Lenten season. If you're like many, Lent is a time of additional prayer, fasting and alms-giving.

With that in mind, if you're wanting to spend time with a special devotional or two, check out RED and I Thirst from Pelican Book Group and don't forget my very own devotional, Love is a Rose based on the lyrics to The Rose written by Amanda McBroom and performed by Bette Midler and Conway Twitty - which can be found at the following locations:

#TuesdayTreasure: Special Guest Post by Marilyn Leach

Good Morning!

Today is Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday for those who aren't sure what it means) which always ushers in the Lenten season. Today's guest, Marilyn Leach tells us why she treasures Lent...

Thanks, Pam, for having me on your Tuesday Treasure blog, especially this very special Tuesday.  Why is February 9, 2016 so special?  Many people are very aware, others have no notion.

Today, depending on what part of the world you’re in, is Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras Finale, or the last day of Carnival, or Pancake Tuesday.  And it’s followed by Ash Wednesday which signals the start of the liturgical season of Lent.  It is forty days of preparation in the run up to the celebration of Christendom’s grand Easter Sunday.

I’ve heard Lent, for the sake of illustration, described as our 40,000 mile spiritual tune up, much like our motor vehicle.  It’s an inspection of the engine, parts, and electrics to make sure everything is ship shape in Bristol fashion.  The vehicle can operate at its peak performance when tuned up.  So, what does that mean practically in our spiritual lives?

Lent is a time to do some spiritual inventory, to make sure “our engine is running smoothly.”

That’s not to say we don’t invest in daily maintenance.  Just as we gas up, wash the windshield, and buckle up, so too we have daily time to feed our spirit, keep our hearts clean, and seek God’s protective care.

My observance of the Lenten season has taken different forms at various times.  I’ve read a special book that dealt with an issue I was facing, a few pages daily, for all four weeks until it was completed.  One year I spent all four Saturday mornings to pray and read Scripture away from home in a quiet place.  It was a difficult challenge, and one of the most rewarding as well.  Memorizing Bible passages about Christian living birthed new fruitful actions.  I’ve also done more traditional observances.  I gave up drinking colas, which were affecting my energy highs and lows.  Forty days of no cola was replaced with flavored seltzer, fruit slices added, which I found refreshing.  It has become my favorite cold drink.  Many times, my Lenten disciplines have become life affirming habits.

Lent can be a time of genuine enrichment, a real treasure, when we do a little inspection and repair work.  It’s good to do a full tune up.  The Lenten season is all about being in good running order.  By Easter our celebration can be “on the nose,” our spiritual engines purring like kittens.

Have you experienced any positive outcomes in observance of Lent?
How do you ‘tune up your spiritual engine’?

We'd love to hear from you!

At the age of nine, Marilyn wrote her first play with a childhood neighbor, “The Ghost and Mr. Giltwallet”.  It was a mystery.  And she’s been writing in one form or another, hobby or livelihood, since.  As well as teaching art, she’s had the opportunity to co-author several plays that have been performed on both church and secular stages, as well as two screenplays.  Marilyn has had the good fortune of “discovering her roots” while visiting England where she developed lasting relationships with wonderful people there.  It has greatly impacted her writing.  A great fan of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and David Cook’s Hetty Wainthropp series, Marilyn was inspired to write her Berdie Elliott Mystery series.  It takes place in a small English village where the vicar’s wife, Berdie Elliott, is the divine sleuth.  Marilyn lives lakeside in a cottage on the outskirts of Denver near the foothills.

Find Marilyn at the following places...

Marilyn's book Up from the Grave is set during Lent!

Unearthed bones in the church back garden sends this small English village digging into the truth.

A Lenten sod turning ceremony for a new water feature in the back garden of St. Aidan of the Wood Parish Church goes utterly pear-shaped when the upturned soil reveals a human skeleton.  With Berdie Elliott at the helm, the whole of Aidan Kirkwood digs into the mystery.  When the bones held life, just who was this person?  Who is the mysterious contessa that arrives on the garden scene?  And what does the young and beautiful Robin Derbyshire’s wedding have to do with the grave?  Unearth the answers in this fun spring romp.

Marilyn and I would like to share with you another great Lenten book.... I Thurst.... a 40 day devotional by Pelican Book Group authors and staff.

Travel through favourite psalms and discover Christ in a special way during each day of Lent.

I Thurst is available in Paperback and E book FREE*

*s/h charges apply to paperback copies in US only

Well friends, hope you enjoyed today's treasure. Stay tuned each week for more Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlights.

Until next time take care and God Bless.

#TuesdayTreasure: Guest Post by Lynn Austin!

Good Morning and Happy Mardi Gras!

Yep, it's Fat Tuesday...the day when we eat, drink and be merry too much then settle in for the Lenten season leading up to Easter. I pray whatever you do to celebrate today, you do it safely and consciously so that everyone involved will have a happy and fun time.

Today I am pleased to bring you a guest post by Lynn Austin.

Bestselling author Lynn Austin has sold more than one million copies of her books worldwide. She is an eight-time Christy Award winner for her historical novels, as well as a popular speaker at retreats and conventions. Lynn and her husband have raised three children and live near Chicago.

Find out more about Lynn and her books by visiting her website.

Now on to her treasure.....This little clay bowl doesn’t look like much, but it’s one of my favorite treasures and sits on display in a place of prominence in my office. It’s an ancient oil lamp, more than 2,700 years old! I traveled to Israel to research Keepers of the Covenant (the story of Ezra), and my other biblical novels, and even worked as a volunteer on an archaeological dig there for a month. These are just a few of the finds I unearthed and was allowed to keep.
The pottery and jar handle are from Ezra’s time. The glass is from Roman times. And the little jug is a reproduction that I brought home for my children—it came in pieces as a “junior archaeology kit” and my kids had the fun of piecing it back together.

When I worked on the dig, I was researching Gods and Kings, the story of King Hezekiah, and I wanted a souvenir from his time period. I bought this oil lamp from 700 BC in an antiquities shop in Jerusalem that was licensed to authenticate and sell artifacts.  What amazes me is that the lamp has survived intact for so many centuries! Jerusalem was completely destroyed at least two times during those centuries—once by the Babylonians in 586 BC and again by the Romans in 70 AD. Yet this simple oil lamp, made from fired clay, managed to survive. It has also survived my three children and at least 3 moves that my family has made!

My treasured oil lamp sits where I see it every day and reminds me of Jesus’ words:  “You are the light of the world . . . let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).  Like my lamp, I hope I can keep on shining through all the good times and the bad.

Find out more about Gods & Kings and other books in Lynn's "Chronicles of the Kings" series HERE.

Well Friends, hope you enjoyed this Tuesday Treasure!

Tomorrow begins the annual EggCerpt Exchange but before that, I'll have one more Rocking Romance read for you on Thursday in place of our normal Thursday Thoughts.

IMW, as we prepare for the Lenten season where most people incorporate fasting, praying and almsgiving into their life, I pray you take time to really consider what you're going to give up or do extra and make this Lent/Easter a true celebration!

Until later...take care, God Bless and Remember: What you believe in your heart & confess with your mouth you create in your life!

Something to think about....

Thursday Thoughts: Noah & The Ark

Good Morning Friends,

Since we are in the Lenten season and on Feb 27th I featured the movie Son of God, over the next few weeks my Thursday Thoughts, in conjunction with Grace Hill Media will consist of behind-the-scenes featurettes from Darren Aronofsky and Russell Crowe's upcoming film, NOAH.

This op-ed published yesterday by USA Today was written by Geoffrey Morin who is head of communications for The American Bible Society. The op-ed is entitled, “NOAH spurs debate pitting art vs. Bible” and poses the question, “How much artistic interpretation should be allowed?”

I thought you might be interested in sharing it with your readers so I’ve included the link here: http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2014/03/12/movie-noah-bible-film-god-religion-darren-aronofsky-column/6342295/

Enjoy and look forward to the movie!

IMW go see Son of God, I know I'm going to!

Until later...take care, God Bless and remember....Jesus is the reason for this season too!

Tuesday Treasure: Love Is A Rose; Egg-cerpt Exchange Fun!

Good Morning Friends,

Since tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and that leads up to Easter, a bunch of authors have gotten together to share book excerpts in Tina Gayle's "Egg-cerpt Exchange" blog hop again this year and I'm one of them!

Since Lent and Easter are very special to me, I'd like to focus on my devotional Love is A Rose for this egg-cerpt exchange so here again are the details....

Music is the magical entry into the spirit world; the golden gate into the Kingdom of God. But we mustn’t be of the mindset that God only uses Christian music to reach out and touch our mind, heart and spirit. God uses any and every means available to speak to His children.

Our job is to be open and receptive.

In this devotional, Pamela S Thibodeaux shares how God opened her spirit to a deeper understanding of the abundance of His grace and mercy through the words of the song, The Rose sung by Country & Western artist Conway Twitty.

Pamela offers Seeds to Ponder and a prayer as she parallels the love of God and the Christian life to each verse of the song.

EGG-CERPT:  Introduction

The Bible talks of harps playing and choirs of angelic hosts singing. It also tells us to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord.” The Israelites were ordered to send the praise and worship team—playing musical instruments, dancing and singing—ahead of the soldiers into battle. So there must be something special and powerful about music.

Music is an intricate element of worship, an aspect of praise that brings you into intimate proximity with the Lord. Music lifts you physically (fatigue disappears, pain is forgotten), mentally (your mind is filled with it, erasing everything else), emotionally (you are saturated with joy and peace) and spiritually (your spirit soars on the wings of His); opening your heart and mind to receive more of God’s presence, more of His truth.

Music is the magical entry into the spirit world; the golden gate into the Kingdom of God. But we mustn’t be of the mindset that God only uses Christian music to reach out and touch our mind, heart and spirit. God uses any and every means available to speak to His children.

Our job is to be open and receptive.

Nearly every Christian song I hear touches my heart in some way, urging me into a closer walk with God and bringing me a truer knowledge of Jesus. Amazingly though, the one song that really opened my spirit to a deeper understanding of the abundance of His grace and mercy wasn’t a Christian song but a Country one.

I’ll never forget the morning in 1995 when The Rose as performed by Conway Twitty came to me in its entirety with Bible references or Scriptures correlating to every verse…

Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender reed“A bruised reed He will not break.”

Some say love, it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed….Bible Conversion; a cutting or stripping away of old beliefs.

Some say love, it is a hunger, an endless, aching need"As the hind longs for running water, so my soul longs for thee oh God...”

I say love, it is a flower, and you its only seed…“If you have faith the size of a mustard seed…”

It’s the heart, afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance… David danced before the Lord.

It's the dream, afraid of waking, that never takes the chance"Entrust your works unto the Lord and your plans will succeed."

It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give…“Love is not selfish…For God so loved the world He GAVE…!”

And the soul, afraid of dying, that never learns to live"What shall a man give in exchange for his soul…For what is man profited if he should gain the whole world but lose his soul?”  Or more accurately…“Let not your heart be anxious, for I am with you always, even unto the end of time.”

When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long"I am going but I will not leave you alone. I will send you a comforter, a counselor to guide and help you.”

And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong…. “God is love and he who dwells in love dwells with God. The meek shall inherit the earth…blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God.”

Just remember in the winter (of darkness and sin)....Jesus died so that we might have life, He conquered sin and darkness…. “I came so that you might have life, in abundance, to the full, overflowing.”

Far beneath the bitter snows...How can something so beautiful, so pure, be so bitter and cold? God is light. He washes us clean with the shed blood of His Son so that we might be as pure as the snow.

Lies the seed, (of faith)...that with the sun's (Son's) love...in the spring... (season of new birth, new life)...becomes the rose (an attractive flower).

Wow, what a revelation!

I immediately sat down and wrote the ensuing compilation paralleling the love of God and the life of a Christian to the words of this song.

Why do you suppose God used a country song to teach me about Himself?

I believe God was using a means familiar to me to show the depth and power of His love for me.

It is my prayer the words contained herein will do the same for you.

Before I begin, let me answer a few questions about myself. I am not a minister or even a candidate for the ministry. I have no degree or doctorate in psychology or anything resembling either. I am simply a Christian housewife and mother who's been blessed with a talent for writing and who desires to glorify the Lord of my life with that talent.

As I said in my opening statement, the Lord led me to write this analogy so the words in it (and I'm sure He also led the songwriter to write such a beautiful song) are His, guided through me by the power of the Holy Spirit to speak to you. So, let's begin.

Christian Romance Magazine

**NOTE** This site is no longer a Christian site....
I've removed all links. Readers please beware!***

Hello Again Friends!

You all know when I find a place for readers and writers to connect I like to share it with you.

Christian Romance Magazine is one of those places! CRM offers a whole bunch of info on Christian books and writing. They also offer readers a chance to comment on their favorite books. Visit their website today and check out the books listed - and if you've read any of my titles, PLEASE leave a comment! All 5 of them can be found on the review page. CRM is listed in the sidebar under Areas of Interest for Authors & Readers.

On another note, Catholics around the world know and understand the Lenten season. It is a special time for reflection, fasting, prayer and giving. Six weeks of focusing on the beattitudes of Christ and implementing them in our life to a deeper degree.

Even if you're not Catholic, this practice is a good one and fasting doesn't have to be food y'know - you can fast television and replace it with prayer or bible study, fast negativism and speak only positive, fast criticism and uplift instead - who knows, after six weeks these may become a way of life.

Well that's about it for today - Oh, Wait!

I promised Sharon Donovan that I'd mention her new story, The Claddagh Ring which was released yesterday @ The Wild Rose Press.

Join me Saturday for a Spotlight on Kim Watters!

Until later.....take care and Be Blessed!
