I sure hope you're enjoying the first weekend of November. Can you believe 2014 is two months away? Where did time go?
Alas, it marches on as usual LOL!
It is my pleasure to bring to you this week's Saturday Spotlight, another Bayou Writers Group member, Peggy Borel with her new children's book, Teach Me! A, B, C
TEACH
ME! ABC
Author/Illustrator Peggy A. Borel is proud to
announce the release of Teach Me! ABC, the first book in of a series. This charming book is filled with amusing
characters for eager new readers. Each
turn of the page brings a wide range of lively illustrations and beginning
alphabet to sound out. Peggy has created
a sparkling world that children will love to read over and over again!
An
artist’s ability to capture on paper the playful glint in a child’s eye, the
capability to portray the unique individuality of a loved one, and the skill to
blend splashes of color to create a rose is a wondrous gift given from God, a
talent no artist should take for granted.
As
a watercolor, pastel, and graphite pencil artist, Peggy Borel states, “I stand
in awe, gazing at each sketch and painting completed by my hands and wonder,
why me? Why have I been so blessed?”
With
a smile, she reflects, “It took me half a lifetime to make this journey to
become an author and artist; I have lots yet to create to make up for lost
time.”
Raised
in Stratton, Maine, where the mountains reach majestically to the sky and wild
flowers dance in fields surrounded by pine trees, this artist found the perfect
place for the imagination to grow while roaming beside the lake, listening to
the sounds of loons while dragonflies played at the waters edge.
In
the winter of 1984, she and her new husband, Mike Borel, left the snow-covered
north and moved to his southern hometown in Louisiana. In 1985, inspired by
Mattie Borel, her mother-in-law and local artist, she picked up her first
paintbrush to try her hand at oil painting. This was the beginning of a secret
love affair with art and silent prayers to one day become a true artist; a
dream that would not be achieved for many years.
In
2001, she gazed with pride at a graphite sketch of her husband completed by her
oldest son, Michael D. Borel, Jr., and the passion to become an artist was
reborn. Christmas of 2001, her children gave her a present that would catapult
her into the world of art. Excitement and anticipation raced as she unwrapped a
book titled “How to Draw Lifelike Portraits from Photographs” by Lee Hammond;
each page, a private art lesson.
January
2002, she created her first three sketches, drawings of her children. Each
drawing is so lifelike many times people think they are actually photographs. These
drawings hang on her wall as a constant reminder of the remarkable gift she has
been given. “God has given me the ability to draw. I will never take this gift
for granted, for a quickly as he gave to me, he can take away.”
Her
first art exhibit of watercolor paintings and graphite sketches, “Coloring our
world one day at a time”, was held June, 2007. Currently, plans
are being made with galleries to display the original watercolor illustrations
for Teach Me! ABC.
