Saturday Spotlight - Judith Rochelle

Well Friends, hope your Thanksgiving was Blessed and Happy!
Today we're spotlighting fellow TWRP author, Judith Rochelle (aka: Desiree Holt) and her book On the Run.
Judith lives in the Hill Country of Texas where most of her hunky cowboys come from. Her real love is Texas, where so many of my stories are set. She's had a lot of firsts in her life – first female sports report on The Michigan Daily at the University of Michigan; first woman to own a rock and roll agency in Detroit, the home of Motown; first woman president of the Pasco (Florida) Economic Development Council. Her background is so varied it’s given her a lot of experiences to choose from when plotting stories. She's been an insurance agent, newspaper reporter, a public relations and special events coordinator, managed rock and Top 40 bands, worked for both a public and private university, chaired regional economic development councils and served on political campaign committees. When Judith is not writing she's an avid reader – anything and everything – and watches football, especially her favorite team, the Michigan Wolverines.
Blurb for On the Run: When Robin Fleming witnesses the murder of her sister, Jamie, her only thought is to grab her nephew and run, from her vicious brother-in-law. Running and hiding, covering their tracks, they eventually settle in Memphis to begin a new life. Robin, now Laura, though still grieving for her sister, is determined to make a good life for her nephew. Then illness hits Andy, and while Laura is dealing with that crisis, bad luck and unfortunate circumstances bring all the players together again and endanger everyone’s lives. Can Dr. Gage Hollander, who has fallen in love with Laura, find a way to save them?
Excerpt: Taking the highway into Oregon might have been easier on her, but she was sure that was the first route C.D. would check. Instead, she cut east immediately into Idaho. Besides evading C.D., she had a specific reason for coming this way. Tomorrow they'd get to Helena, where she had important business to take care of. Things that would help keep her and Bobby safe.

Robin had only a vague idea of how long they'd been driving but it felt as if she'd been doing it forever. Her eyes were gritty from lack of sleep and her muscles rigid with tension. It didn't help that she was constantly watching for some car to run her off the road. She'd been lucky enough to find a couple of drive-through's where she fueled up with coffee. Caffeine raced through her system like a wild horse, revving her up and making her edgy.

She slid a glance at Bobby, wrapped in a blanket and buckled into his car seat. What a lucky thing he was sleeping so heavily. Still, she knew they needed to find a bed pretty soon. And food. Starvation wouldn't be a pretty way to die.

By the time they reached Kellogg, Idaho, she was more than ready to stop. She pulled gratefully into a motel whose sign blinked ‘Vacancy' in big red letters. It was the most welcoming site Robin had seen in a long time.
All proceeds of On the Run will be donated to Victim’s Advocacy Office of SAFamilies, San Antonio Police Department.

Also, November is Crimson Rose month and On the Run is on sale so get your copy today!
Hope you enjoyed this Saturday Spotlight. Join me next week when I introduce to you Sylvie Kaye!
Until later....take care, God Bless and remember....every day should be thanksgiving!

What's Going on in MY World

Hello Friends,

When I consider what to blog about, I try and post something that would be of interest to many.... places where readers and authors connect, author spotlights, etc.

Today I thought I'd just drop by and fill you in on what's happening in my world.

On a personal note, you may or may not know that I am the grandmother of two beautiful children. My Angel Girl, Bryanna is 4 (5 in March) and "Baby Sean" will be 3 in April. I must admit I never beleived the saying, "there's nothing like being a grandparent" until I became one...and yes THERE'S NOTHING LIKE IT!

The great news is I'm going to be a grandmother again! My daughter is almost 3 months along now and we're hoping for a little brother for Bryanna.

On a professional note, my Agent has also accepted my gift book to pitch! I'm so happy about this!! Love is a Rose parallells the love of God and the Christian life to the words of The Rose, written by Amanda McBroom and performed by Conway Twitty and Bette Midler.

I'll be sure and keep you posted on what happens with the projects he pitches.

Bayou Writers Group's Anuual Fall Conference on the 15th was a smashing success! I was going to write a whole post about it, but my fellow BWG members beat me to it. Visit Nona, Mindy or Jess's blog to find out more. One of our guests also blogged about the conference!

Well Friends, that's about all the news for now. Today I'm guest blogging @ Simply Romance Reviews Blog so if you get a chance run over there and check it out.

Saturday Spotlight this week will be Judith Rochelle and her book, On the Run.

Hope you'll drop by and check out this great book.

IMW, have a BLESSED and Happy Thanksgiving!!

Saturday Spotlight - Julie Lessman!

Hello Again!

Time for another Saturday Spotlight.

Today I'd like to introduce to you a wonderful lady and fellow author, Juile Lessman who has garnered much writing acclaim, including ten Romance Writers of America awards. She resides in Missouri with her husband and their golden retriever, and has two grown children and a daughter-in-law. She is the author of The Daughters of Boston series, which includes A Passion Most Pure, A Passion Redeemed, and A Passion Denied. You can visit Julie at her Web site at http://www.julielessman.com/.

Book one in the series revolves around Faith O'Connor. She’s found the love of her life. Unfortunately, he loves her sister.

As World War I rages across the Atlantic in 1916, a smaller war is brewing in Boston. Faith O’Connor finds herself drawn to an Irish rogue who is anything but right for her. Collin McGuire is brash, cocky, and from the wrong side of the tracks, not to mention forbidden by her father. And then there’s the small matter that he is secretly courting her younger sister. But when Collin’s affections suddenly shift her way, it threatens to tear Faith’s proper Boston family apart.

Book 1 of the Daughters of Boston series, A Passion Most Pure will carry your heart from the sophisticated streets of Boston to the green hills of Ireland as men go off to war and women long for their return. Full of passion, romance, rivalry, and betrayal, it will captivate you from the first page.

Book 2 is about Faith's sister, Charity. Depth of beauty … shallow of heart, Charity O’Connor is a woman who gets what she wants. She sets her sights on a man who wants nothing to do with her, and although the sparks are there, he refuses to fan the coals of a potential relationship with a woman who ruined his life. Charity burned him once, destroying his engagement to the only woman he ever truly loved. He won’t play with matches again. But Charity has a plan to turn up the heat, hoping to ignite the heart of the man she loves. And she always gets what she wants—one way or another.

Well folks, if you like historical romances, these are two must reads!

That's it for this week's Saturday Spotlight. Stay tuned next week when we meet author Judith Rochelle!

Don't forget to run over to Elaine Cantrell's Blog and check out my interview.

Tuesday I'll be guest blogging at Simply Romance Reviews - hope to see you there!

Until later...take care, God Bless and remember...The One whose Passion saved us from sin!

Save the Series!

Hello Friends,

Many times you hear horror stories of authors being rooked by unscrupulous agents, small press publishers folding and authors books tied up with red tape and all sorts of things. As you know, I've experienced my share of disasters and near disasters.

But what you may not know is even large publishing houses will pull a book or series. Today I have a very special guest, Christy Barritt to talk with you about the possible demise of her series.

Bio: Christy is the author of the Squeaky Clean Mystery series, which follows the adventures of a crime-scene cleaner who likes to stick her nose into police business. The first book in the series, Hazardous Duty, was a finalist in the American Christian Fiction Writers Book of the Year. She’s married to a teacher and they have a two-year-old son. When Christy has some free time, she’s enjoys… who’s she kidding? She never has any free time! And she wouldn’t have it any other way. For more information, visit her website at: http://www.christybarritt.com/. Help save the Squeaky Clean series by buying a book… and win a gift certificate in the process. Visit her blog at http://myblog4fun.com/cbarritt for more details.

Christy's Story:
Do you remember the TV shows that had cult followings and were critically acclaimed, but the networks canceled them because their viewership wasn’t high enough? Shows like Jericho, Firefly, Freaks and Geeks, Twin Peaks, and Arrested Development. All had a good fan base, but, in the end, it just wasn’t enough.

We have to face it: sometimes good TV shows that have gotten great reviews have the plug pulled.

I never thought the same might happen with my Squeaky Clean Mystery series. My fan base was steadily growing and the series was getting great reviews. But in September, my publisher informed me that unless my sales numbers increase, the Squeaky Clean series will cease to exist. My publisher said he loves my writing and wants the series to continue. But, like any business, money is the bottom line.

You see, even when you’re published, you still have to seek publication.

When I heard about my numbers, I realized I had two primary choices. I could pout and whine and feel sorry for myself. This was a very tempting option, one filled with lots of chocolate and sappy movies and “woe is me” moments.

Or, option number two, I could fight with everything in me to keep the series alive. I could put on my boxing gloves, prepare to sweat and take a few knocks in the face. I could prepare myself to take a bullet and maybe pull some hair out, all with the hope that I might come out victorious.

If I went with option number two, then I knew I had to be honest with my readers about the potential fate of the series. But let’s face it—does any writer really want to own up to having bad sales numbers? I mean, what if I marked myself in the industry as a failure and no publisher ever wanted to touch me again? There were definite risks involved with total and complete honesty.

But over and over again, God has been calling me to honest. I know this sounds funny, since I am a Christian. But I’m a peacemaker, so if being honest causes hurt feelings or drama, I have a tendency to keep my mouth shut. In more than one area, God has been leading me to speak up, even if it means ridicule, conflict or falling out of someone’s good graces.

So, I went with option number two. I decided that if my Squeaky Clean series is going to go down, it’s going to go down fighting. The process has surprisingly been energizing so far, probably more of an adrenaline rush than anything else. I’ve been contacting the media, book clubs, libraries and following up with them if I don’t hear an initial response. I’ve been blogging and doing more blog tours. I’ve been contacting stores and readers, trying to get them interested.

I’ve been learning a lot this whole situation, things that I think can help other writers, both published and unpublished. I’ve been learning that:

· If you’re called to do something, don’t give up, even when the odds are against you
· If you believe in something, give it your very last breath. Anything that’s worth having is worth fighting for.
· Publishing isn’t for the faint of heart.
· View being published as a challenge—and learn to embrace challenges.

By the way, I started a contest to save the Squeaky Clean series. Tell me how you’re helping to spread the word about the series, and be entered to win a $50 gift certificate to Christianbook.com. Details are on my blog at: http://myblog4fun.com/cbarritt.

About Suspicious Minds: Rock and roll may never die, but the King is definitely dead . . . again.

In this smart and suspenseful sequel to Hazardous Duty, crime-scene cleaner Gabby St. Claire finds herself stuck doing mold remediation to pay the bills. But her first day on the job, she uncovers a surprise in the crawlspace of a dilapidated home: Elvis, dead as a doornail and still wearing his blue suede shoes. How could she possibly keep her nose out of a case like this?

Elvis turns out to be Darnell Evans, a down-on-his-luck impersonator whose luck just got a lot worse, and there is no shortage of suspects. When his widow begs her to help, Gabby takes on the case of who-killed-the-King. In the meantime her would-be rival, Chad Davis, is turning into one hunka hunka burnin’ love and starting to dish out some serious TLC, which is the last thing Gabby needs right now.

Realizing the futility of running from God and from her responsibilities, Gabby decides to reconsider her priorities her life. But when the ersatz Elvis killer catches on to her investigation, will she survive long enough to be able to?

Well Friends, there you have it....the story of a couple of books which may be pulled from distribution due to the bottom line.

If you enjoy mysteries, check out Christy's Squeaky Clean Series - Hazardous Duty and Suspicious Minds!

Saturday Spotlight this week will be author Julie Lessman and two of her Daughters of Boston series books, A Passion Most Pure and A Passion Redeemed.

Also on Saturday I'll be the guest over at Elaine Cantrell's Blog!

Hope to see you here!

Saturday Spotlight - Amber Leigh Williams

Hello Again,

Time for our Saturday Spotlight and today I'm proud to share with you a fellow TWRP author, Amber Leigh Williams (aka: Amber Shedeck) and her book, Denied Origin!

Amber Leigh Williams is a member of RWA and secretary of the Gulf Coast Chapter of RWA. Her first novel Fox & Hound was published in February with Red Rose Publishing and received an "Outstanding Read" review with Simply Romance.

DENIED ORIGIN, a romantic suspense with The Wild Rose Press, is available now with a print release of November 14. She is also contracted with TWRP's Wayback, TX series with her western novella BLACKEST HEART. The first book in her contemporary Fairhope series, A SUMMER'S HOPE, is also contracted with TWRP.
She enjoys being a stay-at-home writer mostly because she loves spending as much time as possible with the three Labradors she shares with her husband, Jacob. She’s lived in the South all her life and currently resides in Alabama. Contact Amber at amber@amberleighwilliams.com. Visit Amber at http://www.amberleighwilliams.com/.

Blurb for Denied Origin: Former FBI agent and bodyguard Mark Welles’s career and life are going downhill until he meets Marcisso Tuttora, the man his father died protecting years ago. Wealthy businessman Marcisso puts the life of his only child, Valentina, in Mark’s hands by asking him to return to Rio de Janeiro to guard her.

Less than a week later, Marcisso and his wife are murdered in their beds, and Valentina is running for her life for reasons she cannot begin to guess until she meets Mark Welles. A stubborn heiress to an oil fortune and the son of a highly decorated soldier, they must find a way to escape the country without getting caught and find out why they are chased by a deadly terrorist. In a matter of weeks, they are driven into a scavenger hunt across the globe laid out by Valentina’s parents and embark on a passionate, emotional journey as exhilarating and intense as the race for their lives.

EXCERPT:

"He's gone…gone." She chanted it like a sinner at a shrine, her eyes wide with fear. "He was there…then he was gone."

"Drink it," he ordered, holding her tight. He managed to pour the liquid into her mouth.

She winced as she swallowed it. There were tears pouring down her cheeks again. "They took him to get to us. He was just a ladder to me." She ripped the envelope from her bra strap and, in a sudden burst of righteous anger, hurled it across the room. "What is it worth? People shouldn't have to die for me!"

She collapsed into shudders against him. He held her close as she sobbed loudly into his shirt. "Don't think of it," he advised.

Her face lifted and she stared incredulously at him. "Don't think about it?" she shot back. "Why don't you tell me how to do that? Why don't you tell me how to block it out, numb it? You must be an expert on that!"

He was silent. The anger was better than helpless shudders. He let her berate him without interruption.

"They killed a good man to get to me! It's my fault he's dead! It's my fault that some poor, innocent man is lying out on the street in a million pieces! There's no way they can justify that!"

"They're not trying to justify anything, Valentina," he said calmly, taking her face in his hands to keep her eyes on his. "They're not thinking about morals or justice. They're thinking about you and the letter. They're thinking about eliminating you. They think they can weaken you or take you out by targeting the people you love. He didn't die a coward. That matters. Let that be your comfort."

Unmoved by his words, she shoved his hands away from her face and scrambled to her feet. "Who's going to die next for me, Mark? You?" Her lips trembled threateningly and her eyes filled with hot tears at the mere thought of the idea. "If you die, too, because of me, I'll never be able to live with myself. If somebody else dies for me, I won't be able to keep going. Why not just let them take me? It should end here! Right here, right now!"

He got to his feet and went to her quickly. In a quick surge of anger, he pushed her against the wall with his hands on her shoulders. "Don't say that ever again, you hear me? You're not going to give up. You're not going to quit. If you do, you're quitting your family. You're quitting what we've worked for together. You're quitting me. Could you live with that, Valentina?"

Her hands came to her face as her throat heaved with dry sobs. "Why can't it all just go away? I don't want my life anymore. I don't want it. I can't live this way anymore. Take me back home, Mark. Take me right now."

"I am taking you home!" he yelled without thinking.

She stared at him for a long moment. "What's that supposed to mean?"

He paused, collecting himself. "You're going to find out soon enough because you're not quitting. The end's not far and I won't let you quit now. I can't. You're moving on even if I have to drag you every inch of the way."

She shoved him away, her eyes hot with fury. "You don't control me!"

"You can justify his death by finishing this. You will finish!"

"Leave me alone!" she cried, turning from him. "Just go away; take my father's money and run. I don't need you anymore."

"You need me, Valentina," he warned, gripping her arm before she could walk away. "You need me and you know it!"

Ooohhh, sounds facinating!

Good News - We Have An Agent!!

Hello Friends!

If you read my post on October 16th, you'll know that I pulled my book, The Visionary from Enspiren Press due to unforseen and unfortunate circumstances. This put me back to square one with the novel...should I pitch to other small presses or take a chance and find an agent to represent me?

With much prayer and consideration, I decided to give myself a time frame to find an agent and if no success, pitch to small presses.

Well, WE HAVE AN AGENT!

By the grace of God or a miracle (aren't they one and the same?) I hooked the 2nd person I queried!!

Mr. Les Stobbe has been in the business for 53yrs and is known as the champion of getting contracts for new authors.

Now some of you may feel like I do, that I'm not a new author, but in the eyes of bigger publishing houses, I just may be.

And that's fine!

As long as one contracts this book and my other WIP - Circles of Fate LOL!

Well Friends, just wanted to share with you this success and to THANK YOU for your continued prayers and support.

Now, on to more news.....

Wednesday I'll be spotlighting Masha Malka and her book The One Minute Coach for her virtual book tour through streetsmarketing.com.

Our Saturday Spotlight this week will be Amber Leigh Williams and her latest book Denied Origin.

Saturday is also Bayou Writers' Group's Annual Fall Conference so if you're in the vicinity of Lake Charles, Louisiana c'mon out and join us!

That's all for now, Folks!

Until later...take care, God Bless and remember....the Vision is yet for an appointed time!

Rose enjoys reading all types of romance novels but concentrates her writing efforts on inspirational romances. Rose lives in rural Elk Point , SD with her husband.

Wisteria, of Long and Short of It Reviews says, "Through the Eyes of Love is a touching story of a young woman's internal struggle that challenges the human spirit. A compelling read and a feel good story all in one, Audra and Mike's love story is sure to bring a tear to the eye as well as find a well deserved place on your "keeper" shelves."

Rose blogs weekly, please drop by and visit her My Space page, www.myspace.com/roserosszediker and Shout Life page, www.shoutlife.com/roserosszediker. She also takes her turn blogging on the Wild Rose Press inspirational author's blog, "White Roses in Bloom", http://www.whiterosesinbloom.blogspot.com/.

Blurb:

Once the gangly boy next door, Mike Redmond grew into a six-foot, six-inch man. His former occupation as a guitarist in a Christian Rock Band necessitated a certain look including waist-length blond hair, goatee and hoop earrings. Forced into a major career change, Mike gave the situation over to God and follows what the Lord put on his heart. Opening a music store in Clearview and winning Audra's love.

Audra Pope runs a successful insurance agency but shies away from relationships, including one with God. Men want a perfect "magazine ad" woman and, due to her spine deformity, Audra doesn't meet that standard. Although Mike's outward appearance bothers an influential business owner, Audra begins to fall in love with him. Can she learn to see people, including herself, the way God does from the inside out?

Sounds like another author on the rise!
