#TuesdayTreasures Guest post by Emily Conrad

Good Morning Friends!

Last month I introduced to you a fellow Pelican Book Group Author, Emily Conrad. Today Emily returns to share something she treasures with us.....

Small Business Saturday drew my mom and I to a downtown jewelry store near my city’s Main Street. We were Christmas shopping for my sister, who had long been admiring vintage gemstone rings.

The jeweler showed my mom and I to the case he stocked from estate sales. A gorgeous citrine ring with intricate filigree shone among the selection.

The jeweler told us he’d discovered the ring (and others) in the basement of the store. His father had made the rings, but they had never sold and were put away in storage. Now that they’d been rediscovered, the store was selling them off.

Part of me couldn’t believe he’d part with something his dad had made, but then I suppose his dad had made them so people would wear and enjoy them. And perhaps the jeweler kept something for himself or his family.

Whatever the case, the citrine ring was true handcrafted vintage with no previous owners.

My sister and I wear the same ring size, so I tried it on. And fell in love.

Though the ring was gorgeous, it didn’t match what my sister wanted, so my mom ended up buying it for me as a special Christmas gift.

I love that the story behind how I got the ring is wrapped up in family—mine, and even the jeweler’s. I love that it’s tied to my hometown, too, and our nice, small town Main Street sector.

It’s been a few years, but the ring remains a treasure to me. That jewelry store is only a few blocks from the location that inspired the setting for my debut novel, Justice, and I received the ring at some point during the process of working on the story. When a ring entered the story, I knew just what to base it on.

Do you have any jewelry with an extra-special story behind it? Please use the comments to share!

How sweet, Emily! I have a ring that was handed down to me from my grandmother that's really special but never have found one with such a wonderful story attached to it. Thanks for sharing!

Emily Conrad lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two rescue dogs. She loves Jesus and enjoys road trips to the mountains, crafting stories, and drinking coffee. (It’s no coincidence her debut novel is set mostly in a coffee shop!)

She offers free short stories on her website www.emilyconradauthor.com and loves to connect with readers on social media.

Her debut novel, Justice can be found at Amazon, B&N, and Pelican Book Group.

Jake thought he was meant to marry Brooklyn, but now she's pregnant, and he had nothing to do with it. Brooklyn can’t bring herself to name the father as she wrestles with questions about what her pregnancy means and how it will affect her relationship with Jake. If Harold Keen, the man who owns the bookstore across from Jake's coffee shop, has anything to do with it, the baby will ruin them both.

Hope you enjoyed today's post and that you'll check back each week for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlight.

Until next time take care and God Bless.

Beautiful story! I have a ring that belonged to my mother. I was given the ring after she passed away. It's too small for me, and I could have it sized, but it reminds me of her small, delicate hands. I suppose I'll do it someday, but she's only been gone a year. Thanks for such a special story!

I too have several of Moms rings after my 3 sisters and I did a “round robin” type selection process until all of those treasures had been claimed. I never appreciated the rings when she wore them or her fascination with gemstones but, boy do I treasure them now. Thanks for sharing, Emily

I love rings and have two that once belonged to my mother. My dad took me to a jewelry store when I was about five years old and he bought the ring that went to my mom's wedding band. She wore it the rest of her life, and it's my treasure now. Thanks for the story.

Marrying young, we had no money for an engagement ring. Not until our 25th wedding anniversary did my husband present me with a diamond ring--but what a beauty it is--a one-of-a-kind, special-made with four larger diamonds making a flower in the center and smaller ones on each side in an a-symmetrical pattern.
Now that we are at the 50+ anniversary, I tell him there's no need for another ring. This one will suit me forever!
Nice post and good luck with your career.

I love these stories of hanging on to rings that belonged to your moms. What a testimony it is to their impact in your lives that these rings have become precious keepsakes. Thank you all so much for stopping by and sharing about these treasures and, by extension, an even greater treasure--moms! <3

When my mom passed on, I got her beautiful earring and necklace set, depicting a sunset. The amazing part is, the set, tastefully demur, is made from butterfly wings that are encased in glass. I don't know how the jeweler did it, but I love them and the memories they evoke. Cheers

My husband has also given me beautiful jewelry which I treasure. Jewelry passed on to family members is meaningful.

Love the story of the beautiful ring! I have a ring that belonged to my mom’s mom, who then gave it to my mom. My mom says she planned to give it to me on my 40th birthday, but instead gave it to me 7 months beforehand when she was diagnosed with colon cancer, which ended up taking her from us within a month after her diagnosis. I love having the ring as a reminder of her.

Alina and Jacqueline - I still have some my husband gave me while we were dating--we were young so it's nothing fancy, but sometimes, it's all who gave the gift, isn't it?
Marilyn - Those sound like beautiful pieces, and how special that they were your mother's.
And thanks, Anne! Glad you stopped by!
