#SaturdaySpotlight: DISGUISED BLESSINGS by Mary Manners!

Good Morning Friends,

Over the last few weeks you've heard about something Mary treasures and some of her thoughts on the seasons of life, and in each we mentioned her upcoming release, Disguised Blessings.

Well today we're spotlighting the novel itself!

Blessings linger at a fork in the road as the winds of change whisper…

Jaxon Briscoe has enjoyed a decade as the beloved star center of the Chicago Blackhawks. But off the ice, a string of reckless relationships has resulted in an accusation that he’'s fathered a child. As Jaxon'’s conscience is tossed into a firestorm, he learns his nephew, Grayson, has been expelled from school, and Jax is blindsided when Gray shows up on his doorstep--—for good.

Adrienne Price carries a heavy secret...pregnant at a young age, she gave up her daughter for adoption in the hopes that the child might have a better life. Now, Adrienne's vowed to help teens rise above unsavory situations. As a result of God'’s grace, her project, Second Chances Day School, has prospered beyond her wildest imagination. But when Jax'’s troubled nephew enrolls at Second Chances, Adrianne is faced with a big challenge in the form of a hockey player with a bad reputation and a lot of boyish charm.

Can Adrienne and Jax finally find real love?

Excerpt:
Jaxon swung open French doors leading to a corner balcony and let the warmth of late spring air wash over him. Sunlight played hide and seek with a quilt of rain clouds, and he sucked in a gentle breeze laced with the sweet, musky scent of impending rain. Along the river, Bradford Pears peaked to full bloom. The pollen wreaked havoc with his allergies, but at the moment he didn’t mind.

I’m not a father…the baby is not mine. Thanks to negative test results, he wouldn’t be bound to Shayla for the remainder of his life.

But someone would. Obviously, she’d had more than one fish in the tank, so to speak. Jaxon didn’t know why it crawled under his skin to imagine her with someone else. He certainly  had enjoyed more than his fair share of the female persuasion, never giving a second thought to the flip side of that perspective.  His encounters had always been laid back and easy…no strings attached and certainly no expectations. He wasn’t sure why, but he’d never considered the women he enjoyed might be dabbling in more than him.

But now that that gear was turning, Jaxon couldn’t shove the idea from his mind. And  suddenly the images he conjured bothered him—very much. And the oath he’d muttered in his weakest moment came back to haunt him.

I swear I’ll do anything You ask, God, if you just let this paternity test come back negative.

Surely God wouldn’t hold him to such an oath, would He? Jaxon shook off the thought as he punched a series of numbers into the phone. Calhoun’s didn’t usually deliver this time of day but he was sure they would make an exception…for him.

#ThursdayThoughts with Mary Manners!

Good Morning!

Last Tuesday fellow Pelican Book Group author, Mary Manners shared with us something she treasures well today she's sharing a few thoughts about the colors of life.....

Life is like the changing colors of trees that line a sun-kissed horizon. Throughout our daily walk, we go through phases of bloom and loss, fullness and barrenness, vibrancy and brittle dullness, just as trees do. Through each phase, the roots of the trees remain strong and steadfast, like the roots of our faith and the promise of our Father’s unending love. No storm can conquer, no season destroy what God has put into place.
How does inspirational romance fit into the colors of our lives? Well, a good Christian romance is filled with a message that inspires hope and strengthens faith. For a brief time, the reader is transported to a place where, although the characters may not be perfect (is anyone…really?) they manage to find their way together. Love and faith shine like beacons, reminding readers there is always hope and a future for us—even during the driest, most colorless season, when all appears dull and lifeless.
I truly believe the colors of life are ever-changing to keep us aware and appreciative of God’s many precious gifts, given to each and every one of us. Romance is one of these gifts…a gift to be savored.

What do you think of the colors of life, and what season are you in? What inspirational romance has given you a bushel of hope? Please share your thoughts with us!

#TuesdayTreasure: Guest Post by Mary Manners!

Good Morning Friends,

I pray you all had a wonderful, blessed & safe July 4th.

Today's treasure is a guest post by my fellow Pelican Book Group author and friend, Mary Manners.

Count Your Blessings

Sometimes I’m so caught up in the day-to-day bustle of life that I forget how very blessed I am. Anytime and often it's good to ponder the blessings in your life. For various reasons, the Summer works well for me to reflect…and hopefully take a moment to slow down long enough to draw a breath, step back, and count the many blessings that fill my life.

I’m thankful for a loving husband—a man with whom a share a real-life romance filled with love and laughter, adventure and fun (I tell my husband he’s cheap entertainment). Tim supports and encourages my passion for sharing the written word. I’m so thankful God brought him into my life.

I’m thankful for my daughter, Danni, who has grown into a beautiful young woman. Danni illuminates my life with her loving, generous spirit. She’s friend to everyone, and has a special place in her heart for the elderly and the hurting. She is truly a blessing to me.

My friends, especially my precious writing friends, are a reason to give thanks. These wonderful people completely understand when I mention the ‘voices’ that speak to me while I’m writing. I love them dearly.

But, most of all, I am thankful for my Lord and Savior, who has given all of this and more to me. What an amazing blessing to know His love and grace are never-ending.

So, as this summer season stretches before us, I wish you blessings and peace, dear friends. May you take a moment to draw a breath, step back, and count the many blessings that fill your life.

Looks like Mary has many treasures in her life! I bet if you think about it, you do too.

Danger fails to bloom in the shadow of faith and family...

Wyatt Cutler manages to break away from family-owned Cutler Nursery--and Clover Cove—until his father perishes in a tragic accident. With no choice but to abandon his prestigious position at world-renowned Messer Dynamics and return to Clover Cove, Wyatt's only goal is to help his mother and brother, Reese, keep Cutler Nursery in business.

The laughter that surrounds Kami Moretto at her family's pizzeria has faded. Her mom is gone and, for her dad, depression has set in. With Pappy’s Pizzeria hanging on by a thread, Kami longs for days of the past and a time when her faith carried her through every storm. Across the street, she watches Wyatt scowl as he works and wonders how he can take his family—and his business—for granted when hers is in such shambles.

When tragedy strikes, Wyatt realizes he must let go of the past and cling to hope for the future; he’s in danger of losing his family, his business, and the only woman he’s truly loved.

Excerpt:
A bell over the front door chimed, signaling another customer had arrived. Conflict bit at Kami’s belly. She was thankful for the business that would help them stay afloat another week, but dragging on her feet. She prayed for the strength to make it to closing time. She couldn’t let her dad see how exhausted she felt. It would just add more worry to his already overflowing plate. She drew a deep, cleansing breath and turned toward the door. Philippians 4:13 washed over her, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’

The breath whooshed out.

“Hi, Kami. How are you today, my dear?” Hattie Cutler’s grin was contagious, but that wasn’t what stopped Kami in her tracks. It was the man at Hattie’s side—her eldest son, Wyatt Cutler. Dark and mysterious…that’s how Kami always thought of him; the most elusive of the Wyatt clan and so different from his three younger siblings.

“I’m…fine.” Kami found it hard to speak while Wyatt’s eyes, like two pieces of polished bronze, scanned the length of her. A scowl formed as a single furrow along his forehead deepened into a thin line. Dark hair tumbled over the collar of his long-sleeved navy shirt in mussed waves of rich russet. How was it possible for any human to possess such impossible good looks? Suddenly, the carafe she held weighed fifty pounds. Her hands felt weak as globs of gelatin. She swallowed hard and managed a raspy, “Hello, Wyatt.”

“Kami?” His gaze narrowed and the scowl widened as he wrestled the wobbling carafe from her. “Don’t drop this. You’ll burn yourself. Are you OK?”

“Yes, of course I’m OK.” She smoothed her French braid, grimacing at the flyaway strands that had escaped an elastic band to dance around her heated face. Dad must have turned up the thermostat against the rainy chill, because suddenly she was sweltering. The palms of her hands were slick as she snatched the carafe back from him. “And give me this. I’m perfectly capable of handling it. What’s wrong with you, Wyatt? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Do I look so different from the last time you saw me?”

“It’s been a long time, so yes…I mean, no.” He jammed his hands into the pockets of his jeans, his gaze capturing hers and holding tight. “It’s just…you’ve grown up.”

“Well, that’s a real shocker.” Frazzled nerves sizzled and popped as she swiped her free hand along the thigh of her jeans and adjusted her apron, splattered with a full day’s worth of preparing and serving meals. Her feet screamed in worn tennis shoes and her lower back cried out through a tangle of nerves. “Time does that to a person, you know.”

Looks like another winner, Mary!

Saturday Spotlight: Wishes at Willow Lake by Mary Manners

Good Morning Friends and a beautiful day it is!

As usual, it is my pleasure to bring you great books by prolific authors and, with more than 25 titles out, Mary Manners is no slouch in the writing department!

Today we're spotlighting her book, Wishes at Willow Lake

Can a bookworm and a builder find love among the romance shelves?

Mason Donovan has a secret he’s spent years overcoming: dyslexia. Through school, he was viewed as the proverbial kid with all brawn and no brain. He wanted nothing more than to be included with the other guys in his high school classes and to have a date with Josie Parker. His longing leads to a reckless escapade at Willow Lake and the death of an innocent child.

Josie Parker loves reading so much that she decides to open a bookstore/café. Among the pages, she finds relief from a childhood marred by the remorse that she never quite measured up to her mother's expectations. Business is booming, so when she needs an expansion to the facilities she calls the best builder in the South: Mason Donovan. She doesn’t expect him to return to Willow Lake so quickly, or to look so good.

Is it possible for a bookworm and a builder to find love and healing among the romance shelves?

Excerpt:

Josie glanced in the direction Ali pointed and gasped as her gaze captured the glossy image on the magazine’s cover. Her breath whooshed out as her belly fluttered. “Oh, my.”

“Oh my, is right.” Ali chuckled, nestling Rory to her side as she navigated a path through the littered floor. “Mason Donovan has made his mark in the world.”

“Mason Donovan…” Josie bent to retrieve a copy of the magazine. Her pulse raced as she drank in the image of him clad in faded Levi’s and a flannel shirt, sleeves rolled to expose sinuous muscles along his forearms. A hardhat and scuffed work boots only served to improve his rugged good looks, and the tool belt slung low along his hips kicked her pulse into next week.

"Is that really him?"

Get your copy of Wishes at Willow Lake directly from Pelican Book Group!

Jack Seaton moves mountains, literally, as he develops commercial property along the West Coast. But not a day goes by that he doesn’t think of Misty Larsen and the carefree love they once shared. He thought they’d end up married, but his job—and five thousand miles—got in the way. He’s sure she’s moved on and found a new man to love...Until he unexpectedly receives a letter Misty wrote the day he left Mill’s Landing nearly six years ago. Jack is shocked to learn Misty was pregnant with his child—a child that must be in kindergarten by now.

Misty Larsen is determined to give her daughter a good life. She’s put a business-management degree to use by spearheading an online Web-design agency. Misty’s hectic schedule gives her little time to reminisce about Jack Seaton, the man who stole her heart. But when Jack storms Misty’s doorstep one thunder-filled afternoon, clutching her letter in his hand, the past bubbles up and spills over to merge their lives once again.

EXCERPT:

Soda spewed from Jack’s mouth and backwashed to his nose, setting his sinuses on fire. He coughed, sputtered, and waited for the rush of optic stars to clear. Maybe he’d read wrong. Maybe he was hallucinating—the stress was finally getting to him. Or maybe Mike was in the wings, pranking him.
Mike liked a good joke as much as the next guy…but not like this. Uh uh. Jack found the words once more.
You’re going to be a daddy...
His fingers gripped the letter like a vice. Suddenly the room sweltered, despite a nip of early-spring breeze that whispered through the open window above the sink. He struggled to breathe as he continued to scan the print.
I know this is a huge shock…something neither one of us expected. But it’s a blessing, too. I know you love me, and I love you, Jack—so much that sometimes I wake up just aching inside with the thought of you. We’ve been together our whole lives, and I’ve missed you this week. It’s made me realize what’s most important.
You asked me to marry you, and my answer is yes. I want to be your wife, Jack. I hope you still feel the same.
No matter what I said about never leaving Mill’s Landing, about not moving to California, this changes everything. It’s not just about me anymore—or you. I’m sure now that my place, and our child’s place, is with you—forever and wherever that may be.
Let’s talk this out. Please, before you leave. We have to make this right for the baby—for us.
Meet me at the Landing, beneath the willows, at six. I’ll be waiting for you.
I love you, Jack.
Misty
The room began to sway, and the letter slipped from Jack’s fingers as he grabbed the edge of the table to steady himself. Suddenly, he’d tumbled from a cliff, strapped into a construction truck. The truck spun and crashed along rocks to a bottomless crevasse. His gut clenched, and the sandwich threatened to come back up, bringing the soda with it. Jack stumbled to the sink, the room listing. Chills crawled across his skin, and sweat dampened the small of his back.
You’re going to be a daddy…
The words echoed like a tsunami through his head. Jack thought of the date on Misty’s letter. Almost seven years ago…
No, I am a daddy. Unless something happened after I left. Unless…

I certainly hope you enjoyed this Tuesday Treasure - check back for Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlight!

Until later.... take care, God Bless and Remember.....What you believe in your heart & confess with your mouth you create in your life!

Tessa, the youngest Spencer sister--and the most impulsive--rushes into the Mount Ridge crisis center bent on saving her brother-in-law. She's ready to handle Brent's abductor, with or without help. What she's not ready to handle is the effect policeman, Colin Phillips, has on her. Romance is the last thing on Tessa's mind. She longs for the adventure and fast-pace of New York City, not being tied to Mount Ridge and a man who insists she shouldn't be so impetuous. After all "independent spirit" is what Tessa does best! Colin transferred from the police force in Atlanta in order to find closure after the brutal murder of his younger sister. He wants a nice, safe future, not one filled with caring and worrying about another impulsive woman. His sister was naïve and unpredictable, and while Colin is drawn to Tessa's spunk and vitality, her willingness to rush into danger scares him. No way could he cope with another devastating loss. His heart must remain closed where Tessa is concerned. But God has His own plans...and His own way of changing hearts and cultivating love.

After setting out on a forced vacation, and literally running into a moose, Manhattan Assistant D.A. Samantha Knowles finds it’s not so bad being stranded in a quirky but intriguing Adirondack town. But when her three-year prosecution against a convicted killer begins to unravel, she’s thrust into a whirlwind of haunting memories, fear, and danger...and suddenly, Haven isn’t so safe, after all.

Brent Peterson returns to Mount Ridge, Tennessee with a single goal—to win back Grace Spencer. He's loved her since kindergarten, and should have told her how he felt, but Dan Turner swooped in and stole Grace away before Brent had the chance. Now Grace is a widow with a young son, and while it’s been three years since her husband’s death, Brent isn’t sure he should make his feelings known.

When Brent comes around the family bakery, Grace longs to restore their friendship, but the thin gold wedding band on her finger—and memories of Dan—stand between them.

Can Brent's gentle patience coax Grace to let go of her memories…and the ring, or is it time for Brent to move on alone, and leave Mount Ridge forever?

Saturday Spotlight ~ New Release from White Rose Publishing!

Good Morning Friends and a beautiful day it is! Hot but lovely.
Today I'm happy to share with you this week's new release from White Rose Publishing~Buried Treasures by Mary Manners!
Ever notice sometimes the things that are right in front of us are the things we fail to fully recognize? Caroline's about to experience that very thing. You don't want to miss handsome, Matt Carlson, as he convinces Caroline he's her second chance at happiness. Download it today!

When Caroline flees Chicago following the brutal murder of her husband, the last thing she expects—or wants—is to fall for Matt Carlson, a builder with strong roots in the small town of Mountainview, Tennessee. She needs to focus on raising her six-year-old daughter and protecting both their hearts from ever being shattered again.

Matt is struggling with issues of his own…guilt over the death of his wife and the responsibility of raising a cynical teenaged nephew who is dropped on his doorstep, abandoned by Matt's alcoholic sister. He doesn't have time to fall in love, yet he can't help being drawn to the woman who is ready to defend her home—and her daughter—with nothing more than a feisty attitude and a broom handle.

Can Matt's help and friendship convince Caroline to trust again…and when Caroline's daughter goes missing, will Matt be able to find the girl before it's too late and he loses everything he loves…again?
Buried Treasures is available now in Ebook and Print!
