#SaturdaySpotlight with Janet Elizabeth Lynn!

Good Morning Friends,

We are winding down our week with Janet. She'll be back tomorrow and I certainly hope you've enjoyed this week with her.

I know I have. So without much further ado, here she is....

I have always loved the 1950s Noir genre, movies, books, pictures etc. I inherited my mother’s fascination with Hollywood. I remember the TV shows my parents watched, Lassie, Gunsmoke, The Jack Benny Show.
When I started writing, 2000, I always wanted to attempt ‘50s Noir, but couldn’t figure out how to get into a man’s head and make it sound real. My husband is a published author too. We edited each other’s work. He consistently changed the dialogue for my male characters with, “A guy wouldn’t say that.”
One day I mentioned how I’d love to write a Noir Murder Mystery. He turned to me and said, “So let’s do one together.” I almost broke into tears.
People warned us it would tarnish our 43 year old marriage. People insisted it wouldn’t work. With these warnings, we took a spiritual approach of setting rules of kindness, respect and overall patience. We started with a deadline schedule and followed it to the letter. We met every two weeks to discuss character development, subplots and fight scenes-what was working and what wasn’t. We took field trips to old Hollywood, Hip hop clubs, all to get the feel for the 1950s.

The results-SLIVERS OF GLASS and a wonderful partnering experience for both of us. Will there be more coauthored books? You bet!

Find bio and contact information on Janet and Bill in yesterday's post.

Slivers of Glass can be purchased at Amazon in print and for Kindle!

What a wonderful story to post on this Valentine's Day! I hope your's is Blessed and Happy and filled with......

#ThursdayThoughts: Happiness

Good Morning and Welcome to the last Thursday Thoughts for October 2014! Still can't believe this year is nearly over.

As I sit here in the quiet, early morning hours and take a moment to connect with my soul one thing is abundantly clear.... I AM Happy.

Writing that, emotions swell in my body... a lump in the throat, tears in my eyes, gratitude overflows my heart, my mind is awhirl.

I look back over this past year and recall a conversation with a friend when he said, "happiness is the greatest attraction" and I realize how true that is.

People are more drawn to those who exude happiness, joy and peace.

Just as misery loves company and depression darkens the brightest day, the vibrant energy of happiness permeates the atmosphere and has the ability to raise up everyone around you.

Knowing this, why wouldn't you choose happiness as a way of life?

Now, I know as well as the next person you can't be happy all the time. Things will happen, sad memories will rise up and put a damper on your mood. Some will even try to convince you that you have no right to be happy.

Give yourself permission to feel those feelings then let them go! Do NOT allow the thief to come in and destroy your innate happiness and joy. Afterall, joy is powerful, and happiness is infectious.

So how would someone whose been in a depressed state choose happiness and joy?

One way is to get up every morning and say Thank You, Thank God for even the smallest blessing in your life. Even if that means finding and focusing on one simple thing, do it!

Another is to keep a prayer/gratitude journal. Begin your list with "I'm so happy and grateful that/for (fill in the blank)."

Write affirmations of your choice to be happy.... "I let go and let God, I choose to be happy." I am happy. I am joyful. I am peace. I am gratitude.

Writing and speaking are very powerful tools of change.

Put on some happy, upbeat music and dance every chance you get! Movement is essential for good health and as you loosen up and feel the music down in your soul, realize this is a form of worship too.

These are just a few ways you can increase the level of happiness and joy in your life. Try one or two and I guarantee you'll come up with several of your own.

But bottom line.... Happiness and Joy are a choice. Therefore, choose wisely.

Have a Blessed & Happy Day!!

Thursday Thoughts: Happiness

Well after the past several days it's a wonder I can even begin to think about happiness. That alone makes me think....

I know, I'm crazy as a loon LOL!

But seriously. How many times do we allow the circumstances in our lives and/or the actions of others dictate OUR joy?

Here's the thing... we have a CHOICE. I've said this before to so many people and believed it myself. That didn't stop me from experiencing anger to a degree I've never felt before due to someone else's actions and attitudes these past several days.

However, the shift from that to pure happiness happened when I chose to not allow that situation to control me.
So, no matter what is going on and with whom, choose happiness, peace and joy. Choose not to let the actions and attitudes of others control your emotions. Choose to be happy and to trust that God is in control and will show Himself strong on your behalf.

The power of choice is yours....

Something to think about!

Speaking of Choices....my short story is still available!

Best-selling novelist and songwriter, Camie Rogers has penned numerous accounts of the secret love she holds in her heart. Country-Music Superstar Kip Allen has changed from the shy, humble boy, to the epitome of “star.” Can the two rediscover each other after one night of his Home is where the Heart is Tour?

Excerpt: Too soon, the concert was over, and security officers rushed her backstage. Waiting in the shadows apart from the throng of frenzied fans vying for autographs and pictures, she watched with concern as Kip raked his fingers through his hair. He heaved a tired sigh, insisted on no more autographs, and then headed for his dressing room.
Camie stepped forward, "Just one more autograph?" Kip turned at her soft request. His eyes lit with recognition, and he gave her an unreserved smile.
"Camie!" He enfolded her in a big hug. "What are you doing back here?"
A flush warmed her skin at the velvety-roughness of his voice. "I won the prize package from the radio station. You know: Front row seat, backstage pass, autographed C.D., etcetera, etcetera, etcetera." Her heart raced at his nearness, her body trembled in his strong embrace. Feeling way too comfortable in his arms, she disentangled herself and took a step back.
He grinned. "Great. You look good."
Her heart skipped a beat. "So do you." Electricity sizzled between them.
Always had.
Even in high school.
Theirs had been a subtle romance, underscored by sensual currents that hummed whenever their eyes met or they ventured into a conversation, both too shy to take the relationship further.
"What ever happened to us?"  She wondered aloud, finding it difficult to speak past her heart hammering in her throat. "I still get all tongue-tied when you're near." He smiled, that lazy, heart-stopping grin that drove females from age five to fifty into a frenzy.
"You do?" he queried, pulling her closer once more.
The husky softness of his voice sent delicious shivers down her spine, and she choked on a yes.
"Me too." He stroked her cheek.
Her senses swirled at the tender touch. She placed her hand over his and gazed into his sea-green eyes. Whether a moment, an eternity, or the simple span of a heartbeat passed, she wasn’t sure, but she relished the encounter. He dropped his hand from her face and broke eye contact.
"I don't know what happened. I wanted to roam, you wanted a home." He chuckled at the corny rhyme.  "Sounds like the makings of a hit."

Thursday Thoughts: Joy

Good Morning Friends,

It's amazing how the mind works. Earlier I had no idea what to write about. Seriously, I've been in a "funk" the last couple of days. Can't pinpoint the reason. Could be a combination of fatigue, weather and the activity of the last month or so finally just catching up but Sunday and yesterday I was just plain dragged out exhausted.

Those 'feeling's followed me into the morning despite my usual prayer time. Then I scrolled through Face Book and in an instant everything within me shifted.

Joy welled up so strong, so powerful I knew what I had to write about!

Was it the funny things I saw, the cute video of a dad making his quadruplets laugh, the fact that the sun is actually shining today and it's a bit warmer, or something deeper?

The Bible teaches us that "Joy in the Lord is our strength."

The law of attraction states what you focus on you'll attract.

Abraham Hicks and other spiritual messengers exhort us to follow our bliss and to allow joy to lead the way.

I believe ALL of these are true and that joy is a powerful emotion that can not only lift you mentally but spiritually and physically.

So whatever it takes to shift your thoughts and feel joy to it's fullest, do it!

Something to think about....

Speaking of joy, Tempered Joy (along with the entire series) is on sale for $0.99 cents on Kindle, Nook & @ Smashwords thru Jan 15th!

Have a Blessed & Joyous day!

Thursday Thoughts - The Key to Happiness....

Good Morning Friends!

If you could do ONE thing with the guarantee it would change your life, would you do it?

This sounds like a pretty dumb question to me, but trust me when I say there are folks out there who would jump on this with a jubilant "Yes!" and yet others who would mumble, grumble and doubt.

But seriously, there IS one thing we can all do that will not only change our life, but the lives of those around us.

By now you're either waiting for me to reveal that secret....

Well here it is.... Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life.

As the Bible states.... "As a man thinks, therefore he is."

Yes, the key to happiness lies within YOU and only YOU can make yourself happy!

True there are circumstances and situations and people that can ADD to your happiness but unless you Choose to be happy, those things will not suffice. Oh, they may work for a while but why settle for a temporary high when you can have a life of happiness?

Something to think about!

Speaking of Choices...Check out my short story about that very same thing!

Thursday Thoughts - Guest Post by Tammy Whitehurst

Hello Friends,

Well it's a crazy Thursday in a crazy, busy week (as usual - LOL!) so today I thought I'd bring to you a very special guest post. I pray it blesses you as much as I've been blessed!

How To Have JOY In Your Journey
by Tammy Whitehurst

Giants. We all face them. They come in the form of cancer, relationships, fear of flying, a job, death, a marriage break up, or a person's past. Giants want to suffocate us, scare us, and knock the wind out of us. They leave us hopeless instead of hopeful. But the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Whatever giant is stealing your joy and breaking your heart doesn't have to control you any longer.
There comes a time when we must shake off the chains of yesterday and run forward with purpose, intention, and hope for a brighter tomorrow. We must realize what we can and cannot do. We change the changeable, accept the unchangeable, and remove the unacceptable things we are doing, which starts us on the journey to joy.
Let's be honest. Some of us have been burned out, cheated on, lied to, and stolen from. Our hearts have been broken and our souls have been beaten. The world is filled with “walking wounded” and “battered believers” who are searching for hope.
I’ve spent many days as a walking, wounded, battered believer who knew there was more to life. Don’t we all want to get better at something? Or be a better version of ourselves? I had to decide to no longer be stuck—stuck in a rut, stuck in sadness or numbness, stuck in anger, stuck spending more money on stuff I didn’t need, stuck spinning my wheels, or stuck feeling empty.
There came a time when I did the “hokey pokey” and turned myself around. I began to blame less and bless more. Frown less and laugh more. Hate less and love more. Doubt less and dream more. Gripe less and cheer more. Sit less and move more. Discourage less and encourage more. Eat less and pray more. Fear less and hope more. I could feel joy coming back! I had to get unstuck from the ruts in life and be more of who God created me to be!
It’s amazing how lost and confused we can get with the everyday. We wish our lives away. We go to work day in and day out and leave unfulfilled and unhappy. We moan, groan, and look forward to the weekend. We go through the daily grind unsatisfied. We feel insignificant as if we make no difference in the world.
I say “we,” because I am guilty of doing this and still do it from time to time. People often ask me, "Do you ever have days when you feel sad, down or worried? Do you have days where you feel drab and blah, and have a hard time getting started?" My answer is always the same: "Yes, I do! I am human." The key to my joy is that I focus on what God tells me and not what the world throws at me. It is never too late for a new beginning.
1. Say to yourself, “It’s time for a change.”
Change often means changing what you commit to do. Instead of shooting from the hip, shoot from the lip! Practice saying no to the things you need to let go of and yes to the things that will improve your life, make you better, and fill you with joy. Sometimes you have to say no to some things so you can say yes to the things you really love to do. Get a grip on the lip so every step in life won’t be exhausting. Begin saying no and refocus on what gives you joy and purpose. You are never too old to change or to have a new beginning. Your greatest accomplishments will be that you had the courage to begin and the endurance to keep going.
You must have a passion for what you do. That is the only way to have joy in your journey. Do what is right for you; no one else walks in your shoes. Move forward, keeping your eyes on the goal and never miss the blessings along the way. Do what you must to make things happen in a positive way and dismiss negativity quickly. Decide what you want and live a life you can be proud of. If there ever comes a time when your priorities have changed and you find yourself hiding from people or feeling ashamed, find the strength to start over again. Sometimes that will mean saying, “I’m sorry.”
2. Decide what is really important and stick with it.
Busyness is not a spiritual gift. It distracts you from what is really important. There is a big difference between being busy and being productive. Instead of running nowhere in every direction, walk in the direction you want to go.
Sometimes we don’t even recognize ourselves in the mirror because we have become somewhat of a chameleon. We are too many things to too many people. Make a list of the most important things in your life. List them in order. Give up the things that weigh you down and cause you to get off balance. When we are out of balance, we can become angry, stressed, snappy, and cold. When we have balance, we are more kind, caring, compassionate, and understanding. Only then can we make a profound difference in the lives of others, as well as ourselves. Compassion will have us hugging the hopeless, comforting the sad and grieving, and laughing with those who haven’t laughed in a long time.
It will not be easy to slow down, but life is kind of like riding a bicycle. In order to ride successfully, you must keep your “balance.” When you encounter bumps and bruises, get back on the bike and stay on the journey. No shortcuts!
3. Make a decision.
Life gets better when you decide to make it better. It always begins with a choice. Moaning and groaning and whining are a trap. Do not give in to this kind of behavior. Negative people pull others down with them. Positive people know what it takes to do something and will wake up to a goal.
Life is full of both challenges and opportunities. When you grasp courage and boldness with both hands, you can make a difference in not only your life but the lives of others. People are attracted to such people because when the world feels like it is crashing down, positive people will find a way out of the clutter and chaos with a grin on their faces. I want to be that kind of person.
4. Realize you can’t fix everything or everyone.
We really only control ourselves, our actions, and our thoughts. When we try to control others we become entangled in a web of confusion, frustration, and stress. No matter how hard we try, we can’t make it happen. When it looks like nothing is changing and we are manipulating a situation beyond our control, we just need to go to a quiet place, refocus, and let it go.
Choose to accept what is and what is not; let go of the need to control every detail of everyone’s lives, and search within the depths of your soul for the peace that surpasses all understanding.
5. Leave the past behind.
We all have a story to tell and a wound to heal. Most of these were dark times of our lives, times that make us shudder or tremble. Some of us visit those dark places day after day. We know it’s poison, but we continue to embrace the darkness time again. In this dark place we try to put the pieces of the puzzle back together again. We go over all the “woulda, shoulda, couldas” and think for some reason we can change the past.
Leave the pieces where they are and walk out of the dark place once and for all, knowing that the puzzle can’t be put back together the way it was. Close the door and walk into the light with your arms open wide. Put the crisis behind you and get on the path to recovery, hope, joy, and a peace that surpasses all understanding. Seek to "get even" with all those who have done right by you and stop wasting time trying to get even with those who have done you wrong.
6. Be an inspiration.
No matter how overwhelming life’s challenges and problems appear to be, or how insignificant you might feel, you can make a difference in the world. You can’t be everything to everybody, but you can still be something to someone. Most people will tell you that the reason they changed is because someone cared enough to listen and show them kindness in a world that at times is so unkind.
When our final days come, we will not remember entire days, we will remember moments. The big things we tried to accomplish often pale in the end compared to the little blessings along the way to the big thing. Don't let something that doesn't matter lose out to something that does. Take time to notice those things from this day forward. One day and one decision at a time. And taste a little joy in your journey.

Thursday Thoughts...What If?

What IF.......

.......That never ending spiral of thoughts that don't ever seem to get resolved....

What if such and so hadn't happened?
What if this or that happens?
What if he/she hadn't said that
What I'll say if......

Jesus taught us to pray "give us this day our daily bread." He told us not to worry about the future .... what good does worrying do, does it add one more hour or one more day?

And we know worrying will never change the past.

So what are we to do?

What if...for just one day we live in the moment...this moment, this day. Let us take captive any thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (love) and eradicate it from our mind (2 Corinth. 10:5) and in it's place let us consider not only our blessings, but how we may bless someone else.

Often times we think of blessing someone as giving them something... What if the only thing you can give is a heartfelt prayer on their behalf?

Seems like such a small thing. But what if that small thing...multiplied by millions of people...actually changed the world we live in?

Let us not despise the little things we can do to bless and honor our God and His creation!

Until later remember....Don’t allow the world outside and around you poison the beauty within.
