Good Morning!
It's been quite sometime since Rick visited us. He was in our spotlight last year with another of his books so please welcome him back with his latest, When Only the Nightmare Remains.
When Only the Nightmare Remains
Ghosts, demons, monsters, and of course, everyone's favorite: zombies. I decided to let them all run amok in my novel, When Only the Nightmare remains, a book that was spawned from the title itself (which I like very much, thank you).
Blurb: A town sheriff and three young boys manage to overcome an evil entity threatening their town.
Excerpt:
Emily nudged closer and closer to the spider-webbed pane of glass. The window offered little in the way of a view—being octagonal and no larger than a dinner plate— but what it did reveal was adequate to say the least. It allowed anyone gazing through it to see the lush rolling landscape surrounding the house…and all it contained.
Feeling her already weak heart pound heavily in her chest, Emily scanned the grounds intently, watching for any signs of movement, for any hint of life. For any signs of William. She held the Book tightly in her small hands, refusing to relinquish it to anything or anyone. She had only scratched the surface of its contents, but that was still enough to impart its importance to her.
Her eyes moistened with tears as she thought of earlier, happier times in her life and her marriage to William. She should have been thinking about raising a family and planting flowers around the front porch of her home. She should have been thinking about what to cook for dinner when her husband returned home from a hard day’s work. All these simple notions, ones so many young people took for granted, were well beyond her grasp. In their place were terrifying visions of a dim future. Or worse—no future at all.
Movement caught her eye, sending a fresh batch of fear down her already frail spine. She rubbed her eyes to clear them and stared at the spot where she thought she had seen something. It took only a few seconds before her fears were confirmed. Something had moved. She was sure of it, but it was not easily noticeable. Whatever was lurking in the dense foliage was crafty and using stealth to its advantage.
Despite expecting it, Emily found herself cringing from the implications. She knew what it was, slithering around the fields, worming its way closer and closer with each passing minute. She also knew that eventually, inevitably, it would reach her house. Her house. It was her house and hers alone since her beloved husband died earlier that year. Nearly eight cold, empty months had passed since that fateful day when a bullet found its way into his forehead, killing him instantly. Some said that it was a suicide. Perhaps it was, but Emily was not so sure. William had no reason to kill himself.
The pain of that day pushed its way into Emily’s heart, so slowly at first as to be almost unnoticeable, but gradually increasing in its intensity. William had been a good man and a good husband, at least he was before he had changed into a cold, cruel person wholly incapable of compassion or love.
Emily stepped back from the window and slumped into a small, worn leather-back chair. She was exhausted, both physically and emotionally, and the alluring thought of sleep entered her mind more than once. She ignored it. She had too many problems, too many things to think about to be able to enjoy a good rest. Not that she didn’t deserve it.
Outside the house, nestled snugly within the green vegetation of the fields, something waited for its chance to move, to advance toward the house and reach a solitary figure huddled in the attic of the building, and end her life.
Oh my goodness...sounds like a perfect Halloween read - if you dare! Think I'll pass though, Rick but I do wish you the best of luck and God's blessings with your books.

The Prisoner of Valathia is a
continuation of James Austin McCormick’s DRAGON space opera series and the
fourth entry in the continuing story of Sillow Low, the elf-like Sylvan, con
man, and Agency spy.
The Prisoner of Valathia takes place after Sillow’s escape from Yamerlane, a hi-tech prison,
where Darius Drake's apocalyptic plans for the humanoid home-worlds are
defeated. Now, Sillow has a new partner…Titanya the Pirate Queen.
The brash pirate queen, and the cowardly, chain-smoking elf take on their first official mission together: investigate the hijack of a prototype military stealth craft and its connection to the mysterious owner of a small mining operation.
What begins as a simple undercover mission soon becomes something far more sinister as they find themselves faceing one man’s obsession with ancient forces powerful enough to destroy them all.
The Prisoner of Valathia explores Sillow’s personal demons,
self-questioning, and existential angst. Love, duty and an obsessive desire for
belonging pull Sillow in different directions and it is up to him alone to
navigate his way along this tortuous maturational path.
EXCERPT:
Tall, raven haired,
with her femininely muscular frame squeezed into a red cocktail dress, Titanya
turned every male head as she made her way through the swarm of elite guests.
Many tried to think of ways they might meet this amazon and find out just who she
was. Even the artificial ruby eye and the silver strip across the cheek just
below merely added to her allure. These admirers, however, would have been more
than a little surprised to learn the object of their interest was once a
“pirate queen,” and the scourge of big corporation haulers everywhere. They
would have been equally shocked to discover she was also a fearsome
hand-to-hand fighter and one of the long gloves she wore covered a cybernetic
arm powerful enough to punch through solid steel.
Few noticed her
companion. Like most of the Sylvan race, Sillow was of smallish stature with
elfin features making him appear somewhat childlike compared to other humanoid
races. In contrast to Titanya’s easy grace, he looked awkward and faintly
ridiculous wearing a tuxedo a couple of sizes too big for him.
There was a scowl on
his light green features.
“This was really the
best you could do?” he complained, rolling his jacket cuffs up as he hurried to
keep up with the woman’s swaying strides.
Titanya smiled. “It was
the smallest they had.”
Sillow’s emerald eyes
swept the area. “This place makes me nervous.”
“Lots of things make
you nervous,” the woman told him.
The Sylvan snatched up
a couple of champagne glasses from a passing waiter and drank each one down
before replacing them.
“Listen,” he protested,
“these events are packed with high price assassins. It’s the perfect chance for
the elite psychopaths who come to these events to settle scores with each
other.”
“So, why do you care?”
the woman asked.
“Why? Because sometimes
things get out of hand and all hell breaks loose.”
Titanya stopped, hands
on her shapely hips. “Really, that could happen, could it? High class parties
can just end up as shooting galleries?”
Sillow nodded. “Yep.”
“Give me one example,
date, and place.”
Sillow pulled at one of
his pointed ears.
“You can’t, can you?”
Titanya challenged.
“I heard stories.”
The woman gave a
derisive snort. “Yeah, in a low-life bar or casino.”
“Well, actually, it was
in the pleasure quarters on Salem Tae when—”
“I don’t want to know,”
his companion stopped him. “Why are you even an agent anyway? I never met
anyone as easily spooked as you.”
The Sylvan threw her an
irritated look. “Hey, I don’t ask for these missions.”
“So why do they send
you?”
“Because I’m the best
pilot in known space, and I do sneaky well.” He gave a shrug. “What can I say?
It’s a gift.” He snatched up another couple of drinks from a tray. This time he
held one out to his companion. “Here, it helps the nerves.”
Titanya took the glass.
“My nerves are fine, pipsqueak, but I do like champagne.”
Wow...sounds intriguing! Where can we find Prisoner Valatia?
DRAGON: The Prisoner of Valathia is available at amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Prisoner-James-Austin-McCormick-ebook/dp/B0721RR55Q/

What does it mean to be human? How can we explain evil in the world? What if an AI confronts you about a flaw in your programming?
Join Jeremiah Xidorn as he is taken from the world he thinks he knows into a place of decision. Will he side with his captors; will he fight back? Delve into these and other questions…
Excerpt:
“I’ve been promoted. I am now in my boss’ position.” Joe flailed his arms with glee.
“That’s great. Congratulations!” they all said in unison.
“Where’s Joe?”
“I don’t know. He just left. An appointment I guess,” Sarah responded.
“The ’droids are settin’ things up, so I’ll stay out of their hair for a bit.” Something was off, but he couldn’t pin it down. “I’ll find him,” he told himself and bolted for his new office.
The androids had done their work quicker than expected, and Jeremiah’s office was quiet when he got there. He had to use the scanner to get in. Immediately, he was taken aback. On his desk were pictures of his family that he didn’t put there. Setting that thought aside for the moment, he jacked into the phone system and sent the sequence to dial.
He called Joe’s office. No answer. A moment later, he called the central office to see if Joe could be located.
The automated attendant replied, “We are sorry, that person is no longer employed at this company.”
A sense of panic raised the hair on the back of his neck. Immediately, he ran with every ounce of strength to his friend’s office. It was empty. No trace that Joe worked there or had ever worked there was found. It was swept clean.
“Maybe I went to the wrong place,” he thought. “All these offices look the same.”
To his own chagrin, he knew too well the location of his friend’s office. The paranoia built to a steady state when, upon finding his other compatriots, they had no knowledge
that Joe had ever been part of their group. Jeremiah’s heart sank. He even checked the payroll office and no trace of his friend could be found.
There was no mistake. Joe had been intentionally erased.
Uhhhh....OK...sounds intriguing! Dark City can be purchased from Class Act Books, Amazon (UK) and Smashwords!
Hope you enjoyed today's post and that you'll check back weekly to see what (if anything) is happening on Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlight!
Until next time take care and God bless.

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Toni V Sweeney and Sinbad’s Triumph
Good Morning from Nibblet's Bluff Park in Vinton/Starks Louisiana!
Today's guest has shared treasures with us before but she's still relatively new to our blog so please give Toni V Sweeney a great big welcome with her brand new book, Sinbad's Triumph.
Today's guest has shared treasures with us before but she's still relatively new to our blog so please give Toni V Sweeney a great big welcome with her brand new book, Sinbad's Triumph.
Sinbad’s Triumph is Book 5 in the Adventures of Sinbad sci-fi series
published by Class Act Books.
Blurb for Sinbad’s Triumph:
The
most wanted smuggler in the Galaxy is now a Felidan businessman. Breaking his
promise to his wife, Sinbad sh’en Sigh intended to again become a smuggler, but
the Federation spoils his fun by declaring his efforts a legitimate enterprise.
Things
are going smoothly until an old rival threatens to steal Sin's newly-acquired
territories and the resulting war brings a terrible price. The House sh’en
Singh is forced to witness the most difficult challenge to Andi’s love for
their pride chief when Sin crashes his ship and doesn't walk away from the
wreckage.
Now a disabled invalid, Sin must learn to depend
on others with his own stubbornness and Andi’s love to keep him going.
Excerpt:
In perhaps
the fastest ceremony ever performed, Adam and Shalimar found themselves husband
and wife. When the priest asked for the ring, Sin had to loan his son his own marriage band because Adam had always refused to follow the Felidan custom of wearing a
mate’s ring in his left earlobe. Once the ring was slipped onto Shali’s finger,
they were ushered into the dining room where the cook had concocted a hasty
wedding meal.
As Adam
escorted his bride to her seat, Shali was deluged with hugs from Andi, N’Sagar
and Andrea, while Kas, his uncle Allan, cousin Tran, and half-brother Andrew Tas again
ave Adam good-natured slaps on the back. Extricating his wife from her new
in-laws’ embraces, he pulled out Shali’s chair, made certain she was
comfortable and sat
beside her.
After the
uproar and the haste of the ceremony itself, the meal was subdued. To the men’s amusement, Adam ate his food as
fast as he could, devouring whatever was offered to him as if he couldn’t clear
his plate fast enough, while Shalimar picked delicately
at her portions the way she generally did.
“God, Uncle
Adam.” The exclamation burst from Andrea. “Don’t eat so fast. You’re going to
get indigestion.”
“Yeah,” her
twin agreed. “You can’t enjoy your wedding night if you’ve a bellyache.” Then,
he blushed, studied his plate and mumbled, “Sorry.”
Wiping his
mouth with his napkin, Adam dropped it to the table and got to his feet. He
looked around the table. “I want to thank all of you for being here, especially
on such short
notice, and I don’t want to appear rude, but my bride and I have a number of
items to discuss.”
Reaching
for Shali’s hand, he pulled her to her feet, kissed her quickly, then swept her
into his arms and ran through the door. The sound of his boots on the stairs floated
back into the room, accompanied by a low feminine trill.
Andi looked
surprised. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard Shalimar giggle before.”
“Perhaps
she’s never had anything to giggle about,” Sin said mildly, standing also. He
caught Andi’s hand. “Thank you all for coming. Stay and enjoy the dessert
Cook’s prepared.
Now, if you’ll excuse us, your grandmother and I have a few things of our own to
talk about.”
Before
anyone could speak, he caught Andi around the waist and swung her into his
arms, copying Adam’s dash for the door.
Behind
them, came Andrew Tas’ sarcastic comment, “Who are they kidding? Nobody’s going
to be discussing anything tonight.”
This year, Toni V. Sweeney celebrated her 74th birthday
and penned her 74th novel.
Toni has lived 30 years in the South, a score in the Middle West,
and a decade on the Pacific Coast and now she’s trying for her second 30 on the
Great Plains.

Good Morning!
It's a COLD one up here at Kincaid Lake. The park host had to turn the water off yesterday...someone backed into something...anyway, hopefully they'll have it up and running soon today. Fortunately we got here early enough to fill up the water tank, so we'll be OK until it's back on.
Anyway, today's guest, Mark Wayne Allen has shared Treasures, Thoughts and Spotlights with us before but today, he's telling us about his brand new release, Introspection!

Anyway, today's guest, Mark Wayne Allen has shared Treasures, Thoughts and Spotlights with us before but today, he's telling us about his brand new release, Introspection!
What would life be like if anyone could be removed from
history?
This is a question that Melvin Travis is forced to deal
with. He hates all of humanity with good reason. He has virtually no past and
he sees no hope for the future.
A rational person would wonder how an entire book could be
coherently filled with a story about such a character. Well, I have to tell
you, it wasn't easy. Melvin's dark outlook on life was something that I
continually had to tinker with to pull him through this novel.
The background of the book is trying to stop dark forces who
have hatched reverse time technology. This could revert anyone to a young child
or eliminate their conception altogether with unimaginable, horrendous,
results. Anguish quickly sets into Melvin as you can imagine with explosive
results.
As a writer, I loved the thrill of Melvin's character. It
was an amazing ride! Originally, I had a very different structure in mind, but
it seemed like each time I said, "Melvin, turn left," he'd say,
"No, let's go right."
The background scenes make the story. Tom, Melvin's friend
that pulls him into this mess, leaves him unexpectedly but Melvin continues on.
With a surprising ending that shocked even me, "Introspection" is an
interesting tale about a hero with few redeeming qualities.
Mark Wayne Allen was born in Merryvillle, Louisiana where he now resides, but has lived in many states. Due to life tragedies, he is a quadriplegic.
A love of books inspired him to write down his own stories, which, over the years, has evolved to include all categories. From poetry to short stories to novels, his knowledge of the craft grew over time, and so did his love for it.
He wrote two short stories and several poems that were published in a short-lived e-zine called Dementia. In 2013, he published the science fiction book Star Siege which was written during his years at Louisiana State University. Since then, he has placed in several contests since and even had a first place poem. He writes regularly for The Voice Of Southwest Louisiana Magazine.
Having lived in the North, South, East, and West has given him the opportunity to talk with a diverse group of people as well as an appreciation for different cultures. Currently, he lives with his wife of many years, Kelley, and is an active part of the community. You can keep up with Mark through his Website,Facebook and Twitter.
Hope you enjoyed today's spotlight and that you'll drop by next week for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and another edition of Saturday Spotlight.
Until next time, good luck and God Bless.

As you know, I'm always excited to share authors and books with you, especially when it is someone I've never spotlighted before.
Today's guest is brought to us by Prime Star Publicity.
A writer, teacher, and church planter, Trey has been blogging on spiritual, family and personal topics since 2009.
He lives in Morgantown, WV.
Now let's find out a little about Trey's novel, The Beams of our House...
Sol 203119 hates Coupling—the forced dating and mating technique initiated across the United Cities as populations consolidated, gender tensions mounted, human reproduction plummeted, and marriage fell out of style—but he doesn’t know why. But when a fourth classmate at the Academy commits suicide, he follows the prompting of a mysterious voice and goes in search of a way out of the City for him and his classmates at the Academy.
Thousands of miles away, Lill, an orphan Wild, raised by strict and overprotective brothers, discovers she is part of an ancient prophecy that will bring to an end the longstanding battle between the Spirits of the City and Wilderness. Em, a mysterious, spiritual recluse, mentors Lill in her preparation: caring for refugees who have fled the City in search of a better life.
Able to escape the City, Sol slowly adapts to life in the difficult and dangerous Wilderness. He discovers a community of healthy, loving, committed families, but when a special ops team from the City nearly captures him, community leaders decide the time has come to unite and resurrect an ancient rite of the Spirit of the Wilderness: marriage.
Waiting anxiously for his return, a small contingent of Sol’s classmates from the Academy form an underground community in the heart of the City, which they call ‘the Banner.’ Meanwhile, Sol and Lill travel separately to witness the first wedding in centuries; the City counters with a deadly attack. In spite of massive casualties, a small remnant survives. And in a narrow underground cavern, the bruised and battered Sol and Lill meet for the first time.
Excerpt:
Washington, DC: The U.S.
Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) announced today recommendations
made to federal and state legislatures to suspend all laws and regulations
related to the issuing of marriage licenses, effectively ending a practice which
had been in steep decline over the previous two decades. DHHR Executive
Director David Berkeley said, “The psychological, economic, and legal weight of
marriage places a significant burden upon the health and well-being of
individuals and society as whole.
In light of these health concerns and
declining participation by the
general populace, the DHHR is recommending that federal and state lawmakers
suspend all policies
related to marriage.
Additionally, we ask that any binding legal restrictions to those
currently married, especially as pertains to divorce and separation, be
waived.”
Lawmakers at the federal and state
levels, which enter sessions next
month, plan to review the measure. Several states already have resolutions on the docket in support
of the DHHR recommendation.

Virtual Book Blast Guest - Roy McConnell
Hello Again Friends!
Hope you're week is going well. If not so far, I pray it gets better!
Today's VBB guest is Roy McConnell and his book, Mind Walker brought to you by Premium Promotional Services.
About Roy McConnell
Roy McConnell is multi-published in short & novel length fiction *Thrillers That GRIP You To The End!* MIND WALKER, released September of 2009 is a suspense/thriller loaded with action, romance, and even a twist of sci-fi. McConnell was selected as a Rising Star author on the Barnes and Noble website. Mind Walker has been in the top twenty novels of the Rising Star series since publication.
About “Mind Walker”
For more than four hundred years, the males of the Ostermann family have unleashed their secret power on the world, destroying lives and amassing great fortunes. But five centuries prior, the first woman to inherit the identical gene as the males foretold that another female would be born with the same power. It was she who would stand against the madness of the Ostermann reign. No one knew when she would come…until now.
In present-day British Columbia, Wolf Ostermann rules his exotic estate with an iron fist. Ostermann has no son to continue his family legacy, so if he and his family are to maintain their economic grip on the world, Wolf must indoctrinate his reluctant daughter, Tara. Unfortunately for Wolf, Tara will have nothing to do with him anymore, and that doesn’t bode well for the tyrannical megalomaniac.
Now on the run, Tara and ex-CIA operative Chris Landry must battle for their lives as they ultimately realize the tenacious reach of her father’s powerful mind-and the evil it unleashes on all of humanity.
Bursting with raw emotion, Mind Walker combines action and suspense in a nonstop ride from the landscapes of British Columbia to the Caribbean Islands, and ends in a chilling climax in New York City.
Jo-Anne Vandermeulen Interviews Roy McConnell
1.) How long have you been writing?
I have been writing since I was twelve years old. A school friend of mind started me writing poetry. Him and I used to compete with our poetry. At the time it seemed like we were writing some brilliant stuff.
2.) What motivated you to write this electrifying thriller, “Mind Walker”?
About eight years ago I began to realize how much satisfaction I derived from writing. I thought I wanted to develop my writing further and joined a writers group and started taking workshops. It was in a workshop with a published author, who turned out to be my mentor for over a year, that I got the idea to write a book. Music had always been my inspiration for writing, so one night listening to Pink Floyd I got the first insights into Mind Walker.
3.) Who would enjoy reading “Mind Walker”?
I continue to ask myself this question. It seems that Mind Walker has a very broad audience appeal. Men and Women from ages 16 to 80 have read and enjoyed the book.
Even many who don’t normally read thrillers have told me they enjoyed it.
Mind Walker has a bit of everything. I guess that is why it has such broad appeal.
I was listening to one of Steve Berry’s podcasts the other day and I believe Mind Walker as something he describes as the wow or oooohhhh factor. When I describe the book to people I get the wow response.
4.) What’s next for Author Roy McConnell?
I am working on a sequel for Mind Walker and so far I am getting very positive feedback from my writers group on its development. I also have a third book in the works based on a character from Mind Walker.
5.) Where can viewers/followers/friends/fans interact with you?
On Facebook, GoodReads, email me from my website, Twitter, or Linkedin.

6.) Would you like to add any closing thoughts today?
I always find it amazing, when I sit down to write and I think the story is going to go a certain direction, but when the thoughts and ideas start flowing freely they often form themselves much differently than I had planned.
