#SaturdaySpotlight is on Monique DeVere & The Wedding Favor

Good Morning and Welcome to the last Saturday Spotlight in November 2019!

I'm a little late posting today as for the first time in a LONG time I slept past 4 am LOL! I hope your Thanksgiving was Blessed and Happy and that you're not too worn out from Black Friday shopping. Speaking of which, I'm having a huge Flash Sale on my Tempered series. If you have readers on your list I hope you'll consider getting them autographed, print copies.

Today's guest hasn't visited since 2015 when she shared thoughts with us so please give Monque a huge, SWLA welcome as she gives us a peek into her latest release, The Wedding Favor....

When unlucky-in-love Erin Hart’s workaholic boss asks her to attend a family wedding as his fake girlfriend, hiding her secret crush becomes an impossible task.

A wedding favor for her secret crush…

When unlucky-in-love personal assistant Erin Hart enters her boss’s New York office to resign her job, she doesn’t expect to exit as his fake-girlfriend for an upcoming family wedding. How is she going to keep her crush a secret when she has to share a room… and a bed… with Max for one sizzling weekend in the UK?

Workaholic CEO Max Ferrell understands women only too well: they either want his body or his money. But fiery, sexy Erin is different and recruiting her to help curtail his over-zealous, matchmaking sisters is proving that it’s far more fun to play while you work. Especially when his prim and proper PA helps him to set the sheets ablaze. But falling for her was not in the plan and if he’s not careful, the next wedding might be his own.

Excerpt: “Look out!” A female voice shouted a second before a wave of water hit the top of Erin Hart’s head and cascaded down her body.

Erin squealed, jerking back way too late to avoid disaster. It was just her bad luck to be passing a cafĂ© awning the moment someone decided to upend the canopy of collected rainwater from last night’s heavy downpour. One minute, she’d been striding along East 23rd Street at 7:15 a.m. trying to work up the courage to resign her job. The next, she stood—shocked motionless—dripping wet in the middle of the sidewalk.

Max Ferrell, CEO of Ferrell Alliance, Inc, the real estate investment firm on Madison Avenue where she worked, had been hijacking her thoughts for the last three years—and especially this morning—leaving her oblivious to the potential hazard ahead.

Clutching her tote with one hand as she worked to catch the breath the sudden splash of chilled water had snatched, she swiped the other down the front of her brown office dress. Did she really hope she would be able to brush the wetness from the material as easily as she would a speck of dust? When her frantic effort made little difference, she shook herself, much like Buttercup—her teacup Yorkshire terrier—would have.

Sensing eyes on her, she glanced at a couple of snickering teenage girls in tight jeans and tighter T-shirts who gave her a wide berth as they passed.

Suddenly aware of the spectacle she was making; she raised her chin, squared her shoulders, pasted on a smile, and forced one sensible-pumped foot in front of the other until the momentum had her fast-pacing it to Ferrell Alliance, Inc.

Of course, she accumulated countless stares on her way, but she’d faced humiliation more than once in her lifetime. By now, it was a piece of cherry pie to her. Even her crush on Max was proving humiliating. How much longer would she be able to hide the fact that he made her heart pound and her insides flutter?

Her cell jingled from deep inside her brown leather tote and she dove for it. Without checking, she knew who was calling. It would be her sister Nicole, wondering whether she’d given Max her resignation. That would be a big fat no. She’d attempted to hand it in several times over the last week but, each time, Max’s reliance on her as his PA got in the way. It was now Monday, the start of a fresh week and she still had the pristine envelope in her handbag. Every time she pictured handing him her resignation it sent nervous sensations and sorrow swirling in her belly.

Her family needed her and, instead of leaving New York and returning to Baltimore to help her three sisters save the family business, she’d allowed her monumental crush on her boss and his dependence on her to stall her. As a result, her sisters were struggling to keep Hart to Hart Restorations afloat without any help from her.

It took four stabs before her wet fingers managed to let her answer the call, while Nicole’s smiling face stared at her from the screen.

“Hi, Nik. Before you ask, no, I haven’t told Max I’m leaving yet. I’ll do it soon. Promise.” Just as soon as she came to terms with not getting to see Max five days a week—sometimes more when she traveled with him on business trips. She was going to miss her job. Miss the business trips and the challenge of being his assistant. But most of all she was going to miss Max.

“It’s not looking good, hon. We could really use your help around here.”

Guilt washed over her right about the same time a speeding taxi sailed through a deep puddle of settled water and she experienced her second dousing of the morning. Dripping wet, she clutched the phone at her side with a death-grip, trying to catch her breath. A bubble of laughter tickled her belly, and she saw the funny side. Here she was, trying to look calm, cool and pristine enough to hand in her notice to Max, only for some wicked, unseen imp to have fun at her expense.

“Erin?” Nicole’s voice filtered through the cell. Obviously hearing Erin’s laugh, which probably veered close to hysteria, had her sister wondering what had happened.

Bringing the phone to her ear, she swiped the back of her other hand across her eyes. “I’ll call you later, Nik.” She cut the call, wishing she could rewind and start her morning again.

Every time she’d ever taken a risk it had turned out to be a huge mistake. Deciding to walk to work today instead of taking a taxi just proved she shouldn’t take risks. She closed her eyes and in that moment the last three years flashed through her mind. What was she doing? She’d meant to lay low working as Max’s PA, desperate to avoid the people who’d witnessed her humiliating experience back home when her fiancĂ© had jilted her on the night of their wedding rehearsal.

All she’d wanted was time to heal emotionally until she was able to branch out on her own and start her dream business of flipping houses. Instead, she’d developed a crush on her boss and now she was putting her futile attachment to him before her family’s needs. Up until now, she’d hesitated, afraid of losing Max. But really, she never had him. He barely noticed she existed. She heaved in a deep breath, then released it on a sigh. Every thought of him came with a painful pinch at his rejection. The only way she would get over her crush was to put as many miles between the two of them as she could. The notion made her heart hurt, but working with Max and knowing he just didn’t see her as more than his assistant hurt more. Being so close to him, yet not being free to do anything about her feelings made her days impossible to bear.

It was time she started taking risks. Time she took back control of her life. And it started with handing Max Ferrell her resignation.

Monique DeVere grew up on a plantation on the beautiful island of Barbados, where her childhood was all about exploring and letting her imagination run free. She moved to the UK as a teen and soon fell in love at first sight with her amazing, strong-silent-type husband. They have four beautiful children, three incredible granddaughters, and one adorable Yorkshire terrier.

Monique writes sweet ‘n’ spicy romantic comedy, and when she isn’t working on the next novel or movie script, she can be found spending time with hubby and family, armchair traveling, creating recipes, reading, walking, gardening, or simply crazy-dancing around the house. Meanwhile, I'll close with this poem I wrote a few years ago.....

A day set aside for grateful hearts
To express gratitude to God for gifts He imparts.

Since His mercies are new every morning, Dear
Shouldn’t we Thank Him each day of the year?

When you gather with family and those you love
Please remember to give Thanks and Praise to God above.

Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, His mercy endures forever! (1 Chron. 16:34)

Until next time, take care, God Bless and Remember.... An attitude of gratitude is one of your greatest assets.

Something to think about

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Beverly Bateman and The Fourth Victim

Good Morning Friends and Welcome!

I pray you had a good week and that your upcoming Thanksgiving week will be blessed.

I introduced you to Beverly Bateman last month when she shared some words with us on healthy eating. Today, we get a peek into her novel, The Foundation, The Fourth Victim, Sarah's Story

Sara’s emotionally abusive husband dies unexpectedly. She’s struggling to reclaim the intelligent, independent person she was before she married.  She vows never to let a man take over her life again. Now she’s part of a special team, training to help other women.

Mac is has been responsible for training women in special ops techniques so they are prepared when they are challenged to save other women. When he meets Sara, sparks fly between them. He wants her to quit the training and let him take care of her.
Sara graduates and now she and her team have to save Sara’s daughter from a serial killer. Can Mac step back and trust her in a dangerous situation? Can Sara and Mac resolve their issues, or will they go in opposite directions?

Excerpt:
The office said he’d had a heart attack. Was he alive? Did she want him to be? What if her husband had to stay home for a few weeks to recuperate? Palms sweating, Sara’s breath came in short, shallow bursts at the thought.

The taxi jerked to a stop in front of the hospital emergency entrance.

Sara fumbled through her purse and counted out her meager number of dollar bills. Gordon didn’t allow her to have a credit card and he only allowed her to have a small amount of cash. She didn’t have enough money to pay the taxi.

“I’m so sorry. I left home without any cash. I... I ... Would you take a check?” Tears spilled over and trickled down her flushed cheeks.

The driver spun around. A short stubby finger waved at the sign over the rearview mirror. “Look lady, it says right there - No Checks.”

“I know, I know. I’m sorry. My husband’s had a heart attack and I ... I don’t know what to do.” Sara ran her fingers through her hair and scrunched the tight bun at her neck.

The driver shook his head. “Aw, shit. Go ahead, lady. Write the check.”

Sara pulled the single crumpled check Gordon allowed her carry for emergencies out of her purse. When she touched the check a vision of Gordon floated in front of her.

She froze and rapidly blinked her eyes. She only saw the ghosts of dead people. Could he really be dead?

“Gordon?” she whispered.

“Lady, are you writing that check or not?”

“Yes, sorry.” Sara scribbled her signature on the bottom of the check. “Please, fill it in, and give yourself a generous tip. Thank you, thank you so much.” She clutched her worn purse to her chest, slid out of the cab, and scurried through the emergency room doors.

What if he was dead? She didn’t have any money. Gordon did all the finances and never shared anything with her.  How would she manage?

Twenty years ago she could have handled it. Could she do it again? But he couldn’t be dead. Gordon would never allow that to happen.

His face flitted in front of her, fixed in an angry glare.

He had to be dead or she wouldn’t be seeing him. He didn’t want to be dead. He didn’t want her to be free. If he thought she could see him he’d be furious.

Sara shuffled toward the reception desk. She glanced over her shoulder, searching for some sign of Gordon, listening for his voice, waiting for him to yell at her. She couldn’t believe he was really dead, even though she had seen him. She clung to the edge of the transition counter, her head down, chewed on her lower lip and waited to be noticed.

Finally a brusque voice snapped, “Can I help you?”

Sara looked up to see a heavy set, older woman in a loose blue top. The woman’s thick dark brows met in a v in the middle of her forehead.

“I’m sorry, I ...I’m looking for my husband. His office phoned to say he’d been brought here.” Sara shrunk into her body.

 “Name?” the woman commanded.

“Gordon, Gordon Peters.” Sara stared at her worn black oxfords, then at the scuffed, gray linoleum with the red, blue and yellow lines that led to different areas.  Maybe she shouldn’t have come. Maybe she should have waited for Gordon to call and tell her whether she should be here or not. But if he was dead she would have to make her own decisions. Her pulse raced. Her head pounded. For the last nineteen years she had never made a decision. Gordon made all of them for her.

Oh wow...sounds like an interesting read Beverly! Good luck and God's blessings with it.

Murder, mystery and romance fills award-winning, Canadian author, Beverley Bateman's life. She loves to plot, kill and hopefully baffle the reader. Her nursing and public health nursing background helps with some details and administering a community care facility program had her investigating and directing investigations into irregularities and sometimes a death. She even has court experience.

She began writing in her preteens and loved to write locked room mysteries. Reading Nancy Drew helped her figure out plots. Facing breast cancer, she decided she needed to do what she’d always wanted and began to write. She completed her first romantic suspense novel and hasn’t stopped writing since. She recently moved and now lives among ranches and wheat fields in southern Alberta, with her husband and Shiba Inu dog.

#WednesdayWordswithFriends Tempered Dreams in Audio!

Good Morning Friends,

We've been having some beautiful weather here in SW Louisiana....cool nights and days in the 70's...PERFECT if you ask me! I'd love it if we had this year around.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

My scheduled guest could not be here today so I thought I'd take this time to share some exciting news with you....

Tempered Dreams is now in audio!

For those of you who are new to me and our blog, here is the blurb and an excerpt.....

Dr. Scott Hensley (introduced in Tempered Hearts) has built a wall around his heart since the death of his wife and parents.  Katrina Simmons is recovering from scars inflicted on her as a battered wife.  Can dreams be renewed and faith strengthened?  Can they find joy and peace in God’s love and in love for one another?

Excerpt: “Spend the day with me,” he urged. “We’ll go to my place. I’ll take a short nap after which we’ll do whatever your little heart desires.”

“Anything?” she teased.
Her voice was as enticing as silk and just as alluring. Her excitement set fire to his blood. “Anything.” he assured in a thick voice.

His smoldering gaze, as tender as a caress and just as potent, lowered to her lips, lingered, then raked over her in a hungry gesture before returning to capture hers in a heated embrace. Trina felt as though he was touching her in the most intimate of ways. Her cheeks grew hot, her breath lodged in her throat. Desire washed over her in angry waves. She swallowed hard and tucked trembling hands in her lap, desperately trying to form a coherent sentence. “Please, Scott, don’t look at me like that.”

He could actually feel her trembling response across the table. His voice lowered another notch. “Like what?”

Trina shook her head. “Like you’re starving to death and could eat me up. Didn’t you have enough food?”

Pushing his plate away, Scott stood and held his hand out to her. Trina placed a trembling one in his firm grip. Pulling her gently to her feet, Scott raised it to his mouth, brushing his lips across her knuckles. “Food is not what I’m hungry for,” he informed her in a husky whisper.

Trina waited as he paid for their meal then followed him to the parking lot as gracefully as possible on legs that wobbled. He paused and in a silent gesture, signaled for her to give him her car keys. His fingers brushed sensuously over her wrist and palm, grasping hers gently when she placed them in his hand.

Locking his heated gaze with hers, Scott raised their clasped hands to his lips, this time lingering over the kiss. He nibbled on her knuckles, teasing the back of her hand with his mouth, then, in one swift movement, turned his attention to the sensitive flesh of her palm and wrist, relieving her of her keys and her senses.

Trina felt the caress to the very core of her being. She moaned, leaning against his hard frame when he pulled her closer. His heat enveloped her until she burned with him, for him. And his lips had never even touched hers.

Part of me feels guilty for not coming up with a smart, witty post for today but to tell you the truth, I'm plain wore out. Medicare AEP is 1/2 over (ends Dec. 7th) and it's been B...U....S....Y! So busy in that I had to schedule brake maintenance on my car at 7:30 this morning. I'm even working on Saturday!

Never fear though, our Saturday Spotlight will be up before I head into the office.

After it's over though, I hope to get back to posting each month and promise to do my best to share meaningful words with you - Friends.

Until next time, take care and God bless.

#SaurdaySpotlight is on Lillian Duncan & All I Want for Christmas is Johnny Rocker Dead!

Good Morning!

There are only a couple of days left in my Grateful contest. If you haven't entered, it's simple. Just leave a comment on the FB event of what you're grateful for and you'll be in the drawing for a 'Grateful Box'!

If you search for Lillian Duncan, you'll see she is no stranger our blog, so please give her a great, big Welcome Back....

Murder, Mayhem & Christmas?

Every year my publisher puts on a Christmas Extravaganza! I love that word—extravaganza. It’s fun to say. Anyway…what’s a Christmas Extravaganza? My publisher releases a group of novellas with a Christmas theme and for a certain time they’re only 99 cents!

How’s that for an extravaganza?

Murder, Mayhem & Christmas? Really?

On the surface, it may seem that murder and mayhem doesn’t necessarily go with Christmas, but I love weaving a Christmas story in with suspense and romance. I have several Christmas stories available—The Christmas Stalking; The Christmas Angel Thief; No Home for the Holidays; and A Christmas Stolen.

This year’s new Christmas novella is ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS JOHNNY ROCKER DEAD!

How’s that for a title filled with murder, mayhem, & Christmas?

Johnny Rocker considers himself a rock and roll god and therefore, he doesn’t need God. But as with all of us, God has a way of getting our attention when he wants it.

Maddie Cotton’s plan for Christmas are simple. She’s quitting her bodyguard job because it’s time for a change in her life. But one simple word changes those plans—Nineveh.

So exactly how does God get Johnny Rocker’s attention and what does Nineveh have to do with it? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

I won’t tell you the plot but I will tell you that story is about how much God loves each of us—no matter what we’ve done. And isn’t that what Christmas is really all about?

Merry Christmas to all!

Lillian Duncan…turning faith into fiction.

Even though her books cross genres, they have one thing in common, faith-based stories that show God’s love—and lots of action. OK—that’s two things. She believes in the power of words to change lives, especially God’s Word.

Lillian is a multi-published writer with several Amazon bestsellers, including The Christmas Stalking and Betrayed. Lillian writes the types of books she loves to read—fast-paced suspense with a touch or two of romance that demonstrates God’s love for all of us

Whether as an educator, a writer, or a speech pathologist, she believes in the power of words to transform lives, especially God’s Word.

To learn more about Lillian and her books, visit: www.lillianduncan.net. Tiaras & Tennis Shoes is her personal blog at www.lillian-duncan.com.

All I Want for Christmas is Johnny Rocker Dead! can be found at Amazon.

Hope you enjoyed today's spotlight and that you'll check back weekly for Wednesday Words with Friends and another Saturday Spotlight!

Until next time take care and God bless.

#WednesdayWordswithFriends welcomes Rachel Barreiros!

Good Morning Friends,

It's still COLD (by my standards LOL!) here in SW Louisiana. Medicare AEP is crazy busy as usual but I'm hanging in there. Lots of things going on. If you haven't visited my FaceBook page or website in a while or signed up for my newsletter, you're missing out on my GRATEFUL contest. Check it out in the sidebar too!

Today's guest is a writer of poems and children's books aspiring to be published so if you or someone you know is an agent or editor please feel free to reach out to her. Rachel would love to secure an agent or publisher while her mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, can still celebrate with her.

Here is a sample of her work....

ME IN MY SHOES
(c) Rachel Barreiros

I stood on my feet,
My feet stood in my shoes,
They both looked up at me,
Asking, "What should we do?"
My feet skipped and hopped,
Then they ran out the door,
Taking me on adventures,
Places to explore.
I can't believe what I'm achieving,
Doing things my shoes choose,
My shoes are so fearless and strong--
Oh! That's me in my shoes!

Superhero Girl
(c) Rachel Barreiros

Ellie wanted an Earth Day birthday that shocked the girls and rocked the world. She caught a thought and thought a lot and thought actually a hero party would hit the spot! A hero can be anyone, anyone at all. Heroes can be little or big, or small or tall. A boy or girl, and at her party, girls above all. Ellie and her friends will dance with capes, dance and tap, and skip and traipse. They'll march to the birthday song and solve problems of the world, but most of all, and best of all, they'll celebrate the power of a superhero girl.

Children’s book writer and poet, Rachel Barreiros, is a wife, a mother of two, a long-time business owner, a dog mom of three, an interior designer at heart and a notable and tremendous animal lover who loves God and loves children, and seems to have a special connection with kids. Her family affectionately calls her Snow White because animals, children and all things innocent flock to her and love her because she has such a sweet and tenderhearted way about her that is appealing and trustworthy.

A former winner of a broadcasting network’s poetry contest, she has been a copywriter, written a published article, studio-recorded corporate on-hold messaging, and ghostwrote a poem that received honors. Some of her work can be viewed on her website and much of it can be read and enjoyed on her Facebook page. She has written a book series of alphabet books, one book per every letter of the alphabet, taking the reader on an eye-opening journey that reveals tangible letters all around them. She is confident that this series is a gem that will come to be a household name.

Rachel is currently seeking a literary agent and publisher for these captivating books that are truly a one-of-a-kind, fun-to-say wordplay, fact-finding, letter-spying adventure. She has written two other children’s book series, one of them representing the greatness that we are capable of through love and helpfulness, and the other celebrates diversities and idiosyncrasies in the many structures of families. Additionally, she has written two other children’s books, one of which retells a sweet story between herself and one of her daughters when she was very young. All these books yearn to be published and take a sweet spot on bookstore shelves.

Most recently, Rachel had the opportunity to read one of her unpublished books to some of St Lucia’s resident children who are members of Sandals Foundation, but the children still being out of school for the summer during her visit brought an obstacle that the foundation was not able to overcome. She hopes to be presented with the same opportunity with foundation children of the Bahamas in several months. Rachel is ready to become a published children’s book author and has many more book ideas ready to write and bring to life. She greatly looks forward to meeting readers and readers’ parents at book signings and readings in bookstores.

Find out more about Rachel by visiting her Website and connecting with her on Facebook and Twitter.

Wow, Rachel, great work! We certainly wish you the best of luck and God's blessings.

Hope you enjoyed today's post friends and that you'll check back weekly for Wednesday Words with Friends and Saturday Spotlight!

Until next time take care and God bless.

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Sloan McBride & The Treasure

Good Morning and a COLD one it is here in SW LA!

I hope you're warm and cozy wherever you are. I'm doing my best to stay comfortable. Laundry is going, sitting with grand babies (although 15 & 10 deem then no longer 'babies' LOL!) and bringing you the latest Saturday Spotlight. If you're a subscriber to my newsletter, watch for a very special announcement Monday the 11th (and here's a quick SALUTE to all Veterans and their families out there!!) .... lots of new stuff coming so if you're not a subscriber, join now.

Also, the huge, Thankful for Our Readers giveaway ends tomorrow so enter the contest today.

I introduced Sloan McBride to you last month on Wednesday Words with Friends. Today she gives us a peek into her novel, The Treasure.

Take it away Sloan!

‘A Pirate’s Life for Me,’ that is Celeste’s plan. Revenge drives her to be daring. Attacks by smoke demons, and the appearance of a swashbuckling rogue—a handsome rogue with magickal powers—detracts her from the mission and reveals frightening truths about her family.

Orion is a time walker—a protector of the human race—and warrior against the Underworld King and his minions. The shadowy creatures seek the young woman who has the blood of the gods running through her veins. Orion senses something mysterious—and wrong—in Celeste’s blood.

Time Walker law dictates no interaction with humans, but Orion can’t stay away. Celeste has the uncanny ability to draw demons and time walkers, alike. To protect her, Orion must keep her hidden from the Underworld and his own people. Should the gods discover her secret, they will destroy her, and he won’t let that happen.

Excerpt: “My blood?” Celeste squeaked.

“It’s what draws them to you.” They approached a house on vast private land. He grabbed her arm. “Wait.”

Orion released the cinch on his powerful senses. When certain of no immediate danger he said, “Let’s get inside.”

“What do you mean my blood draws them?”

He heard Celeste’s heartbeat quicken, smelled the sweat beading on her skin.

A sharp knock had the door opening to a startled elderly man. Orion quickly drew a sword.
Rushing to the man’s side Celeste cried, “No! Rafael is family to me.”

Orion sheathed his weapon, turned, and latched the door. To the gentleman he said, “Go through and check the entire place to make sure all the windows and doors are secured.”

“Please do as he asks, Rafael.”

Rafael frowned, but left to carry out the duties.

“This way,” she said and led him to a quiet room. “Please be seated.” She settled herself on a padded chair, hands fidgeting in her lap. “So tell me about these soldiers.”

This human knew more than she should. The go’ras—mind swipe—erased memories or at least that was its function. Yet it had not worked on her. “You never explained why you were aboard a pirate vessel dressed as a boy.”

“’Tis business of my own.”

Evasion and more nervousness. His long legs carried him around the room as he examined the fine wooden furniture, the elaborate paisley curtains, and fingered petals of flowers flowing from a vase on the table. One hand held a sculpted dagger with precise balance, and a specially crafted blade. He tossed it in the air catching the handle every time.

In French, he said, “I hear a French accent when you speak. Is that where you were raised?”

She rose. “Why do you expect answers and yet give none yourself?”

“It may be important.” He strode to her, stopping with only inches separating them. The dagger flipped in the air. The heat from her body seeped through the silk fabric of his shirt. Her blood seduced him in ways he’d never experienced.

Flip. Flip.

“Must you continue tossing that knife? It unnerves me,” she said.

“Your scent is unusual.” He reached up and released the comb tangled in her hair. The long curly tresses fell to delicate shoulders. He grabbed a handful and brought it to his nose. It was not human hair. A wig? Curious.

Breathlessly, she said, “What are you doing?”

He dropped the hair and with the same hand caressed her cheek. “Trying to discern what makes you so alluring.” He leaned forward and brushed the side of her neck with his nose and lips. A gut-wrenching need roared to life, encouraging him to rid their bodies of barriers and delve into the forbidden.

“I do not understand.”

Frowning, he said, “Neither do I.” He pulled back, needing the distance to think clearly.
This was a damnably odd situation. He flipped the dagger end over end. She was a direct descendant of Lord Sin, the Moon God. The blood scent was strong and it flowed with mysticism and magick.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all.  Okay, the answer was never me, but a girl can dream, can't she?  I grew up with fairytales and happy ever after, so it stands to reason that when I write, I make sure my characters have their happy ending.  It may not always be what you'd expect, but it works for them.

I write romance, no doubt about it.  I can't imagine writing anything else.  I'm a hopeless romantic, or a hopeful one.  Either way, readers get the hope.

My books delve into the paranormal romance, romantic suspense, time travel, gypsies, tramps, and thieves.  Oh sorry, I went off into my music zone for a minute.  I have fantasy, mythology, and I try to make it all relate to the everyday.

Thanks for your interest.  Happy Reading!!!!

10 Life Lessons I Learned from Novel Writing

I’ve been writing novels for over two decades, and I’m constantly adding to my arsenal of craft, marketing and promotion, social media, branding, and living skills.

This post shares what I’ve learned over the years with a bonus message.

1.  Trusting God is essential to a joy-filled life
Without God, we have nothing to anchor our personal, mental, spiritual, and professional life. We tend to gravitate to other means of satisfying the God-hole instead of allowing Him to take His proper place.

2.  Strive to be the best and do it for God
We have instructions in Scripture - Colossians - to do everything as though working for the Lord. That says it all.

3.  Life is filled with edits and rewrites
We make mistakes and face the consequences. The goal is to learn from them. We can’t rewrite the past, but we can rewrite the choices we make in the future.

4.  Choose to love the unloveable
We’ve all met people who infuriated us by their actions or what they believe as contrary to our ethics and morals. Love unconditionally those who despise or disagree with us. Choosing to love does not mean we accept their behavior, but we will do all we can to help them have quality of life.

5.  Change is essential to character growth
A refusal to look at new technology, ideas, people skills, spiritual thoughts, relationships, etc is a stubborn approach to life. When we explore and change our attitudes for the betterment of a Christian worldview, we experience character growth.

6.  Education is a life-long pursuit
Our education began the moment we entered the world. We used sensory perception to view and evaluate the world long before we entered school. The learning process is a 24 hour endeavor that occurs when we are asleep or awake. Our minds need stimulation to live and process the world around us. We choose to continue our education until we breathe our last. Read. Listen. Pray.

7.  Choose to be informed and know what is going on in the world
We are not ostriches. Keeping our head in the ground to avoid what is happening in our communities, state, city, and world doesn’t make tragedies or inappropriate events go away. We live in this world, and whether we have a writing career or something else, we have a responsibility to contribute to the affairs of our earth.

8.  Mentor those who desperately need our expertise
Pay it forward is a way for us to take what we’ve learned or a kindness and pass it on to someone else. It’s in the giving, we are blessed. The recipient is fortunate and can progress easier in his/her life. A cool swap!

9.  Understand our purpose in life is not to please everyone
Sometimes it takes us years to understand not everyone likes us or ever will. Whenever we take a stand for right, others will oppose, even despise us. God has purposed us to various tasks, and when we follow Him, we will create opposition.

10.  Be thankful for friendships that ask for nothing in return
We all have sister-friends and brother-friends who aren’t manipulative or demand something in return for their relationship with us. I treasure these people and enjoy giving my best to our times together. These special people are a buffer when others can be challenging.

11.  Bonus - We have a glorious future ahead of us in eternity.
For those who haven’t given their life to Christ. Don’t hesitate to embrace a future with Him.

What lessons have you learned in life that you can share?

Wow...wonderful life lessons, DiAnn! One I've learned is God's timing is perfect and He loves to surprise you from 'behind the scenes.'

#SaturdaySpotlight is on Linda Rondeau & It Really is a Wonderful Life!

Good Morning Friends and Welcome to the first Saturday Spotlight of November!

The holidays are barreling down upon us. I'm hoping to have Tempered Dreams in audio by Black Friday. Keep watching for updates on that.

Meanwhile, please welcome my friend and fellow author, Linda Rondeau back to our blog. It's been a while, but she's been in our spotlight a couple of times before, and today she gives us a peek into her newest release, It Really is a Wonderful Life.

If that don't beat all....Linda's title fits right in with my Wednesday Words with Friends post LOL! Take it away, Linda....

Midville newcomer and Iraq War widow, Dorie Fitzgerald, despises the frigid Adirondack wasteland that has now become her home. After twenty failed job interviews, she questions the wisdom of moving to be near her parents. Desperate to belong, she joins the local Community Theater, in production for It’s a Wonderful Life.

Jamey Sullivan has put his professional life on hold in order to run the family business and to help his ailing father. He signs on for Midville’s production of It’s a Wonderful Life, although he hopes to receive a Broadway casting call any day now.

When these two meet, they are instantly attracted to one another. However, ambition, demanding children, and a romantic rival threaten to squash their growing love for one another. Each must discover that the best things in life are found where your heart resides.

It Really is a Wonderful Life is set in the beautiful Adirondack mountains, a perfect backdrop for a Christmas romance.

Excerpt: Dorie threw the letter and shrugged as it landed on top of the leftover peanut butter sandwiches. Maybe she should finish reading the letter, just in case she’d misunderstood the opening paragraph. She picked up the memo again and flicked off the residue along its edges, skimming the next few lines. When done, she subdued the urge to scream. The kids were asleep—finally.

As she read, she mouthed the words with clenched jaws. “Thank you for your interest in Bargains Galore. I am sorry to inform you that the position for which you applied has been filled. Blah, Blah, Blah. Sincerely James Paul Sullivan.”

Regardless of the perfumed words, they still stung.

“What is it with this town?” She ripped the rejection into pieces and tossed it into the trash. “I can’t even get a job at the local dollar store. Somebody, somewhere, must need someone with a business degree.”

Focus on the positives, Dorie. Mom’s voice echoed in her memory. She’d spent a great night with the children—her favorite people. A read-a-thon and Fern Gully and bedtimes with no rebuttals from Josh or squalls from Emma … all huge positives.

When the kids went to sleep, however, the night resembled a desert crossing—interminably long and arid. She settled into the recliner—Devon’s chair—and flipped through the television channels. Nothing of interest. Just news, reruns, or cartoons.

She clicked off the television and picked up the newspaper. With a discordant sigh, she skipped over the first seven pages and turned to the classifieds. Scanning the five employment ads, she screeched an entire sonnet of Midville condemnations, then threw the paper at the wall.

Now her tirades beamed toward her late husband. “Devon, you had no right to get yourself killed fighting a war nobody cares about anymore. How do you expect me to raise these kids on my own when I can’t even get a job?”

Boomer’s bark brought her back from the edge of uncontrolled rage, a precipice she teetered on all too often these days. He nudged the crumpled newsprint in her direction. Some people believed Irish setters could read minds. But last she knew, they couldn’t read newspapers. Maybe he sensed something there—something good.

A breeze from the open window stirred its pages.

She bent over to pick it up. A jelly smudge brought attention to the announcement, Midville Players casting call. Who would have thought a puny town like Midville would have a drama group?

Curiosity numbed her anger. “Midville Players will hold auditions for their upcoming Christmas production of It’s a Wonderful Life—”

Did she dare? She’d played an angel in a Christmas pageant once. That was a lot of fun, and her teacher said she was the best angel. This would be different, though. Still, what was the worst that could happen?

You’d look like a fool and find new depths of rejection.

Discretion warned her to avoid any more opportunities for failure.

“Now don’t let your mind go there, Dorie,” she said aloud. Talking to herself was becoming a bad habit. Then again, who else did she have to talk to besides Boomer?

He barked as if to say he’d heard her.

She gazed at the article again. Why not go for it? Devon had always encouraged her to try new things. Besides, didn’t Daddy say the best way to find a job was to network? Since moving to Midville four months ago, her only networking had been with her parents’ retired church friends. Time to find a circle of friends closer to her age.

She picked up her cell and called her lifeline. “Mom, will you watch the kids for me tomorrow night?”

It Really IS a Wonderful Life is inspired by the author’s true experiences in a small town Community Theater. During her twenty years as an actor, producer, and director, the author met and married her best friend in life. The couple now reside in Hagerstown, Maryland, where they are actively involved with their local church ministries and spend time with their children and grandchildren. Most of Rondeau’s works reflect the beauty and friendliness of the northern Adirondack Region, where this book is set. Readers may connect with the author through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Goodreads. Follow the authors blog, Snark and Sensibility, on her website www.lindarondeau.com and signup for the author’s newsletters.
