We've been experiencing heavy rains and flooding again in Louisiana. Most of it farther East/SE from where I am and I ask that you join me in praying for those families affected by this ridiculous weather.
I can promise you, I am fed up with the rain!
I know many are begging for it and I sure wish God would send it their way and leave us alone for a few weeks.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I featured a young author on Saturday Spotlight and today I'd like to share with you something I, as an author, mentor and founder of a writer's group treasure: Young Writers
Each year, Bayou Writers Group hosts a "Young Writers" contest for middle/high school students in a 5 parish vicinity. The winners get cash prizes, entry to our conference, as well as publication in BWG's anthology and the Librarian from the winning school gets cash for their library.
This year I'd like to honor the winners right here on my blog.....
Poetry
First “Never” by Sydney Manuel 11th grade Sam Houston High School Calcasieu Parish
Second “The Important L Words” Jasmine Hallmark 8th grade South Beauregard High School Beauregard Parish
Third “Stars Align” Garrett Doucet 11th grade Lake Arthur High School Jeff Davis Parish
Prose
First “Evergreen" Kate Cradeur 10th grade Sulphur High School Calcasieu Parish
Second “Script” Kate Cradeur 10th grade Sulphur High School Calcasieu Parish
Third “I’m Not Crazy” Rondaja Rushing 8th grade F.K. White Middle School Calcasieu Parish
"When
I get to tell the kids they placed in the contest I get as excited as if I were
the winner!" Says contest coordinator, Beth Savoie.
Hope you enjoyed today's post and, like me, Beth and many we know, treasure the young writers in your life!
Hope to see you again weekly for Tuesday Treasures, Thursday Thoughts and Saturday Spotlight.
Until next time, take care and God Bless.
