Saturday Spotlight - Amber Leigh Williams

Hello Again and welcome to another edition of Saturday Spotlight!

Today's guest has graced us before so please welcome back, Amber Leigh Williams with her book, A Summer's Hope!

First, a little about Amber.....Amber Leigh Williams is a member of RWA and secretary of the Gulf Coast Chapter of RWA. Her first novel Fox & Hound was published in February with Red Rose Publishing and received an "Outstanding Read" review with Simply Romance. She enjoys being a stay-at-home writer mostly because she loves spending as much time as possible with the three Labradors she shares with her husband, Jacob. She’s lived in the South all her life and currently resides in Alabama. Contact Amber at amber@amberleighwilliams.com. Visit Amber at http://www.amberleighwilliams.com/.

Blurb: Briar has spent half her life upholding the family business. As another summer rolls around, it looks like her luck is running dry and she’s dangerously close to losing the only thing that matters, Hanna’s Inn, her late mother’s bed and breakfast. Amidst deep financial difficulty, a shaky relationship with her estranged father, and a non-existent social life, hope is all she has left.

Enter Cole, a new guest at Hanna’s. Fresh from the turmoil of a bitter divorce and haunted by his mistakes, he’s desperate for escape. In a matter of weeks he captures the lonely innkeeper’s heart and together they discover a passion as hot as the southern sun and as unstoppable as the bay tide.

Do they dare trust this wellspring of hope they’ve found in each other’s arms?

Excerpt: He watched her for a moment, his eyes reflecting all the pain she felt. When he reached for her, his fingertips brushed over her hair.

She looked at him, surprise fluttering past the sadness. His eyes were so tender, so sympathetic. She wanted to dive right in and wallow in them.

She turned away and moved out of his reach. She couldn’t be weak. She refused to be. She’d mourned enough for what she’d lost all those years ago. It wasn’t about to happen again. Not when everything was at stake. “I thought you were going out with Adrian tonight.”

He dropped his hand. “She couldn’t find anyone to watch Kyle.”

She nodded shortly, staring at the horizon behind the western shore. “She’s been mistreated before. It ate at her for a long, long time but she came through in the end.” She turned her gaze back on him. “If you hurt her like he did, if Olivia doesn’t cut out your heart, I will. But pray she does it because I’ll use a spoon.”

Shocked, he stared at her for a long moment. Then he let out a breath. “We’re just friends.”

“You don’t have to lie—”

“I’m serious. She knows it and I know it. We were friends before and we are again now.”

“But you’ve been on two dates….”

“They weren’t dates. When we’re not talking about old times, all I ever talk about is…”

She waited as he hesitated then looked away. “What?” she asked curiously.

He slowly brought his eyes back to hers. Dragging in a bracing breath, he brushed a nervous hand through his hair. “All I ever talk about when I’m with her is you, Briar.”

Her eyes widened. “Me?”

“Yeah. You.” He looked away again. “I’m not interested in Adrian. The only one who intrigues me around here, who pulls me in, is you.”

Now she was really having trouble breathing. “Are you sure?”

He laughed at her stunned expression and took a step forward. “Pretty sure. I can’t get you out of my head. When I’m not with you, I’m thinking about you. When I’m sleeping, I’m dreaming about you. You’re always there. I can’t get you out.” He closed the distance between them, lifting a hand to her hair again. This time he brushed it through. “I don’t want to get you out.”

She gulped hard. “I-I can’t get a breath.”

Saturday Spotlight - Karen Cogen

It's that time again....time for another Saturday Spotlight!
This week's guest is Karen Cogan and her book, Love Never Lies.
Karen Cogan has a background in elementary education and has written children’s books, (one of which recently won the Moonbeam Award for best multicultural story), as well as many articles and stories. She has novels published in the writes inspirational, contemporary and historical romance genres. Karen lives in the Southwest, where she enjoys the opportunity for outdoor activities with her husband, children, and enough assorted pets to fill a small zoo.

Julie had trust issues from a previous romance. Therefore, when she met the new church counselor, romance was the last thing on her mind. Yet, something about him captivated her. He was gentle and fun loving, patient, and had a good sense of humor. And, he was a widower with a young daughter who tugged at Julie’s maternal instincts. He seemed to be a good father and a devoted believer. In spite of herself, Julie was falling in love. She never imagined that a crisis would arise and that all the traits she loved might drive a wedge between them. Could he be trusted or would he break her heart?

Excerpt: “Mr. Riley, I don’t think you’ve met my sister-in-law, Julie Price. Can you believe she teaches four-year-olds every Sunday even though she’s single and doesn’t have any kids of her own?”

Julie fought the urge to elbow Gina for her un-requested offering of information. Yet, as the counselor engulfed her hand in his warm grip, she had to fight the urge to like him.

She didn’t want to like him. She didn’t even want to talk to him. And yet, when he released her hand, she felt an odd twinge of disappointment.

Love Never Lies is available now from White Rose Publishing.

That's all folks....join me next week when Amber Leigh Williams returns!

Until later....take care, BE BLESSED and remember...when the going gets tough, the tough get on their knees.

The Dream is Dashed - Again

Well Friends a couple of weeks ago (two to be exact) I posted about the dream of a Triple Crown winner being resurrected with the magnificent run by Mind That Bird in the Kentucky Derby.

Saturday (16th) I sat in front of the television, eyes glued to the screen routing for this little horse to come from behind and take the second jewel in the Triple Crown races, The Preakness.

Alas, the dream is dashed again.

Although he ran a magnificent race again, he didn't get the break he needed early enough and missed out, coming in second place to Rachel Alexandra - the FIRST filly to win the Preakness in 75yrs!

Can't say I'm devestated, it's time a filly showed them old boys up LOL!

There's always next year........so Remember, no matter what life throws at you, dreams can come true!

Tempered Dreams is available now in ebook and print!

Until later......take care, be BLESSED and dream big cause all of heaven is dreaming with you!

Saturday Spotlight - Judith Gilbert

Hello Again Friends!

Hope you enjoyed the VBT on Wednesday - such a lovely book. Watch for my review in the near future.

For today's spotlight, friend and fellow author Judith Gilbert returns with her book Blood Hunt.
A Little about Judith in her own words.....I've always loved to read romance and longed to try my hand at writing various genres, but that practical side of me went for an accounting degree instead. After working in accounting for the government and later as a Sr. Financial Analyst for a major oil company in Houston, I walked away from the pressure cooker corporate world to chase my dream of writing. My husband and two children think I've lost my mind, taking on the stress and pressure of a publishing career that chews authors up every day, but I'm still chasing that dream of mine. Drop by either of my websites: http://www.authorjudithgilbert.com/ or http://www.authorjgilbert.com/ and wish me luck and don't forget to enter the two website contests I run each month!
BLOOD HUNT: THE LEGEND
How far would you go to keep a deadly secret? Would you let a little boy die?

Nurse Brianna Eaton’s world turns upside down when EMTs bring her best friend and her six-year-old son to St. Francis. Bri’s blood is the only hope he has. If she saves him, she can no longer hide what she is—part vampire, part witch. Forces will come against her; it’s only a matter of time. Not even the fierce vampire protector her father assigns can stop the fulfillment of The Legend.

EXCERPT: This is The Legend, written by witches as a dire warning to any witch who would break their laws.

The Legend
Never underestimate the seductive power of vampires.
Cursed be the witch who defiles herself with he who will not die.
Woe to the child of the undead, conceived by witchcraft,
for inside this unholy beauty runs a river of tainted blood.
The undead who drink of her overcome the sun.
Look for the child whose strength has no boundaries,
heed our dire warning before it is too late.
Destroy this child of darkness.
Once it comes to full power, all will be lost.
Nothing can fill its insatiable appetite.

Behold the blood-beast who will not die!
BLOOD HUNT: THE LEGEND, A VAMPIRE/WITCH PARANORMAL is available in Ebook and print!
Ooohhh chilling!
Hope you enjoyed this week's spotlight, watch these next couple of Wednesday's when I post about my brand new grandbaby!
And of course, check back every Saturday for another Spotlight.
Until later....take care, be BLESSED and Testify!

VBT - Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today

Hello Friends,

Today I have a very special guest with a very special book which is on virtual tour from Kathy Carlton Willis Communications.

Award-winning author Kathi Macias has written almost 30 books, including Beyond Me, How Can I Run a Tight Ship When I'm Surrounded by Loose Cannons?, the best-selling devotional A Moment a Day, and the popular "Matthews" mystery novels. She has written commentary for Thomas Nelson's Spirit-Filled Life Bible (Student Edition) and was part of the devotional writing team for Zondervan's New Women's Devotional Bible. She has ghostwritten for several prominent individuals including Josh McDowell. Kathi has won many awards, including the Angel Award from Excellence in Media, fiction awards from the San Diego Christian Writers Guild, and the grand prize in an international writing contest. A mother and grandmother, Kathi and her husband, Al, call California home.

About Mothers of the Bible: (Homeland, CA) - If you've ever wished for a real live interview from an experienced mother found in God's Word, you'll be thrilled with the message of Kathi Macias' new book, Mothers of the Bible Speak to Mothers of Today. Thankfully the trials, heartaches and transitions mothers face are not new to this generation. Traveling back in time with Eve, Hannah, Sarah, Mary and others, readers will recognize the common struggles that still plague our world today.

This hardback gift book gently calls women to study the lives of biblical moms who were challenged with their own set of circumstances. From fear to insecurities, heartbreak to disappointments -- Kathi's words capture the heart of every woman with hope and encouragement to become the mother God wants them to be. After studying these fifteen biblical mothers, readers will have a solid example of biblical parenting. At the end of each chapter, mothers will find a special place for prayer and application.

A Note from the Author: As a wife, mother, grandmother--and yes, even a great-grandmother to two-year-old Isaiah--you'd think I'd have this "mom" thing wired by now, wouldn't you? Surprise! We never get too old to learn, and what I learned in my study of Mothers of the Bible has enriched nearly every area and relationship of my life. God loves mothers. We were His idea, after all! And His purpose for our lives as mothers unfolds in beauty and meaning as we listen to the words of the mothers of the Bible....

Excerpt

I can think of no more awesome an experience than the birth of my first child. At the young and naïve age of eighteen, it was the most joyous, as well as the most terrifying thing that had ever happened to me. It was as if I were experiencing love for the very first time as I gazed at that precious little life that had been entrusted to me by God. And I thought, What in the world do I do now? How do I care for him? How do I make sure I'm doing everything right? What if--God forbid--I do something wrong?

Now, two more sons, nine grandchildren, and nearly four decades later, I smile at the memory, knowing those babies weren't quite as fragile as I'd once imagined. But I can't help but wonder how much more challenging and overwhelming motherhood must have been for Eve, who was not only the first woman but also the first mother. What can women today learn about mothering from studying the life of this exiled Garden dweller who had no role model to imitate, no how-to-be-a-good-mom books to read? Quite a bit, I believe. Let's take a look.

Eve, whose name means "life giver," was the only woman ever to become a mother without first having had a mother of her own. In fact, not only did Eve not have a mother, she also had no sisters, aunts, grandmothers, or girlfriends to turn to for advice. In short, she had no role models and no one with whom to compare notes.

She had Adam, of course, who, like her, had been made in the image of God. She had the greatest assortment of pets anyone could ever imagine. And, of course, she had her relationship with God. But as we know from the creation account in Genesis, all of Eve's relationships changed because of sin.

How alone she must have felt once those relationships were no longer perfect. And how frightened and overwhelmed she must have been when her two oldest sons, Cain and Abel, were born, thrusting her into an entirely new realm of responsibility. I am quite sure that more than once throughout the ensuing years she heard God's words echoing in her mind: "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children" (Genesis 3:16). By the time Eve's children were grown and she had experienced the horror of her oldest son murdering his younger brother, she must have realized that the truth of God's words tying together pain and motherhood didn't stop at childbirth. The same is true for mothers today, as we will see as we look at Eve's life...as well as the lives of other mothers of the Bible, who will speak to us from centuries past.

What a lovely book!

Hope you've enjoyed this special guest. Stay tuned for more guests in the future and be sure and stop by for my Saturday Spotlight where I host a different author every week!

Until later.....BE BLESSED!

Blurb: The last thing Emily Jordan needs in her life is a man, and certainly not one who uses his fists in his work. Her father hit her mother, and Emily’s already made the mistake of marrying a man who seemed to be a dream come true, but proved to be no better. An emergency room doctor and volunteer at a women’s shelter, she sees more than enough of the results of violence in the world, and has no use for anybody who contributes to it.

When she treats Eric Cameron in her ER after a bar brawl, her opinions of men in general seem to be confirmed. It isn’t until she meets Eric outside her eight-year-old son’s school after Eric gives a talk against using drugs and alcohol, that Emily learns he’s a hockey player, and her son’s newest idol. Robbie has been begging her to let him play hockey for months, and has now enlisted his new friend Eric, captain of the struggling Minneapolis Saints, to help him convince Emily to let him play.

Eric Cameron is more than willing to be Robbie’s ally. He’s never met a woman who intrigued him so much. Emily Jordan has it all…brains and beauty, a home of her own, a career she excels at, a son who adores her, and loving friends and family to help her bring it all together in a way Eric has longed for ever since he was a kid living over the ramshackle bar his mom ran when his dad ran out on them. He realized early on that hockey was going to be his only way out of spending his life busting up barfights.

Still, Eric was raised to respect and protect women, and this feisty, independent woman who wants nothing to do with him—and needs nothing from him--totally confounds him. The memory of her healing hands that first night drives him to find the key to Emily’s heart, because he knows that once he wins it, he will have everything he’s ever wanted in life. But for him to succeed would mean that Emily would have to give up everything she has—her home, her career, her independence--and subject her life to the whims of the NHL….for a hockey player’s life is anything but settled.

Will Eric be able to win her heart despite her opposition to the only life he’s ever known? Or when the season ends will he move on again--alone?

Excerpt

A shiver snaked its way down her spine. The temperature in the rink was frigid. If she didn’t want to turn into an ice statue, she’d have to get moving. The song on the radio ended. A more familiar tune wafted on the air, making her feel less out of sorts. “I see. Well, maybe we should have invited Melissa along today. I could use a lesson or two.”

“Then I’m the man you’re looking for,” an amused masculine voice said from behind her. “Skating lessons are my specialty.”

Oh no. Not him again. Not now. Am I being punished for something specific, Lord, or are you just playing with me for the fun of it?

“Thanks for calling, Sport. I see what you mean. We’ve got a real rookie on our hands. White knuckles and all.”

Emily whipped her head around. “Robbie called you?”

Eric studied her face before answering, as if gauging her mood. “I gave him my number when we were at Paisan’s. Told him to keep in touch.”

Robbie had had the man’s phone number all this time and not said a word? Emily wanted to cry. She no longer knew her son at all.

Eric misunderstood her upset. “Hey, it’s not so bad. Just give me your hands and—”

She yanked them out of his reach, not caring if she fell. “No! Don’t you understand? Either of you? I don’t want to skate with you. I don’t want to have anything to do with you.”

The flash of hurt in his eyes made her look away, only to find a matching hurt in Robbie’s face. Emily felt ashamed of herself, and embarrassed for all of them. What was it about this man that brought out the worst in her?

“Just once, Emily,” Eric said quietly. “Just once around the rink. If you don’t like it, we can stop. And if you do, as soon as you’re able to skate alone, I’ll leave you to it. It shouldn’t take long. Fair enough?”

Still too embarrassed to meet his eyes, she looked at his chest. He wore a black turtleneck beneath an open hip-length parka, and looked as big and tall as a mountain. Nobody, but nobody was going to skate over him. The thought was reassuring.

She lifted her head, and met his eyes beneath the brim of his black baseball cap. He hadn’t shaved in at least a day or two, and looked a little scruffy, but she understood he was trying not to be recognized again. Suddenly she appreciated his making the trip out here, risking the exposure, to help her out.

“All right. And I’m sorry for...for overreacting. I’m nervous about...” she nodded in the direction of the speeding skaters. “...all of this.”

Eric’s expression gentled in understanding as he held out his hands. “Don’t be. You can handle anything.”

With a dry, disbelieving look, she laid her hands in his. He squeezed them reassuringly and a comforting warmth seeped into her limbs.

“That’s it, Mom. You’ll be all right now. Eric won’t let you fall.”

“He’s got that right,” Eric said, his dark brown eyes not leaving hers.

Emily suddenly wished she was tall, blonde, graceful and on the other side of thirty, like Miranda Manzelrod. Or at least that she’d put on makeup and worn something other than her oldest jeans and a washed out green sweater beneath an equally worn parka. But she’d planned on falling a lot, so...

Self-consciously she looked down at her scuffed rental skates. “What do I do first?”

Eric’s hand slid up to encircle her wrists beneath her parka sleeves. “Just relax and let me lead the way, okay?”

She took a deep breath to calm her sudden attack of butterflies. His skin was so warm against hers, his touch so sure and self-confident. “I’ll try.”

Eric told Robbie to stay close to the edge of the rink, and started skating backward, gently pulling Emily with him. She let him tow her along, watching her feet slide rigidly across the ice, feeling like a barge behind a tugboat. Whenever she faltered, Eric’s fingers tightened on her wrists, setting off little fires along her nerve endings. She didn’t pull away, though. She couldn’t afford to without falling flat on her face.

Instead she concentrated on his murmured instructions. With words alone he coaxed the stiffness from her muscles. She’d begun to think she had a handle on this skating business, when Eric eased them to a stop.

She looked up at him in surprise. “What?”

“We’ve finished our lap.”

Already? She looked around and saw they were indeed at their point of departure. Robbie was practicing figure eights in the area at the end of the rink set aside for beginners and small children, safely out of the flow of traffic.

“Want to give it another shot?”

She met the hopeful look in his eyes and couldn’t help but wonder if he was talking about more than skating. “If you don’t mind moving at a snail’s pace,” she said quietly.

His eyes darkened, and then he smiled, a slow, soft smile that made her feel deliciously special. “For you, anything.”

Before she knew it, they were moving again. Around and around they coasted, Eric skating backwards, Emily feeling more secure with each lap. It seemed her earlier assumption had been on target. Eric’s size was a major deterrent to those who rode roughshod over the less skilled. Even when he eased her into the mainstream of traffic no one came near them. As skaters sped by on either side of them, she looked up at him and grinned.

“I think I’ve got it!” She hit a rut in the ice and stumbled. Without missing a beat, Eric caught her. Before she could blink, he’d flipped her around so that both of them were facing forward. “What are you—?”

“Relax. I won’t hurt you. Now just follow my lead. One step at a time.”

He nudged her forward, right arm around her waist, left hand holding hers. Emily had no choice but to relax or be run over. Forcing herself to ignore the feeling of being surrounded by him, she concentrated on his steady, “Left, right, left, right.”

Soon they were moving in tandem to the music of Faith Hill. Emily felt a chill on her back as Eric gently released her.

She started skating alone without realizing it.

“You’re doing it, Mom! You’re skating!” Robbie shouted in glee as she glided past the practice area.

She looked at him over her shoulder, and tripped. The next thing she knew, Eric and his magnificent reflexes had scooped her into his arms and was skating over to where Robbie waited, near to bursting with excitement. Wrapping an arm around Eric’s parka-padded shoulders, Emily laughed in relief...and pure giddiness. Being swept off her feet by the man was heady stuff indeed.

“Not too shabby for a first-timer,” Eric said with a grin, and set her down next to Robbie.

Damn, but she looked good, he thought, giving Emily’s shoulders a light hug before he released her. Felt good, too. She smiled up at him, and the unexpected warmth of it nearly knocked him flat. With her dancing green eyes and silky auburn hair swept up in a loose topknot instead of her usual no-nonsense bun, she looked relaxed, approachable. Kissable.

He cleared his throat and tried to clear his mind. The idea of kissing Emily Jordan was a little too much to handle right now. “Now we need to work on a few technical points, and you’ll be all set.”

For the next ten minutes he drilled her on stops and starts. He loved how her little pink tongue curled out over her upper lip when she concentrated. He also couldn’t decide which he enjoyed more, watching her skate away from him, catching tantalizing glimpses of the bottom half of her sweetly curved backside beneath her hip-length parka, or watching her return. Either way, her balance and coordination were exceptional.

Finally he pronounced her ready to skate solo, and with a determinedly casual arm around her shoulders, turned her toward the flow of circling skaters. “Now get out there and show us your stuff,” he ordered, and dropped his hand to the small of her back to nudge her forward.

“Oh, no. I couldn’t.” She looked up at him over her shoulder, her green eyes wide with trepidation. A boisterous group of skaters swept by and she backed up, her shoulders bumping his chest. A thrill shot straight to Eric’s heart. Whether she realized it or not, Emily Jordan was warming up to him.

“You just did,” he pointed out softly.

Once Again the Dream is Resurrected

Hello Friends!

This post will be short and sweet for several reasons, the main one is I'm clueless on what to blog about LOL!

So much is going on in my life right now it would take a month of posts just to keep you informed. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to write them all.

Saturday while you were enjoying the spotlight with Wendy, I was out dragging the roads...first the monthly Bayou Writers Group meeting, then my daughter's baby shower (more on that later), then rushing home to watch the Kentucky Derby.

I must say, with the amazing run of Mind That Bird, the dream for a Triple Crown winner has been resurrected!

In a rag to riches story we all love, this 50-to-1 longshot that was purchased for less than $10K (unheard of in Thoroughbreds) has won the hearts of horse racing fans all over America!

Will he fulfill our dreams of winning the Triple Crown?

We'll know more after the Belmont Stakes in a couple of weeks!

I'll be sure and keep you posted.

Join me this Saturday when Liana Laverentz returns to the Spotlight.

Hope to see you then!

Saturday Spotlight - Wendy Davy!

Hello Friends,
Please welcome back friend & fellow White Rose author, Wendy Davy and her book Drake's Retreat.

You may remember that Wendy has been hooked on reading romance novels ever since she picked up the first one over twenty years ago. That's also when her imagination started to roll and it hasn't stopped since. When she finally realized that God put the desire to write into her heart, she knew her dreams of becoming an author could turn into a reality.

Wendy is a member of the Romance Writers of America and continue to be an avid reader. When not writing, she spends her energy chasing around her beautiful young children, enjoying her own real-life hero, and watching movies with friends.

Blurb: The Adventure Begins…In the Heart of the Wilderness.
Maggie Reynolds needs a place to hide. Drake’s Retreat is the perfect solution. Nestled deep in the backcountry of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Drake Strong’s couple’s retreat is the ideal location for Maggie to regain control of her shattered life. But, convincing the intimidating resort owner to allow her to attend the retreat, without a partner, is the first of many obstacles she must overcome in the heart of the wilderness.

Drake Strong’s responsibility to his guests includes keeping them safe from the dangers they may encounter at his retreat. When Maggie shows up alone and unprepared for his remote resort, his responsibility to her becomes much more personal than he had ever intended.

Excerpt:
"You'd better get settled and ready for supper," Drake's voice cut into her thoughts as he mysteriously appeared behind her. "It's getting close to five and Aunt Cammie always has the meal ready on time."

Maggie just about jumped out of her new boots and twisted around. "I didn't see you behind me."

"You should be more alert. I could have been a bear," he growled as he carried the crate of supplies past her.

"You are a bear, Mr. Strong," Maggie made sure she spoke loud and clear as she posted her hands on her hips.

Drake immediately stopped and dropped the crate to the ground. He stood tall and held his back rigid to her for a moment. When he turned to face her, he had a smile on his lips that didn't quite reach his eyes. He slowly stepped toward her and she had to make a conscious effort not to retreat.

"I should warn you, Maggie," he stepped within the realm of her personal space and continued, "As your host, I can make your stay here pleasurable. Or, I can make it a living nightmare. Which do you prefer?"

Maggie closed the gaping hole in her mouth to speak. "P-probably the former, Mr. Strong. I mean Drake. I apologize. My runaway mouth has gotten me into trouble more than once."

Drake's eyes lowered to her lips. "I don't doubt that for a minute." His eyes turned a shade darker as they made their way back to hers.

She moistened her dry lips. He watched.

Maggie fought hard to find her voice. "I've been a bit on edge lately. With all that's been happening…," Maggie trailed off. "Maybe we can start over."

"You're mistaken. There is no we," Drake said as he turned and picked up the crate. He walked away without a backward glance.
Oh boy...sounds like another great story from White Rose Publishing! My word but The Wild Rose Press and it's sister company White Rose Publishing is taking the industry by storm!
Hope you enjoyed this weeks edition of Saturday Spotlight. Hope to see you again next week.
